About The Forge
The ‘Old Smithy’ in Washington Village, is a 400 year old grade II listed building. The building has had a colourful past, formerly; a blacksmith’s forge, stables and even a pottery, it is famed locally for its connection to the capture of the highwayman Robert Hazlit who was arrested and subsequently hanged after being spotted having his horse shod here by the local blacksmith. Things are slightly different these days…
Now ‘the Forge’, the building has undergone a full restoration and has been transformed into an eclectic, vibrant eatery, serving the highest quality wholesome fresh food this side of the river. Accompanied by an extensive wine selection, locally distilled gins, real ales and great cocktails, the Forge is an excellent destination for those seeking fantastic quality food and drink, prepared by experienced talented chefs in an historic yet cosy setting.
Very attentive staff
Exellent food at a very reasonable price. We’ll be back again soon.
Service at the forge seemed to be quite slow but the food was very nice, one small point was that the chips, that came with the steak, appeared not to be freshly fried.... perhaps a bowl of mash would have been a better accompaniment Other than that small point..... it was a very enjoyable evening
Love it here. I love how cozy it is and the food is amazing. Great staff
Excellent food and service to match
Had a fab beautiful meal, a great find and can’t wait to return
We were eight celebrating a special occasion. Faultless, but enhanced by delicious food and excellent service.
First time to the Forge and can say we will be returning, so friendly and the food was great.
Lovely food in a lovely setting. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return
As always ...food was superb and so was service 😊
Another fabulous Sunday lunch, the wild foraged mushroom soup is Devine. Staff fabulous as always and nothing is too much trouble- looking forward to our next visit
Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch.
As always this restaurant does not fail to impress. Wonderful atmosphere and great service but the star of the show is the food - amazing.
We have visited many times and always had a great experience. The menu has lots of choice. the food is delicious and the staff are all extremely pleasant and efficient.
Good atmosphere and the food was lovely. The staff are friendly and helpful, but do make some errors. Our bill was over 20% out and needed to be corrected.
Three course Sunday lunch - chose a delicious foraged mushroom starter with roasted rosemary bread, succulent and ample pork loin main and sticky date pudding with ice cream for dessert. All a credit to the chef, and charmingly served by the polite and friendly waitress. Very good value too - can’t wait to get back!
Wonderful from the second we entered. Food amazing, service excellent, setting perfect. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and friendly staff. We will definitely be returning.
A stunning menu with each plate being utterly delicious. The service was excellent (as usual). We’ll definitely be back
We had a wonderful experience at The Forge. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, the service was very good and the food was delicious and sensibly priced. I have no doubt we will return.
There is a serious issue with timing. With only two lagre tables the wait between courses was toatallly unacceptable over an hour in one case. I blame the chef as he is basically in charge of deliveiring the meals, this really needsto be addressed. The food as alays was superb.
Delicious Sunday roast.
3rd visit and really live this place. The small plates are all lovely, and the tempura brocolli was amazing. The banana loaf dessert is right up there as one of the best desserts I have ever had. The only downside was the fish and chips. The chips were overdone and the fish resembled a captains birdseye fish. It had obviously been cooked and then kept warm whilst the other food was ready. I was expecting the fish to be bigger and more like one you would get in other restaurants. Maybe with the tempura batter. It didn’t spoil our visit and we would go again in a heartbeat.
Geogia and Ellie were superb
Another awesome dinner date at The Forge. The food was superb, the service was exceptional, and we will certainly be back again soon.
