Afternoon tea was a bit bland and not particularly exciting. Service was slow considering there wasn’t many in the restaurant.
Excellent afternoon tea set in a beautiful location and a relaxed atmosphere in the lounge. Great service.
I said to my husband that white linen and candles might enhance the atmosphere for night dining.
Very nice food
Fabulous food. Friendly service. A little expensive though.
Attractive surroundings. Dining room: Space between tables excellent. Easy to access tables and hold conversation without being overheard.
Excellent & efficient service. Most enjoyable occasion for a treat.
Excellent meal. Superb quality food and a fantastic wine. Topped off by wonderful service - in particular from the waiter in the orangery. Would definitely recommend and will be back. Thank you.
It was a beautiful setting and fantastic service. Hope to go again someday.
At first I was unsure about the small menu but the food was absolutely amazing, especially the crab bisque. The refurbishment has been done well, however, I think a few things need addressing. There was no real background music and when in a place that isn’t that buzzy I think that is needed as you sometimes feel you have to whisper. The staff were attentive and helpful but seemed quite robotic. I think it is really important to try and build rapport with customers as that’s what distinguishes restaurants apart. Whilst the food is just as good, if not better than the ivy restaurants the atmosphere and staff is why I would choose to dine there instead of foxhills. On a really petty side note, I think the staffs ties didn’t look great! The food for our dinner was incredible but I was really let down by breakfast the following day. I ordered eggs benedict and I was excited considering our meal the previous evening, however, the muffins were hard, sauce bland and the ham fatty. Breakfast is the last thing you have before you check out so I think it should be looked at! We will be back for dinner!
We were a Party of 10 and had stopped at the Hotel after Royal Ascot. It is an ideal venue, the circular table allocation was great in the historic part of the Dining Room with large windows and tall ceiling, lovely atmosphere. Staff were very attentive, food was not rushed but equally there were no long delays, it was cooked to order and the food quality was very good especially the Monkfish & the Cod, the only slight criticism was that the portion sizes were a little small but overall we had a great meal and would definitely eat here again, you would not be disappointed.
Thought the ambiance and food standard was excellent. More main course choices for vegetarians would improve this quality restaurant.
Over priced for the level of service. Too many sweets and very few sandwiches. Too over priced.
On arrival I asked for a menu and was told very bluntly that we could have afternoon tea, or cream tea, when I still asked for a menu as I wanted to look for a different drink to have, as I don't drink tea or coffee I was treated with disdain - I have never been treated like this in a restaurant that is supposed to be of the standard you are! I eventually received a single menu for the party of five and we ordered some prosecco to have as well as the cream tea, I was not offered any other drink rather than tea/coffee. I also looked at another table who had ordered the afternoon tea, it really is poor quality in comparison to the Ritz or other places, 4 tiny finger of bread and a few cakes, not what I would call a sumptuous afternoon tea.
The setting is beautiful and the food and tea selection was very good. They catered well for a nut allergy too. However the service did let the afternoon down. When the tea pots began to cool we would have liked some extra hot water although there were no staff to ask. After a while of waiting for our plates to be cleared we moved them our self to a separate table and it was at least half an hour before they were cleared from this table. I had to go up to the bar to ask for the bill and then another 20 minutes had gone before I again went in search of someone in the adjoining restaurant in order to pay.
Lovely celebration of my daughter’s birthday, excellent afternoon tea for a coeliac and a veggie - many thanks
Food was delicious especially the vegan option
Breast of Duck dish was very nice. Service attentive. Chosen drink - Bombay Gin - disappointing in its presentation.
A pleasant stay
Steak and triple cooked chips was nice.... not worth £35 The starter 'wild mushrooms' .... some mushrooms that were dry on a slice of French baguette (literally) ..... my partner ordered curried cauliflower (cant remember the exact name) it was the smallest bit of cauliflower ever not worth the £18 or whatever it was priced at. The pudding was insulting Truffles that were £10 ..... 4 chocolates on a plate...... the same chocolates that we got free with the room. We also ordered a rhubarb, white chocolate and custard tart. Well that looks like vomit on a plate ..... there was no 'tart' the only way I could describe it was a tin of ambrosia custard plonked on a plate .... some frozen rhubarb and then grated white chocolate. I was astounded at what I was presented with the waitress clearly saw my reaction. I was going to speak to someone to complain but my partner wouldn't let me cause he doesn't like to make a fuss and would be mortified if I did. However £135 later It felt like robbery ..... the middle priced bottle of rose was lovely the wall with the elephants was pretty but other then that it left me wishing we ate in the other restaurant nineteen cause we had lunch there and it was superb. We also were presented breakfast in this restaurant...... the cooked breakfast we saw if you were paying was £20 ..... it was awful eggs no flavour at all bacon undercooked .... just really bad if I'm honest the pastries in the buffet were nice ...... but the coffee wasnt proper coffee it was filtered ...... no to sound a snob cause I'm not but if your paying a lot of money I expect to get what I've paid for (not alot to ask) we also got presented at breakfast with 'sorry about the ants' ?!? What?! So yeah we had a rubbish breakfast with ants around our feet. We then went to nineteen to get a coffee and saw the same breakfast was there for £8 cheaper. Lovely hotel and facilities but this restaurant was shocking avoid and go to nineteen
Food choices quite limited, the room service menu and the menu on the door both looked great but the actual menu in the restaurant was too pretentious, so much so we avoided having a starter and chose the truffles for dessert. The service was quite slow and frustratingly the table next to us were served their mains before us, even when we had skipped starters and ordered before they were seated. When I asked if the outside menu on the door to the building was available the waitress looked at me like I had two heads, and said she could check if I wanted her to, which was obviously too much effort so didn't bother. The waitress who took our plates away didn't bring us our bill either so we left without signing anything. The food itself was good, I had the pork belly which was a little fatty, my partner had the lamb which was nicer so I would recommend choosing this option instead. Overall ok but nothing special and not worth the added service charge.
Food was beautiful- everything we ate was beautifully presented and delicious. Drinks selection was very good and really liked the sparkling English wine. Service was slow initially with drinks orders but great for the rest of the evening. Would love to come back in the future
The custard tart arrived deconstructed which was very strange and spoilt it
We really enjoyed our stay but I was disappointed with the food menu , it wasn’t clear what the dishes are and not much variety on the menu for instance a chicken dish would have been nice it was all about duck food and the steak was £35 which was pricey. Also our table was very wobbly and we asked for it if we can change and they said that all the tables they got but clearly there was empty tables. And when I booked reservation I asked for a nice table as it was my husband 40th this was ignored also as we were sited by the door which was cold and wobbly table. And this was disappointing as well . Other than the restaurant we enjoyed our stay.
Exceptional menu, wonderful front of house team and a hugely enjoyable evening - varied wine list and a great selection of cheese - can’t wait to return! A really inviting atmosphere and a lovely way to spend a Friday evening!
