Good evening, We had an afternoon tea this afternoon and I was disappointed. I had an international visitor and chose Foxhills because of the quality and freshness of the afternoon tea. I was disappointed that the tea was made very weak and had no flavour (earl grey) - seems to me that it has expired or was not fresh .. Plus the bread was stale. White and brown. I would like to give you this feedback in order to rectify and maintain your good quality, which is what keeps us coming back. Kind regards, Lisa
The food was excellent however my wine glass was empty far too often. Other than that, great!
I recently booked an afternoon tea for myself and 2 guests from USA. Booked online with ease, and wrote in the comments to make the visit special because one of the guests likely not to be able to visit the UK again. The service was great, attentive without hovering too much. We were seating right next to the fire place, chairs were comfy. My guest was presented with a special--welcome to the UK plate with some delicious chocolates, and also handed info on the club when she asked questions about it. Totally perfect afternoon---if the staff could have made the sun shine, they would have. Tea was hot, food was delicious. Well done! and thank you!
Unless the restaurant is full the atmosphere is very lacking. It's too bright and should be more of a 'fine dining' experience to work alongside the food. You should work on the lighting, music. ambience and also I really think you need table cloths in the evening to give the restaurant a more sumptuous high end feel. The food was excellent but the service was patchy. We ate on two nights - friday was quite awful - almost empty, everyone that was there was really casually dressed in flip flops etc and no atmosphere. Didn't get the wine list until after we'd ordered etc etc. Sat night was better as more people who looked like they'd made more effort were there. Still lots of empty tables though. Service and ambience was much better but if there'd been another restuarant choice closeby we would probably have cancelled and gone elsewhere particularly as the menu didn't differ from one night to the next. I wouldn't recommend a two night stay here - the food options are too limited. Bar service also not great. Either odd attitude from staff or lacking in experience. We were served drinks in the wrong kind of glasses, barman didn't know how to make a simple cocktail (which was on the list) and generally just felt a bit amateur. So much potential but feels like everything's a bit budget-controlled.. you need a stronger Maitre D' or front of house who can lead the team and train them to come up to standard.. £100 a head - should be a better experience. Chef is clearly very talented. He needs his support act upgraded.
We had a pre-paid reservation via a package and booked in at the dining rooms reception and showed our booking voucher to the receptionist who checked us off and asked a colleague to show us to our reserved table. We enjoyed the tea although I would say the quality of the bread used for the sandwiches was poor for the price paid. As we were leaving a waiter followed us to reception and asked if we were going to pay - we explained that it was part of the package to which he said he needed proof by way of the voucher, which obviously I retrieved from my bag. We did point out that we had not been asked for it by either the receptionist or the waiter who had shown us to our table and had marked us off his bookings sheet - it was rather an embarrassing end to a very lovely day at the spa and feel that communication had fallen short with the dining rooms booking system. I can honestly say as people were in the area booking in we actually felt like we were criminals who were trying to leave without paying. A word of apology would have been good but was not forthcoming from the waiter who stopped us.
I felt the room we had afternoon tea in lacked atmosphere and it wasn't very cosy apart from that service and food very good
A very comfortable couple of hours by the fire, it was a very successful time, and I would use the venue again.
Over all experience is great!! The staff who served us is very particular, very attentive and knowledgeable of the food and teas they have. Only thing is upon arrival, we had to approach the bar rather than being approached to and shown our table. The staff only pointed the table where we were reserved instead of coming to you and taking you to your table.. other than that, amazing experience.. will definitely come back!
We had a lovely time, we were a large party (table of 8 adults, a 3 year old and a 1year old). The staff were helpful and friendly and we were fortunate to have lots of space (our own room!) which was a godsend for having our young children with us! Also the staff paid attention to details on booking - remembering a birthday and a highchair which was very much appreciated. Thank you
Have only given 3 stars as restaurant was very quiet so not really an atmosphere to talk about and we had a 2o'clock sitting which I believe we were the last people to dine and with that in mind some of the choices were very low, for example there were only a few roast potatoes let and we asked for some more to come out but they didn't appear. The staff were otherwise very polite.
Our main course of Duck breast and mashed potato were served hardly warm, only the cabbage was hot. The decoration and lighting we felt were not in keeping with traditional manor house. It was all rather stark and lacked atmosphere.
An excellent cream tea, served efficiently to a large table of 11 ladies. Beautifully surroundings. Excellent staff.
Everything went great!
Food and service was excellent, but ambience seemed more like a cafe than a fine dining restaurant, especially when surrounded with quite noisy baby shower parties. Shame.
Environment is somewhat noisy. Food is top-notch--fresh and tasty! But value for money is poor. It's unbelievable that after having an appetizer, entree and side, I still felt very hungry to the point where I had to ask the server for a place to get snacks. She told me to go to the bar for nuts; which I did. I typically don't eat large portions and I found the portion sizes ridiculously small!
Food quite cold. Started clearing buffet before we had finished also.
Great, in terms of value, taste of food and service Vegan and gluten free catered for. Only thing i'd say is that the scones (vegan / gluten free) were very crumbly. Wouldn't have minded a better balance between savory and sweet. 4 cakes is too many.
We had a lovely time on Sunday September 29th having cream tea for my mother's birthday. The service and food we're excellent and I would definitely recommend it to others. The only problem I encountered was trying to book the tea in the previous week. Impossible to get through by phone (lots of automated options - none of which were what I wanted) until eventually I just rang all the different Foxhills numbers until I spoke to a human! No one replied to my email either. Otherwise, a great dining experience. Thank you.
Fantastic dinner and good service. The menu was different from the website so we were initially disappointed but our new choices were delicious. Staff were polite and efficient but maybe a little busy to give us their full attention. No complaints at all though. Would certainly recommend.
This could be a great venue.
My only complaint: why charge for bread? That is petty and penny pinching. Better to make a small price increase elsewhere if money is the problem. This is not usual practice for an upscale restaurant and it put us off. On the plus side the food is excellent.
A very tasty afternoon tea with excellent service
The dining rooms are too stark and echoey. Not enough soft furnishings to absorb sound. Sad that Foxhills haven’t kept a more traditional feel in keeping with the building.
