About The Durham Ox
Food was okay but needs to be more choice on gluten free options for main and dessert. Gluten free battered fish a little too crispy and Yorkshire puddings burnt and soggy. Has been better as come regularly, please bring back excellent standard
The starters and main courses were great, the puddings a disappointment and the coffees not hot enough. We felt a little neglected service wise and had to find member's of staff on a few occasions, the staff we did interact with were very nice
This was our second visit since refurbishment. I have 2 observations. Firstly the wine is a little pricey and although it is not yet winter we found the room quite cold as was the radiator immediately behind me
Friendly staff , clean but disappointed with the food
My roast chicken was undercooked. The staff dealt with it very well and got me a new plate of food, but the roast was just quite average.
Astute staff and attentive. Nice pub and decor lovely. Good choice of guns!! Food was nice but a little underwhelming, just some refinement needed to give it a lift.
Had to ask for extra place settings (one short), bottle of wine was served luke warm (turned out fridge was off/ not working but nobody noticed) so we had to wait 20 mins for ice to cool the wine. No other cold bottles available. Had run out of sparking water. No plates for bread. Waitress spilt coke over one of our coats and bag. Beef ragu pasta was mediocre. Shame as lovely staff and beautiful setting
I had, as part of the lunch time menu, fish & chips but unfortunately there was hardly any fish in it at all, it was all batter. My husband ordered the same meal and his fish was fine. Presentation of the four meals ordered was lovely and the service we received was very good and the staff were very friendly. The restaurant is now larger following the refurbishment and the overall setting is really nice.
The atmosphere was very loud and made conversation difficult even in the restaurant - especially as the band was playing in the bar. Circular table feels in a thorough-fare and uncomfortable for the guest experience. All the staff were lovely and enquired why 1 meal was not eaten and offered an alternative meal. It was not pointed out when paying that this meal was taken off the bill. Nice gesture. Quite busy so slow to pay the bill. Clearly other guests in there having a great time. Impressive refurb.
Lovely decor and ambiance, food was very tasty, service very attentative, would highly recommend.
Delicious Sunday lunch, fabulous atmosphere. Service was fantastic, a superb team where nothing was too much trouble. By far the best pub in Warwickshire
First time visiting and would definitely go again, lovely atmosphere. Very busy, however the service still remained adequate.
The staff were very pleasant but took a long time taking away our finished plates. The starters were very tasty however the main courses were a big let down. The main was lacking any flavour and it felt like we were eating just for the sake of and not for enjoyment. The place was nice however I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who was not white British. It was definitely a culture shake up for the other customers when me and my wife walked in, and not one they liked (dirty looks aren’t conducive of a pleasant atmosphere). Overall the staff were lovely the food not so much and the people in the restaurant which can’t always be helped added to a mediocre evening.
I did not have a great experience and emailed directly to give constructive feedback regarding a catalogue of negative points but I did not receive any acknowledement which has only reiterated my disappointing experience
Room was very cold. server and overly familiar. Food, whilst very good quality. The ploughman’s sharing platter we had as a server was far too cold therefore tasteless. Chocolate brownie served cold.
Duck was tough, fish cakes were very dry and lacked fish, skinny chips referred to on the menu were not provided, everyone felt the foot lacked something. Edible but just fell a bit short.
Service is slow, food comes in drive and drabs, here people complaining and can’t help but listen and it affects your experience
This was my 3rd time visiting & I would like to say that the service this time, wasn't as good as my previous 2 times. Plates took a while to be cleared, dessert menus were forgotten for some time & we had to go to the till to pay as no one was coming over to us. You weren't as busy as previous visits, however there still didn't seem to be enough staff on. I'm returning again on the 30th for my birthday & hope to see that on this occasion it was just a blip. Secondly, my friend ordered a dessert, that another friend of mine had on my first visit, and it came out totally different which was somewhat confusing. Also, I had the sweet chilli beef salad, which was lovely, however may I recommend that you either put the sauce on the side or just use less as in my opinion there was far too much.
The food was terrible. I arrived with two friends and we all ordered different things and none of us were happy. As I was their guest I didn’t want to complain at the time to avoid any embarrassment, but if I’d served those meals myself I’d have been mortified.
The worst vegetarian meal we have ever been served... for Sunday lunch we received a small anaemic looking round piece of pastry with a cherry tomato and a couple of sliced peppers inside, plus two hard roast potatoes ... seriously? We eat out every Sunday and most evenings all over the country, and have never experienced anything like this. We felt sympathy for the poor waitress that had to deliver it to the table. Having said that, my partner and son did enjoy their roast beef. If you continue to treat vegetarians as an afterthought you will not thrive in today’s society. We won’t return.
Had lunch (House burger) when you first opened which we enjoyed outside in the sunshine. Booked with friends for dinner on a Thursday evening. Service was good, quick and friendly staff. Food was a disappointment, fish & chips - fish batter was wet with fat and hardly any meat inside, peach dessert with shortbread was tasty but didn't expect shortbread crumbs scattered on the plate. Beautiful upgrade to the pub and I hope it was a good investment, however I won't be rushing back to bring friends here. The live music isn't to our taste during dinner and we asked for the volume to be turned down as we couldn't hear ourselves speak. Still a long way to go for us to eat here over a meal at the Orange Tree or the Boot. Sorry guys, I hope you get it right soon.
Would be nice to have some daily specials added to the standard menu?
There was 8 of us who ate on the 15/09/18 – 4 of us ordered steak - only 3 arrived. The ordered was confirmed twice by the waitress as we selected our sauces. Shame really! The Meal came within 10 minutes but just meant we all had to start as our food was getting cold should we had waited.
Excellent service - especially from Emily who was very friendly and attentive. Food was fabulous. The butter with the artisan breads was just scrummy and I don't even like butter! Would highly recommend the place and the staff are an absolute credit.
Very nice place , very attentive .
