About The Flying Stag
It was said that if you were looking for someone in Braemar, the first place you should look was the public bar at The Fife Arms. Newly christened The Flying Stag, the public bar continues to be the social centre of the village. With regulars rubbing shoulders with visitors, the bar has a vibrant atmosphere with animated conversation and live entertainment. The bar offers local beers, Scottish whiskies and spirits accompanied by a menu of bar snacks and hearty Scottish dishes.
The Flying Stag was created by the renowned artist, James Prosek, who is known for his paintings of unique, hybrid animals. The animal is a union of a ptarmigan’s wings (a bird that lives on the highest peaks of the Cairngorms) and a stag (commonly found in the forested Dee Valley).
Took my husband to the Flying Stag for a late lunch to celebrate his birthday. We'd never visited the Fife Arms before, however based on the fantastic service, lovely atmosphere (which felt very safe for COVID times, with ample spacing between tables etc) and delicious food, we'll make sure to visit again! Our server Lee was so cheery and made us feel very welcome. 10/10 would recommend,
Had a wonderful meal and felt very safe going into the restaurant as it was very well managed for Covid.
The hotel is fantastic and the flying stag a great place to eat. I had the haggis which was delicious. My wife had the smoked venison platter which was also delicious. The meal was enhanced by the exemplary service of Lee. He was attentive and had great knowledge of the food. He is definitely a great asset for your organisation.
Very helpful staff & lovely food. Enjoyed our lunch.
It’s hard to say what I enjoyed the most, the food was just lovely but also really enjoyed chatting to the staff as they were so friendly and interesting. I guess they won’t have the same time for chatting over the summer when you fully open up but my husband and I intend to return in the autumn when not so busy. Thanks so much :-)
1st class service & food in fabulous surroundings. A day out to remember.
Excellent food and decor. Our waitress was brilliant and helpful. Look forward to our next visit to the Fyfe Arms!
A great place for a Sunday lunch, we had a long walk in the hills and then a late lunch - well a late afternoon meal - and the staff were magnificent. The food was very good (Mussels followed by a Sunday Roast) and the pub has a great balance of old stuff and modern management. It was a good balance of the regulations we live under at the moment. Highly recommended.
Beautiful Sunday lunch of roast beef, best tasting beef ever. Nice size portion but I thought expensive for the meal each £25. Will definitely comeback and recommend.
The staff were absolutely incredible. We felt really welcome, our dog too. We ordered the Hogget and had asked if it came with any chips or potatoes. We were told it came with mash. Unfortunately it was a pea mash so not exactly filling. We ordered chips on the side once we knew this and it helped to fill us up. Tasty dog biscuits!
Staff were very attentive and smartly turned out. Food was beautifully presented and flavoured.
Reasonable choice of menu, great food - but insincere waiting staff, a Restaurant Manager who seemed more interested in his bookings device - and a bill that really wasn't anywhere close to good value. Disappointing, I'm afraid
We had an “insane” steak with wild garlic aioli - it was divine! Fabulous service and love the decor! Have recommended it to several people already!! Thank you for our first spectacular meal out post Covid lockdown ! The only thing to make it better would have been a glass of wine! Hope the rules change soon!
Lee was excellent in his service
I understand the hospitality industry have no choice, but to be extremely careful due to this current “virus”. But I think the temperature taking at the door could be relaxed just a tad. Its can make the experience of dining out just a bit stressful, wearing the masks and washing hands is surely enough. Not a criticism really, just an observation. Even, although it may be just my humble opinion, I think the masks need to stop now also .
A fantastic wedding anniversary meal. Lovely staff, venue and food.
Really great to visit again, after such a long time being unable to travel! The four of us had a delicious lunch, which we all really enjoyed, and our daughter and son-in-law's dog was made very welcome, as before. He was given lots of pats, chatted too, and given a tasty treat, and he made himself quite at home on a cosy rug. Was definitely a bonus to have the window table in the upstairs section - great space for us, lovely to be able to look out too, but even better for Hector the dog, with fewer distractions than downstairs! The service was really good, pleasant, relaxed, and we were not rushed at all, which was great when we had not met up for so long. All our food was excellent also. As a perfect meeting place for us from Aberdeenshire and our daughter and her husband from Perthshire, we hope to be back again very soon, Hector the dog too!
We were made very welcome after such a long time of restrictions, it was so good to go back to the Fife Hotel, the food was excellent, and we will be back for more.
Excellent food with a good emphasis on local produce. Staff were friendly without being intrusive and made us feel like old friends. Bonus points for their patience with our excitable dog! We shall definitely return.
Menu too restricted, needs more fish and chicken. Roast beef beautifully cooked but overpriced at £25. Strict Covid rules in place but only 2 toilets in use. Impossible to have social distancing queueing in toilet area. Sign indicates use of paper towels but there wasn’t any.
Atmosphere only lacking because we were in so early, and the current restrictions don’t allow alcohol/music etc. Had a lovely lunch and the staff couldn’t be more helpful.
Great service with food always worth making the trip for ... staff are implementing and coping well with new Covid safe procedures and this had no negative impact on our visit ... lots of space offered to accommodate pram for the baby . Lovely ambience and a great place to enjoy the afternoon .
V disappointed that despite the great effort you went to check our temp, take contact details and seat us apart from other guests - that you then let in a party of 7 - they were seated at 2 tables - but the tables were side by side and the guests faced each other. This is against gov guidelines.
Great service and great food.
