About The Elder
The Elder will showcase what great contemporary British cooking can be; authentic, honest, timeless.
Executive Chef Mike Robinson, the UK’s leading authority on wild food and game, brings his core ‘field to fork’ philosophy to Bath, creating an exceptional dining experience with a focus on sustainability, seasonality and locally-sourced produce.
Unique in the fact that it actively manages land that its wild produce is reared, The Elder will be a true celebration of British dining. A professional Huntsman, who carefully manages the wild deer over large areas of private land, will deliver prime venison carcasses to the restaurant. These, alongside old breed beef, lamb and pork from farms with the highest standards of animal husbandry, will be used in the restaurant from nose to tail on our ever-changing menu. All carcasses come in whole and are aged in our butchery. The Elder’s focus is on provenance, humane practise and full use of every part of the carcass. Fish will derive from local rivers and the finest fisheries in Cornwall, while fruit and vegetables will be obtained daily from local farms and markets.
Relaxed and beautifully designed, yet sympathetic to its Georgian roots, The Elder epitomises opulence, pleasure and the enjoyment of a great dining experience.
Stunning venue, beautiful food inventive, local, and inventive. The decor is divine, staff friendly and helpful, felt as though normal life existed for 2 hours and haven't felt that way for a very very long time so thank you The Elder cannot wait to return
Excellent food and Ambience, a real treat!
The entire experience was perfect. We enjoyed incredible cocktails and wine, a superior menu and staff who couldn’t do more to ensure we enjoyed ourselves, and had everything. Plus they were really lovely people to chat too. The amuse bouche and soufflé were highlights but the whole meal was 5*
We were very impressed by the quality of food and drink at The Elder and delighted to have a restaurant of this calibre in Bath at last, without having an exorbitant bill to pay at the end. We will return as soon as we are permitted to do so in the new year.
Total delight. Just what Bath has needed. Every element was lovely - perhaps a slightly warmer welcome on arrival, but the service overall was excellent. The food was exceptional, delicious, creative and beautifully presented. We will be back many times I am sure... when the world is back to normal!
Truly fantastic food and service. The best restaurant in Bath!
The best meal I have eaten in Bath. Stunning.
Superb food, best I have had for years Lovely Service- a lovely Dutch guy and a local lass from Norton St Phillip Thank you for a gorgeous meal and smiling service
Absolutely stunning meal with amazing staff, highly recommend visiting the elder.
This was our second visit. We loved the food as before - this time especially the many varied tastes and textures of the Creedy Carver duck dish. And this time the music was inoffensive and unobtrusive. We'll be back.
My partner and I had a wonderful dinner here in late December. We loved the decor (it's the first ladies bathroom wallpaper I've just spent several minutes admiring) and the attentive (without being overbearing) service. And the food was sublime! I love complex and/or unusual flavours paired together into an harmonious dish, so this hit all the spots :-) They had a bit of a genius behind the bar as well - the colada and the corpse reviver cocktails were superb aperitifs!
The food is superb, quality and presentation wise. The service knowledgable and friendly. Atmosphere classic and warm. The dinner there is an experience that adds an extra moment of pleasure when visiting the city of Bath Spa.
We had a wonderful evening at The Elder. The food was outstanding and the service was brilliant. Such a treat!! Can’t wait to come back.
Lovely meal. Fallow dear was amazing. Thank you very much.
Good relaxed, attentive, yet friendly service-I trifling menu
My second visit, this time on Christmas Eve with my (adult) son. With a beatific smile, he pronounced it the best meal he'd ever eaten, and he has eaten out a lot. He was risking my wrath, but I had to agree, the chef(s) deserve sainthood! The rooms were festive, the service friendly, super-knowledgeable and the perfect blend of attentive but not intrusive. But oh! the food. My artichoke soup was not a soup. It deserves a new genre all of its own. Velvety gorgeousness with perfect bite-sized morsels adding textures and tastes. The fallow deer, dirty mash and delightful vegetable nibbles were done to perfection and... The soufflé. It was heavenly. Never stop doing the soufflés. I realise I've eulogised heavily, but I would defy you to find fault.
Another fabulous lunch at the Elder. The sea bream tartare and the deer and the mash are delish !! The team pulled together a wondetful menu using only the freshest ingredients. I could literally feel my taste buds dancing in delight. Setvice is spot on and non pretentious. The Elder raised the par of the dining scene in Bath. We will be back for more, thank u for a great lunch.
Superb service and wonderfully imaginative food.
2nd time at the Elder. Perfect Food, Perfect Service. Will keep coming back.
Lovely evening, fabulous location and food. The little touches really made it and the service was outstanding.
Amazing food, fantastic service, lovely setting, absolutely first class
A thoroughly wonderful experience on all counts from the greeting at the start, the food of course, and the setting.
Great service, lovely food, delightful atmosphere. We have already recommended to a number of friends and we will be back soon. One minor point of feedback - we thought that the starting prices on the wine list were high compared to the price of the menu.
The tastiest, most accomplished cooking. And terrific, friendly service too. Can still recall the intense flavours of every dish, 24 hours later - exceptional!
