About The Folly
The Folly restaurant occupies a unique riverside position in the heart of Oxford. Our restaurant provides simply served, excellently cooked dishes crafted from the freshest seasonal ingredients.
The restaurant's terrace floats on the waters of the River Thames as she runs gently under Folly Bridge. Inside we give a warm welcome throughout the year and offer relaxed drinks and dining from Sunday lunch to Saturday cocktails and everything in between.
Afternoon Tea is served weekends only from 12.00 - 16.30
really friendly staff and amazing food. my partner and i ce early and they still managed to get us a table. will definitely come again.
We visited on Saturday for a birthday treat and was extremely disappointed. Upon being seated in a window bay opposite the bar we noticed an unpleasant smell which can only be described as a dirty dishcloth smell (possibly our table had been wiped with one). We were offered a glass of Prosecco which was ok, followed by the afternoon tea - a plate of unfresh sandwiches (the bread had obviously been left out and the air got to it which made it dry and not soft), 4 scones which were extremely overcooked, resulting in them disintegrating when trying to put the jam on them, a 6 vert small cakes/pastries which were not particularly nice on the palate. We bought to a member of your staffs attention about the sandwiches and the scones, to be told that the sandwiches were fresh and the scones were perfectly cooked, however he did bring some more sandwiches which were better than the first lot, and also 2 more scones which again were of a poor standard. We didn’t stay very long, it was an awful experience and we are utterly shocked that the experience cost £54, it was certainly not worth this!! To make matters worse we drove a 2 hour round trip for this. I would like to also add that when we left not one member of staff spoke to us, apologised or asked why our visit was so short. I look forward to your feedback on this matter.
Everything is perfect
The venue is beautiful- probably the only restaurant in the centre of Oxford on the river. The lights and sitting in the window are magical. Service is great -attentive but not oppressive, no rush, and even though we were the only people left there was absolutely no sense that they wanted to close up. And of course the food was superb. Triple cooked chips the best ever !
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Folly for Valentine's weekend. The service was excellent as food arrived at a leisurely pace and the waiter were attentive as and when they were required. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was very relaxing with a nice view out onto the river Thames. The food was all well seasoned and tasted absolutely fantastic. The flavours in the carrot and coriander soup were blended fantastically. The belly pork had been rendered beautifully with well balanced flavours against the chorizo croquettes, mash potato and apple puree. The lemon and poppy seed sponge was so fresh and moist and perfectly balanced out the lime gin and tonic sorbet. The food is on the pricer side with the average main being nearly £20. However, it is still an experience you won't forget.
Thank you for making our anniversary meal so special. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was amazing! Thanks again, we will be back!
Impeccable service, beautiful room and context, and delicious food. Highly recommended, we will be back !
Fantastic service from all staff, food was incredible. We will definitely be back soon.
A really good restaurant. Staff are helpful and friendly. Food is great. Setting is lovely right on the river.
Had a lovely meal and would recommend
i don't have any comment to make. It's just a great restaurant.
Lovely setting. Light, airy space and good menu selection.
Fantastic night for our group dinner- excellent food and service. Thank you team!
Beautiful restaurant and excellent food
I took my boyfriend for a birthday dinner to the Folly. The food was excellent!! We had mussels and scallops for a starters. Both very fresh and tasty. For a main we had Beef for two, which was just amazing, and the portion was very big. The chocolate fondant for a dessert was a cherry on top! To sum up, excellent service, great food, highly recommend!
Lovely location, food and service.
Food and service were excellent, and the location on the river gives wonderful views.
Staff were very friendly, particularly Marius.
The food was well presented. The portion sizes varied with the most expensive dish we had looked the least impressive by way of presentation and size. That said all the food was thoroughly enjoyed with the goat cheese & beetroot tart leaving the guest wanting more! The staff were very helpful and attentive without being overbearing which is always nice. A very nice way to spend a Sunday lunchtime. We will be coming back
Delicious high quality food with attentive service. Relaxing atmosphere and very pretty decor
From the late booking to join for New Years Eve everything about The Folly was exceptional. Customer service and care at every stage, the welcome on arrival (little touches to make the place like a speakeasy). The food was outstanding, and they made light work of the problems faced by severe dietary Requirements. All in all, probably the best restaurant I have visited in Oxford and can thoroughly recommend to anyone
The atmosphere and setting were lovely and the food was really delicious. As vegans there wasn’t the widest choice (2 options per course) but it was perfectly cooked. As visitors we’d say generally Oxford needs more restaurants with more vegan options so there’s definitely a market for it for you to develop. The waiter (young Polish guy) was lovely and really made an effort to make sure we were looked after and had a good evening.
Staff were wonderful and the food was the same⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
