About The Fishbourne
The Fishbourne is located in a picturesque and wooded enclave between the main towns of Ryde and Newport on the Isle of Wight. Situated close to the Wightlink Fishbourne to Portsmouth ferry terminal this makes us the ideal entry point to the Island to experience our quality dining and five beautifully appointed en-suite rooms.
We have dined at The Fishbourne many times and it is never a disappointment! Food is delicious and staff are very friendly and accommodating! When we visit the IOW we always pay a visit! Looking forward to returning soon!
Very accommodating Good value for money- good quality staff service
Very polite and friendly staff in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. The duck, however, was totally tasteless and very tough.
Excellent service and fabulous food, all wrapped up in a quality character pub. Highly recommended. The Fishbourne is fast becoming our inn of choice on the IOW.
We were welcomed and shown to our seats - service was pretty good but it did take some time after finishing our meal to come to clear the table. There wasn’t many people in so it was difficult to comment on atmosphere
It would have been nice to have tea and coffee served as well. All staff were very welcoming, friendly and also patient with the little ones running about. Thankyou so very much.
Lovely big room, nicely decorated with a personal touch. Decent bath towels and i loved having a dressing table! Very comfy bed. The breakfast was delicious. Staff very helpful. Would stay again and recommend to others
Fabulous venue. Proud to call it a ‘local’. 😄
We had a lovely meal before travelling back to the mainland. The service was great and the food was delicious! Definitely recommend.
Having booked well ahead for 8 people for 1.15 sunday we got drinks and decided on our lunch order only to be told there was a 40 minute wait for food!!! As I had pre-booked for a special family get together I would have appreciated being informed of the possible length of wait for our order when seated then we could have ordered food as soon as seated and not got drinks sorted first. Everything else was very good but as a pre-booked arrangement I should have been informed on arrival of the wait for food, we hadn't just wandered in by chance .I was disappointed and felt I had to apologise to my family for them having to wait so long, it was my treat for my birthday ,having everyone together.
We had never visited before and were pointed out in a vague direction to our table - we had no idea we had to order from the bar, where the specials boards were (didn’t see those til after our meal) or that we had to get our drinks ourselves. Also we found out by a note on our table that our table was rebooked 2 hours on from our booking - it wasn’t made clear at the time of booking. So with precious time of out two hours wasted waiting for service they would never come, we ordered. The food came promptly but it felt like cafe food with butter packs thrown on the plate and sauces in paper - Macdonalds style. The mackerel pate had skin and bone in. It was all just a bit off the mark. The fish pie main had little fish in it and about 80% mash, veg was under done. Again we felt a bit deflated. Finally there was no crumble, although there was indication of this (even on the later discovered specials board) - we skipped pudding - probables best as we would have had to move from the table half way through for the next diners. It wouldn’t take a lot to make your beautiful pub really special - but we won’t be returning in a hurry
excellent service from the staff
It was a quiet Sunday evening, the food was delicious and was a great little pub
as always, very kind and helpful staff and good food.
Food was great when it eventually came-had to wait an hour for 4 roasts which were already cooked! Didn't even look that busy!
This is our 2nd visit to the Fishbourne and a very pleasant experience again apart from the slow service this time. But there was only 2 members of staff this time. My partner had a small meal and the fish was over cooked( her words not mine) But there was more batter than fish so did not finish her meal. We thought about complaining but didn’t want to spoil the occasion as it was our guests birthday and they enjoyed their meals. But we did enjoy our time spent at this lovely old pub and will return. I can recommend this venue but given only 3 stars because of my partners experience.
I wrote a long email to the manager regarding my complaint but no-one replied. The service was as good as it possibly could be as there were only 2 members of staff on duty to serve a full and booked in advance restaurant plus the bar and clearing up all areas.. The staff were excellent as were the patient customers. The management however were nowhere to be seen and apparently had cut back on staff numbers even with a restaurant full of bookings.
Great food, service and great gluten free menu too we really love to go to the Fishbourne highly recommended 👍
Nice atmosphere,decent food.
We've always had excellent meals at the Fishbourne and will come back again. We like all the Inns of distinction premises and menu. My family were on the island for the weekend and we eat at the Boathouse, the Spinnaker and the Fishbourne. My only criticism of the Fishbourne would be the amount of time you generally have to wait to be served at the bar. One extra person serving would help enormously
Catered exceptionally well for gluten free food.
Lamb overdone, portions small, smallest ice cream scoops I've ever seen, overpriced, inattentive service. For the price, I think you're living on your reputation, not living up to it.
Despite being not obviously busy, the service was very slow. It took an hour to bring us one course and the orders were incomplete. The chips were cold and the fish was served without its promised butter. A family nearby had to leave their meals unfinished as they had a ferry to catch and their meals were very slow in arriving.
Warm welcome. Friendly staff. Good food.
It's a beautiful place. Unfortunately, the food took an insane amount of time to arrive (sat down at 7, order taken 7.20, first course arrived 8.15), and my cod was cooked to death, and so dried out. The 'Crab Risotto' which accompanied it was overcooked and gloopy and was tasteless. The weather was good though.
