About The Durham Ox
Lovely fresh food cooked to order
Very good meal, good service but took too long to get drinks delivered on arrival and it was only two soft drinks and a coffee. This is only reason why I didn't give 5 stars for service, we were there at a very quiet time so service should have been quicker and I had to ask where our drinks were.
Great food, great place x
Excellent sunday lunch, will return.
A good place to go to of you're gluten free. A good amount of options and a clear menu.
We had two fantastic meals here during our stay in the area. We were travelling with small children and the pub was really family friendly. The staff were really welcoming and friendly. The service was excellent as was the food. We loved it so much for dinner we went back for brunch the next day! Would highly recommend.
Fantastic all round
Brilliant service efficient, friendly professional staff. Food was excellent.
Excellent Mother’s Day lunch. Food and service outstanding. Thank you
Excellent service and a great meal. A great local for us thank you
Excellent meal good service
Excellent food and brilliant service, what more can you ask for!
Food was very poor and we had to send it back. Only 2 of us in the whole restaurant........we wont be going back, and it appears that others are not either. Great shame as we like to support independents but things really need to be improved hear to persuade customers to customers to go to the Durham Ox, rather than the Boot, Punchbowl or Orange Tree.
Evening Mr Hurley My sincerest apologies that your visit went so wrong. Your feedback has been passed onto FOH manager that evening & to our kitchen team. Of late our food & service have been highly praised so its disappointing to read we let you down, I hope over time you decide to give the DOX another chance to redeem ourselves. Regards Silvio
Returned for the second time as a family booked table on line our experience was exactly the same as our first visit had the fabulous Sunday lunch - food and service was excellent -would highly recommended you to visit and make your own mind up - i think you will return like us!!
Food was good, service very poor, I had made a booking for 4 our friends arrived before us, were put on a table for 2 , when said booking was for 4 nobody asked for booking name. It was not very busy even though Saturday night, staff standing at side we were there a while and in the end had to get their attention to order our drink. We then asked when drinks came if we could order food. My husband asked for some bread and butter to come with fish and chips.. There were 4 small pieces when this came and on the bill were charged £5 nearly as much as the cost of the starter!! 3 starters of pate were ordered 1 came with butter the other 2 didn’t . The mains came and we asked for salt and pepper ( none on our table) and ketchup for the chips. Eventually he brought salt and pepper but took it to a table near by who had been eating their mains fir a while, he then went back and took them the ketchup, they seemed to be surprised to be given this when nearly finished. I tried to get his attention and asked again for salt and pepper and ketchup..When he eventually brought it to our table he realised his error! Not good service we really had to ask for everything, staff need re training there seemed a lack of interest in customer service.. We won’t be coming back and disappointed as it had recently been refurbished and was nice inside and were looking forward to it. Sadly disappointed as we heve visited it quite a bit over the years.
Easy system to use
Food was lovely!
Came on a Sunday three weeks ago fantastic food This last weekend was not so good same menu Pork was tough needs longer cooking to be tender Burgers were dry and flavourless sorry to say Service and puddings fab though Bit disappointed as the previous visit was so good
Really good Sunday lunch.
I am so disappointed, we booked a table for six people on Sat 2nd March at 7.30pm. We loved the surroundings but the food and service was horrendous. After waiting for an hour for our food the waitress kept walking past and didn't even apologies for the delay or offer us some bread to tide us over. Maybe a customer service course would help as the only polite young lady with an irish acsent was quite bubbly . We asked for a manager and was sent a miserable girl with blond hair who certainly proved she didn't want to be there. When the actual manager came out he offered us another meal or meats and cheeses, at that point you've had enough. He said he would give us a card and didn't bother. My sister in law who was with us is a Director at the Chamber of Commerce who was disgusted. I do hope you bother to read this and get back to me on the matter. Many thanks Tracy Hague
Too expensive for quality of food
Service was great when we first arrived but as the restaurant got busy it seemed to slip a bit. For example we were given desserts with no spoons, napkins or forks. We also had to chase someone to pay the bill
We used to go to the Durham Ox regularly but when it last got took over stopped. This was our first time since the renovation and the meal, service and atmosphere were great. I will definitely be back soon.
As always an excellent and professional service.
