About The Folly
The Folly restaurant occupies a unique riverside position in the heart of Oxford. Our restaurant provides simply served, excellently cooked dishes crafted from the freshest seasonal ingredients.
The restaurant's terrace floats on the waters of the River Thames as she runs gently under Folly Bridge. Inside we give a warm welcome throughout the year and offer relaxed drinks and dining from Sunday lunch to Saturday cocktails and everything in between.
Afternoon Tea is served daily 11.00 - 15.30
The restaurant has a great location and decor but it seems it cannot handle the service on busy days. We got undercooked fish that almost got my child vomit. We never got any apology beyond a short "sorry" from the waiter. The replacement dish was put on the invoice as if nothing happened. The other dishes were fine and good but unfortunately the bad experience impacted our overall judgment. The service itself was spotty as we were serviced by three different people who were too busy to communicate with each other, and still when we wanted anything, there was nobody around to ask. Overall, it was pretty dreadful experience despite a wonderful weather, a nice setting and decor.
Set at the side of the river Thames, I can say that The Folly is a beautiful place in amazing surroundings; Also lovely food, nice atmosphere, helpful and kind staff.
Service a bit amatuerish maybe just under confidence? Had special Torbay fish but portion minute. Colleagues had beetroot salad but too much root and not very interesting. View great but there should be other reasons to visit. A so so experience!
Nice venue, staff and food.
It takes a lot of time until it was possible to order. But after this everything was fine and we enjoyed the evening very much. Good food. Nice to sit at the open windows in the evening by fine weather
Lovely afternoon tea in a beautiful setting and attentive and friendly staff
Great location brilliant afternoon tea. Unsure of cost as this was bought for us but We would recommend this to our family and friends. Very friendly and efficient staff.
Good service, location and food
We all had a wonderful evening on the river cruise and dine - thank you so much to all at The Folly in particular our two on board waiting staff! Service, food, atmosphere all top quality.
It was all lovely, however there was something missing, not sure what it was, a bit like the X factor. What is the X factor? just something that is missing.
Lovely experience...and of course, the day was sunny and warm. The food was excellent. I really enjoyed the triple-cooked chips!
We came to The Folly Restaurant for our first date and return each year on the same day as our anniversary - the food and atmosphere at Follys has always been incredible, and we are just thankful we chose such a great place to continue to return to!
I can understand why our tables were not ready, I had not clicked the button on your last e-mail -I am So sorry. You did get tables ready as soon as you could, the scones and tea/coffee were enjoyed by everyone. Thank you -- 1st class.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was extremely well presented and very good. Overall an excellent choice for surprise birthday lunch treat for my husbands birthday, celebrated with four friends followed by a trip to the theatre.
A great dinner on a clear evening with the sun shining into the restaurant across the river.
Very small choice on the menu. Food was ok, however very overpriced - the piece of fish we both had for out mains (turbot) was tiny and it was not a fillet but a very narrow piece of tail. The whole dish was quite bland. The starters were good. The atmosphere was lively and the service was good too. Beware, they will add 12.50% service charge to your bill, which is a bit bemusing as it feels uncomfortable to argue about it if say, you were intending to leave 10% or less? Which might bring your whole evening experience a bit down.
We were celebrating our sons 40th birthday and our waiters were very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. They even managed to bring lighted happy birthday candles.
Excellent service. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere and great food.
Booking on line poor.
The location is beautiful, however on a very sunny bank holiday Sunday, the restaurant was overwhelmed. Suggest reduce number of bookings. It wasn't pleasant when people were queuing and waiting for tables or pushing through diners to get on the boat tours. Far too busy and not enough staff during my visit. The menu is good although again probably due to high demand the quality suffered. My Moroccan salad was dry and lacked any dressing. I'm reluctant to recommend or return.
The food was very good and everyone enjoyed their choices. The service was excellent & tentative.
Great food. I mentioned that I wouldn't eat the bread as I have a wheat sensitivity, from that point on I was served gluten free alternatives where wheat was contained in any of the dishes - a really excellent service. On our offer the meal was great value for money.
Everybody was very friendly and accomodating with dietary needs and knowledgeable about the dishes. The food had lots of beautiful flavours.
