About The Fox & Hounds
The Fox & Hounds, a traditional country pub nestled in the conservation area of Barnston on the Wirral peninsular.
We stock a cracking range of local cask ales, lagers and ciders. Our most popular pint pulled is the locally brewed ‘Trappers Hat’ from Brimstage, just over a mile away. We have a great selection of over 60 malts and whiskies, together with a variety of gins, vodkas and rums. We also have a carefully selected wine list along with a choice of soft and hot drinks.
Our hearty homemade menu is served seven days a week along with our popular Sunday roasts. Wholesome pub classics make up much of our menu, with a number of seasonal and local specials for those looking for something a little different, and to finish an assortment of mouth-watering desserts.
We pride ourselves on our warm and friendly atmosphere creating a homely and relaxed pub where we hope you’ll make yourself at home. If there is anything that you would like to know about the pub, or have any special requests please just ask one of the team and we’ll do our very best to help.
Really nice we will 100% be returning
VERY WELL RECEIVED AT RECEPTION AND LOOKED AFTER EXCEPTIONALLY WELL BY OUR WAITRESS..THANK YOU FOR A LOVELY MEAL..
Relaxed atmosphere, just quieter than we have experienced in the past...to be expected! Great food, especially the pie.
Service was appalling, the bill was wrong been charged for too many drinks The staff were not wearing any face shields Will be a long time before I go back
Excellent food and service
Excellent service friendly and value for money
Delicious food and great service with comforting cv-19 controls in place. £3.50 for a pint of cola was the only reason for a less than perfect score.
great to be back to normal missed going the Fox these past months i had the meatballs and they were delicious same as the wifes Steak . Staff are very freindly and always helpful and attentive can have bit of freindly banter. Cant fault the place. if weve had any problems we point out to member of staff and its sorted straight away. We always look forward to going only one problem this week though The Chef would nt cut my spagetti up for me????? Cant understand it. Strange and Co should be and probably are proud of their staff at the Fox and Hounds. When i read comments on other sites i think they must of gone to another place. Kepp up the good work guys
Been here many times, always a fine pint!
We went on the first day of reopening & can only say that in our opinion they had it spot on, tables nicely spaced, clear signs for going in & out. Staff gave clear instructions. Meal was delicious, atmosphere was great. Huge well done to Mark & his team, we will see you soon!!
We went on the first day of opening after Covid lockdown So we do understand there was going to be some issues, however, the doors were left open causing a rather cool draught where we were sitting, we had to wait over 50 minutes for our meal and 15 minutes for our second round of drinks. The food was lovely and the new Covid associated rules seemed to work well.
The most perfect & best roast dinner anywhere, consistently excellent quality service every time we visit! If you want the best roast dinner anywhere on the Wirral then the Fox & Hounds in Barnston is the only choice! :)
There was a total of 8 of us and the food was absolutely superb. It was the first time we had been to eat there and we will certainly be back. Thank you to the chef!
Lovely but did find the portion of steak pie was too big
We had a lovely lunch great atmosphere service and food. We were a table of 15 which had booked the week before and my only comment would be how long we had to wait for our food - about 45 minutes although many other smaller tables were getting there food brought to their tables despite arriving after us. Maybe you could ask large groups to look at the menu and order in advance of arriving so the food could be made more promptly Otherwise it was all great.
Disappointed that we had to vacate our table. I booked via phone and wasn't informed of the 2 hour limit. The reservation card on the table stated the next reservation was 5.30 which was incorrect as the booking was 4.30.
Just love it here, wonderful food and great staff.
We had a lovely evening. Dinner was very good. We waited over half an hour for our food, but totally understand as the pub was very busy for a Friday evening. Will return again one day. I Asked on our booking for a quiet area, our our table was very nice just to the side of the bar.
Good vegan options, not an after thought like in some places, food really tasty and well presented.
Table booked for 5.30pm but it wasn't ready until 5.50 so we were stood in the bar until then. Then seated for another 20 mins before order taken. At 6.40 we asked how long food would be and were told that the order only went into the kitchen at 6.15 - slightly missing the point that we'd had to wait 45 mins after table was booked for until the order was placed. Happy to wait for freshly cooked food but not when you've also had to wait for a table which was booked in advance for a specific time.
roast belly pork was excellent.
Service and food excellent, would definitely recommend and will come again.
All round fantastic place to go for food and drink. The place is beautiful, our waitress was excellent. The food was to die for. Very delicious. I will definitely be going back very soon.
