About The Fox & Hounds
The Fox & Hounds, a traditional country pub nestled in the conservation area of Barnston on the Wirral peninsular.
We stock a cracking range of local cask ales, lagers and ciders. Our most popular pint pulled is the locally brewed ‘Trappers Hat’ from Brimstage, just over a mile away. We have a great selection of over 60 malts and whiskies, together with a variety of gins, vodkas and rums. We also have a carefully selected wine list along with a choice of soft and hot drinks.
Our hearty homemade menu is served seven days a week along with our popular Sunday roasts. Wholesome pub classics make up much of our menu, with a number of seasonal and local specials for those looking for something a little different, and to finish an assortment of mouth-watering desserts.
We pride ourselves on our warm and friendly atmosphere creating a homely and relaxed pub where we hope you’ll make yourself at home. If there is anything that you would like to know about the pub, or have any special requests please just ask one of the team and we’ll do our very best to help.
Plenty to choose from on the menu - we each chose something different and all were judged delicious. So I can certainly recommend the Sea Bass, Fish & Chips, Fish Pie and the Shin of Beef and you should leave room for one of their excellent desserts. Good friendly service - we'll be back.
Delicious food, lovely conservatory and great service
Great service excellent choices of food and drink,we will be back
Not as friendly a pub as it used to be. Miss the old staff and familiar friendship. Food ok.
Consistently delicious food! The only thing is, you’re now so busy since the refurbishment that we can’t just drop in like we used to, we need to book in advance!
Excellent food, had a lovely evening with friends would definitely recommend
Had to wait a while at the bar for our table and were eventually re-seated at a different table after waiting half an hour (my idea). The roast was lovely tho and atmosphere was great. Very busy.
very pleasant atmosphere light and airy. Food very good indeed. service excellent. Very positive experience. Car park was very full at lunchtime!
We had a lovely lunch and were well looked after by your super staff. We will definitely be going there again and recommending to others.
Very enjoyable visit. Food was fresh and beautifully cooked. Staff attentive and quick to take orders. New decor and renovation work has really made this a great place to visit
Do not take the duck off the menu
Very good food and surroundings
Lovely meal, would come again very soon. Staff delightful
Service was rather slow and the room was cold. Had veggie option and it was tasty and imaginative, a real change from lasagna.
First time at 'New Fox' very impressed Food was as good as before Only complaint was had to wait too long for it but will be back
Lovely food & fabulous service .
First visit back after the refurbishment. Absolutely loved it. Staff were very friendly and attentive. There was a good choice on the menu, and of course we all enjoyed meal.
Hi We booked a table for 6pm. By 6.20pm our order still had not been taken so we hailed a waitress. At 7.15pm we had to ask when our food would be arriving. I appreciate it was a busy evening but your staff should have come over to speak with us to tell us of the delay on a regular basis not leave it for us to keep hailing down a waitress to find out where the food was. Saying that, the food was excellent and when served the waiter was very apologetic. We will be back but may be not on a Sunday evening.
The 7 of us had a great meal one of best Sunday lunches I have had in a long time...
I had roast chicken dinner l thought it was beautiful . Although l would make portion a little smaller . So stuffed could eat all dinner Roast potatoes so homebaked lovey !!!!
Welcome at the reception made us feel like we were an inconvenience even though we had booked a table it looked like we were not expected lots of muttering going on behind the scenes this happened on our previous visit too when we had booked over the telephone
Really disappointed with the attitude of the staff - Mardy ! Not interested in the customers and not apologetic when they made mistakes. Have put a review on trip advisor
First time visit since the refurb and I have to say we were very pleased. It is a lot brighter and more roomy than it was. The staff were excellent and the food was amazing. Best Sunday roast we've had out in a long time, We'll be back
On a Sunday I have the pleasure of taking my elderly parent's who might i say are both disabled out for luch. On arrival it was clear there were no disabled parking spaces..so it was a long wait for a parking space and really difficult to get both my parents out of the car. We were seated right away but unfortunately seated next to a large very rowdy table. They had clearly finish their old but we're drinking and getting louder we could not hear ourselves speak...we asked to be moved but it seemed you were fully booked. We eat and left as soon as possible. As we were returning to are car..at the end of the car park.. we over heard two more couples complaining about the said guests. I really think the situation could of been felt with but obviously they were spending a lot more money than just myself and elderly parents. I hope you do read your feedback and maybe more training with staff to have durability to deal with loud obnoxious customers.
Fish finger sandwich was a bit greasy. Prices quite high for a pub.
