About The Emperor
A beautiful rural pub set on the edge of the Burnham Beeches.
The pub itself dates back to the late 1700's and has been a part of the local community ever since.
Warm and welcoming with freshly prepared meals and local ales.
Our first visit. Really lovely pub, Roast and Staff. Will definitely come again!
This is the second time we came as a large group booking. Everyone was really helpful, good service and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Lovely pub and great service.
Good value for money.
Had a lovely meal ,l ordered fish & Chips and chocolate brownie. Both were delicious. Service was also excellent.
Food not as nice a normal , Put you of going back , most of it tasted burnt
This is without a doubt one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have ever had! We have been going to The Emperor for a number of years just before Christmas to meet up with family, there being 17 of us. On arrival we had drinks and then suddenly without any warning food started to arrive which we had obviously pre-booked. The waitress came out with 2 plates of starters and just handed them to me, I asked what one of them was as it looked like calamari and I knew that that was not on the menu, when I questioned her as to what it was she answered “I don’t know”. The rest of the starters arrived in a very random manner and we proceeded with the meal. The waitresses came back a while later and even though some of us had not finished eating started clearing the plates away from those of us that had finished. The main courses arrived in a similar manner to the starters but nothing came out for the 3 children, after about 10 minutes we raised this issue with the surly waitress and she said that nothing had been ordered for the children, then in a very unpleasant manner she wanted to know what they wanted and went off only to then bring back 2 meals instead of 3. When we again raised the query about the 3 rd meal she was very rude and eventually went and got another pasta dish for the 3rd child. Meanwhile plates were cleared from the main course and 2 puddings arrived, about 5 minutes later other puddings started to arrive and eventually the desert order was completed. But once again the children did not get their puddings so we again questioned why and the surly blonde waitress came out with a piece of paper with our pre-ordered food and asked in a very confrontational way who was the person who had been in charge of the ordering and I said it was me and she went on to accuse me that I had not ordered anything at all as far as the children were concerned. Fortunatley I had on my phone a copy of the the email I had sent proving that I had ordered everything correctly including the children’s. We then ordered coffee and when the first tray came out with 3 cups the coffee was all slopped into the saucers and she went back to get the rest and when she gave me mine there was no saucer so she just handed me the cup and disappeared. My husband then had to request a saucer and at the same time he raised a formal complaint with the manager about the whole catalogue of events, the manager was apologetic said that he would authorise a 10% discount and would email us later that evening with a formal apology. We are still awaiting for that apology! We left The Emperor without leaving any gratuity due the abysmal level of service that we received, both of the waitresses for so very unpleasant and did not have a smile on their faces all day so I wonder why they are working there if they do not enjoy customer contact. I would just say that it was never our intention to seek a reduction of the bill or not leave a service charge as in previous years we have always had an enjoyable experience - will be go back to The Emperor, definitely not!!
Our friends meal was entirely forgotten - the waitress asked if we were all happy when placing our food down without even checking if we all had a dish before us. The meal was then brought so late and was raw when given to us. We sent it back and had all finished our mains yet still it wasn’t ready. We had to cancel the main meal as our friend was beyond wanting a reheated steak. My other friend was asked if she was finished whilst she was still eating and had food in her mouth! Ridiculous. We were sat away from the main area, no heat or music. Our table was for 5 people at 8pm - we felt like an annoyance in all honesty. We kept being told that they were sorry, but I don’t think discounting a brownie was enough at all. We have been here many times but won’t be returning. It was rather embarrassing to bring our friends here with such high hopes and to be let down. We go our every Christmas and this by far was our worst experience.
Mmm actually sent email with Xmas menu choices - hadn’t had response so went into pub to confirm - AND THEY STILL DIDNT HAVE DETAILS OF ORDER ON THE NIGHT! Some of their choices were no longer available. My friends were unhappy- I’d persuaded them to go - especially unhappy with the attitude of the waitress. We had to continually ask for them to take our drink orders. No discount for messing our Xmas meeting up. There was a jazz trip on too - fine but loud & we weren’t aware - we were seated 5ft away from them. Food was actually tasty enough (I had no sprouts on my Xmas dinner - couldn’t be bothered to call over waitress again to advise) but presentation basic & strange - strawberry on a Xmas pudding? My 7 friends said the staff must’ve had training at fawlty towers - I was trying to be kinder but service was v poor.
Lovely food and very good service
A lovely pub with friendly helpful staff.
Lovely pub, good food, friendly staff and recently renovated.
Amazing place! Wonderful food and friendly staff! Will definitely be back!
The atmosphere and service was excellent. The food was very tasty, my only slight criticism is that it could have been hotter. But overall a good experience.
Lovely food and atmosphere, wonderful service.
The food was overcooked my steak was charred. Only half the food arrived on time. Slow service. Things need to change as we used to enjoy coming here but. We are seriously considering going elsewhere.
We visited for Sunday lunch. My husband enjoyed his pork but the roast beef I ordered was inedible. I am unlikely to choose this pub again for Sunday lunch.
the staff all seemed to be about 16 years old and spent most of the time in the beer garden talking to their friends.overall a poor dining experience
Great space for our team meeting and the staff were all very friendly and accommodating.
Absolutely fabulous venue for our party, service was brilliant and general arrangements were very laid back and relaxed! Will certainly be booking again :) thanks!!
Very disappointing with many main courses not available and we were not told on arrival.
It's always a pleasure to visit the Emperor, the service is outstanding and the food is very, very tasty. Highly recommended!
