About The Fox & Hounds
The Fox & Hounds, a traditional country pub nestled in the conservation area of Barnston on the Wirral peninsular.
We stock a cracking range of local cask ales, lagers and ciders. Our most popular pint pulled is the locally brewed ‘Trappers Hat’ from Brimstage, just over a mile away. We have a great selection of over 60 malts and whiskies, together with a variety of gins, vodkas and rums. We also have a carefully selected wine list along with a choice of soft and hot drinks.
Our hearty homemade menu is served seven days a week along with our popular Sunday roasts. Wholesome pub classics make up much of our menu, with a number of seasonal and local specials for those looking for something a little different, and to finish an assortment of mouth-watering desserts.
We pride ourselves on our warm and friendly atmosphere creating a homely and relaxed pub where we hope you’ll make yourself at home. If there is anything that you would like to know about the pub, or have any special requests please just ask one of the team and we’ll do our very best to help.
A very welcoming atmosphere. We arrived early and waited for our other guest to join us in the bar area. The lady who greeted us as we arrived clearly pointed out our table and invited us to sit down as soon as we were ready. The service and the food were second to none. We will definitely return soon. Ian and Jo Sharples Table booked for 12.12.2018
First time back after the refurbishment. Was my sons Christmas day as he is off to Antarctic this week. Even though it was very busy, the service and the food was brilliant. Well done to all. Will be back again very soon.
Food was very good except for sticky toffee pudding which was hard. Everything else was very nice and one of the best Christmas dinners I've had, roast potatoes were excellent. Service was a little slow but staff were friendly and helpful.
The dining room echoes also car park was too small whilst we understand it was a very busy time couldn’t park had to wait until someone left therefore we were late for our table .Food and service fine hopefully after Christmas things will settle down
Lovely pub restaurant. Excellent service. Great atmosphere, we will definitely return.
This was our first official visit since the re-opening. We have been patrons for many years. The roast beef dinner we had last evening was seriously the best we have ever had in a restaurant. The beef was cooked beautifully, we couldn’t fault a thing. The upgrade of the Fox n Hounds is amazing. Can’t wait for the summer in the lovely courtyard. Well done everyone, see you in 2 weeks for our Festive menu meal.
Restaurant and pub really nice, much improved, our booking was for 5pm it was not busy but we waited for over 30 minutes for our food to find that the chips were cold, their seemed to be a lot of staff on but unfortunately no one came to ask us if our meal was ok until clearing the plates away.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful food sticky toffee pudding with Rum ice cream was amazing. Very friendly staff , we will definitely be returning .
Fantastic food! Friendly staff. Lovely surroundings.
Thought the inprovements made to the pub are brilliant. Staff very friendly and warm atmosphere.
Excellent menu choices for different palates. Welcoming friendly staff. Good choice of wines by the glass and bottle.
Coq au Vin a little bit dry. More convenient if it were possible to swap mashed potatoes to chips or Rostie for chips etc. Otherwise pub looks lovely.
We had a wonderful meal at the newly refurbished Fox and Hounds. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meals they ordered, they were all so much better than most (if not all) pubs. The service was great, professional and friendly. The pub has been done up beautifully and we will definitely be back!
Long wait, food over all forty minutes, tepid when served. Chicken dried out, and beef over cooked. Was as if has been kept under heated lamp for too long. Waitress very friendly, and made the visit, but would not eat there again untill kitchen had there act in order.
The renovation of the Fox and Hounds is excellent and a place I will frequent regulary. Just some teething problems... some more knowledge of the menu is required by staff and meal not available on menu. But In general staff and service was very good. Thank you for a lovely evening.
I think the only reason the service was not up to scratch was the fact that you had only been open a few days and that it was extremely busy, we also appreciated the way our delay was handled and initiated by James. We both thought the food was excellent (even though my asparagus was missing!) for taste and presentation. My friend is a retired chef and hotel owner, she was very impressed. I am visiting again a couple if times before Christmas so please keep up the good work. Good luck.
The restaurant was not particularly busy, but the car park was full. I feel that the car parking may put some people off in the future, but I also appreciate that there is little that can be done due to lack of space to expand the car park, and that because of the location a car is needed , for customers and staff to get there.
We had to wait over 40 minutes between courses could have been avoided.....
Crazily busy due to very recently opened however staff were excellent and food was of an extremely high standard. Looking forward to returning very soon. Really lovely renovation still keeping original features.
We have always considered The Fox and Hounds our local and feel it has lost lots of its charm. The new restaurant area is a great improvement and the quality of food was lovely. However I was surprised that there was not a child roast option available and the additional charge for a Yorkshire pudding seemed unnessasary as everyone seemed to be ordering them, why could they not be part of the roast option as standard? The snug area has lost the character with the removal of some of the charming touch like trivial pursuit on each table and the tv on silent with weekend sports has on. It used to be a place you could call in at for a drink with its friendly homely feel.
Overall very good - highly recommend
Really like the new look "Fox" which was extremely busy yesterday lunch time. Food was excellent but the service needs some improvement. I had the excellent roast beef which wasn't piping hot when it arrived, but then after 5 minutes I had to ask for my veg which took another 5 minutes to arrive, they were really hot but roast beef etc by now lukewarm.
The Fox has been my local for many years and I was missing the place a lot and apprehensive about the changes taking place... Absolutely Wonderful felt like home looks amazing Team fabulous as always and The food and drink mouth wateringly gorgeous... lots of truly homemade dishes and very nice selection of Wines.. and of course Trappers Hat. Well Done Sooo glad your back.
Just reopened and the make over is fabulous - clean and modern but not lost its old world charm in the bar and snug. Sea Bass was superb and great choice of wines.
