About The Five Bells Inn Brabourne
The Five Bells is a stunning 16th century inn overlooking the rolling hills of the North Downs in East Brabourne. A quintessential English country pub with four gorgeous guest suites. Proud to have been twice voted Kent Life Pub of the Year and winner of Kent Pub of the Year at the 2019 National Pub Awards.
Our menus are based around the best local and seasonal produce the South Coast of Kent has to offer, showcasing the finest ingredients from land and sea. We are equally passionate about our drinks offering as we are our food with a fabulous range of beers, wines and ciders, sourced from the producers on our doorstep and further afield on the continent.
The Five Bells sits within The Pickled Egg Pub Company, a unique group of 4 beautiful Kentish Pubs around the South of Kent, all owned and operated by chef Mark Sargeant and restauranteur Josh De Haan.
The Five Bells is one of our locals and we like it there. The food is good, beers and wines are excellent and the atmosphere and service is great; however, it is a little bit overpriced in my opinion, but we still like it and enjoy going there; we've eaten and drank there many times and stayed in their excellent rooms quite a few times too, and will continue to do so post-lockdown. However, I do have a little gripe with our most recent booking. We booked in on Wednesday this week for one last meal and drinks before lockdown; however unknown to us, the pub was shut and we weren't contacted before arriving. This is not the fault of the members of staff, who have all been furloughed and the manager who we spoke to on Wednesday there was very pleasant and apologetic and was handing out free beer! The fault is with the management and your booking site who allowed people to make bookings then decided to shut and didn't cancel bookings. I would have expected the management to make the most of the last few days pre-Lockdown, both for their customers (especially those already booked in) and the business. Also, your online booking system is clearly a joke as it did not cancel our booking when the pub decided to shut and you even sent me feedback to ask how the booking went.... So here it is!
Booked for a birthday 4/5 days prior and arrived to find the pub closed. No phone call to warn us, nothing. Really poor service.
We arrived at the pub to discover the pub was closed despite having a reservation. No email or message on website to inform us. Luckily the Kings Head in Wye provided an excellent pub lunch.
Sadly your website allowed us to book a table, but when we arrived you were closed !! I am sure it would have been excellent and hope to see you after Lockdown 2
Appalled ! I turned up to see a sign on door saying closed! we had driven 45 min with 2 young babies in the car. A call to say you were closing would have been an idea! It was my partners birthday ! I understand times are hard but you should have called your bookings to let them know.
Excellent food and drink, good distancing measures, and all staff wearing face coverings.our waiter Dale was excellent
A great time was had by all, even though quite a lot of menu items were not available - but perhaps that was our fault as we booked for 3pm Dale was terrific!
Brilliant team, kept us all really safe. So sad to be going back in to lockdown. See you all soon x
The food was delicious, the restaurant was so cosy on a cold, rainy day and the service was incredibly friendly, efficient and attentive. Wonderful experience.
Absolutely lovely venue and excellent service. But.... we were a little underwhelmed by the menu choices and also by the actual food. Overall the menu and food was decidedly average, not bad, not great. We expected more traditional home cooked country 'pub' fair. Could be a symptom of the current COVID situation etc. GREAT service though :)
Great service and atmosphere
Service was really friendly and interactive
We had a really nice meal. Staff were very attentive and chatty, food was served quickly and was delicious. We had a baby with us and were made to feel very welcome. We'll definitely be going back!
Great rooms, friendly service, a lovely lunch and breakfast. Would recommend to friends.
Had a great meal here last night, food is always up to a high standard! The waiter Dale was so helpful and friendly, as were the other waiters/waitresses. Would definitely recommend the Five Bells.
Lovely food - great service and nice to see it busy
Proper country pub, Helpful and friendly Staff, Unique and cosy rooms! We will be back
Comfortable, good food, friendly staff. Lovely place!
Wonderful pub , with great food and service . A truly great find
Had a really positive experience with my family. Very friendly and accommodating service. Our wishes for seating at booking were met. We love this pub and again it didn’t disappoint! Our waiter was lovely, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. He engaged with our teenagers too 😊
Lovely place, friendly and prompt service and great food, well done.
It was a very enjoyable meal, love the cosy ness of the pub.
Service was great. Food well cooked and well presented
4 of us went on a Friday night. Service was good and the food was ok. Chicken parfait was nice but the presentation was appalling, steak was a very good piece of meat well cooked but placing it on top of the chips was ridiculous. Just steamed the potatoes into mush. When you are paying around £50 a head with drinks you do not expect these basic mistakes. We have been regulars here for 8 years and the new owners have an awful lot of catching up to do.
Absolutely lovely lunch here with a friend using the 30% off deal so great value. Excellent service and very clean and friendly in these Covid times. Thank you so much we will be back.
