About The Duke of Richmond
Pub and Dining Room
Tremendous quality food and a lovely menu.
Lovely people, delicious food (THE BREAD) great vibe. A perfect Sunday lunch.
We had a very nice meal.and were well taken care of. Will come back again....Thumbs up
Great food and drinks- nice variety and good quality. Had drinks in the bar area first which was nice and cosy- however the restaurant was a bit cold and slightly less intimate/more clinical. Definitely worth checking out - but be prepared to pay more than at a normal local- worth it though.
Wonderful vibe from when you walk in the door to the pleasant goodbye. Top ingredients cooked to their full potential by obviously committed chefs. Great experience..will return.
The very best place to spend a Sunday evening.
Delicious food and excellent service. Thanks for making us so welcome with my 4 month old daughter.
Reviewed Sunday 27/01/19 My friends and I were so excited about trying the Duke of Richmond as we’re all huge fans of Oldroyd in Islington. Unfortunately we had a very sub-par dining experience and felt obliged to share our experience. Upon arrival, we were sat at a very small table next to the door despite indicating (twice!) that this was a special occasion. Undeterred by this minor hiccup we proceeded to order 2x beef roasts, 1x loin of pork and 1x veggie pie. Bearing in mind this was a 1:30pm reservation, we received our lukewarm roasts within 15 minutes. Both the beef and the pork consisted of two (very!!!) thin slices of meat, 3-4 small roasties and some soggy carrots. It was clear this had been sat on the pass for a while. Whilst the flavour of the beef and pork was undeniably good, the portions were small and consisted of 30% fat. The veggie pie was again flavoursome but nothing special. We ordered 2x truffles cauliflower cheese which again was delicious but lukewarm. The most disappointing thing was the Yorkshire pudding - these were cold, hard and stale. Whilst the service throughout was competent, they never asked us whether it was “OK” and didn’t seem to pick up on the hint that all 3 Yorkshire puddings had been left untouched, alongside a mountain of cold fat. The dessert was much better - the sticky toffee pudding was moist and delicious whilst the rhubarb added an interesting zing to their rice pudding. The total bill came to £175 which includes service, 2 pints of ale and a glass of wine. The previous day we had a delicious dinner at the Michelin-starred Brat - this totalled £220 and included twice the amount of food along with two bottles of wine. Whilst I have no issue paying top dollar for good food, I left the Duke of Richmond feeling slightly robbed - the food was average at best without factoring in the cost. An additional very, very minor annoyance was that the Yorkshire puddings were priced at £1 and appeared as £1.50 on our bill. Whilst this is absolutely minute, it added to our general dissatifaction. In comparison, a Sunday roast at the Harwood Arms - also Michelin started - sets you back the same price, but you get double the quantity of warm food. We left incredibly disappointed and feel the restaurant does not live up to the hype. We’ll definitely visit Oldroyd again however we’ll give the Duke a miss.
Really great afternoon here! We'll definitely be back!
Absolutely delicious food. Definitely would come back and recommend.
Really lovely cocktails, excellent selection of crisps behind the bar!! (Monster Munch for the win!) and an inventive playful menu in the restaurant and at the bar. Lovely staff and great atmosphere, really cosy, chilled and welcoming. The deep fried mars bar should be a permanent menu feature if it's not already.
We visited having been fans of the restaurant when it was The Richmond. We had pretty high hopes and I'm afraid to say it didn't meet our expectations. The staff were friendly enough but the food was very average considering the prices (the beef roast was £21). I had the lamb and it came with mushy dauphinoise potatoes and nothing else. It was disappointing that there were little to no vegetables to be seen and always think this is the mark of a good roast. We had to pay £8 for a side of cauliflower cheese, which I thought was crazy! The desserts were a disaster - a chocolate mousse slopped into a bowl and a tasteless rice pudding. I very much wanted to like this place as the atmosphere and setting is really nice but the food just did not justify the money we spent.
Needs to do better... am a local and have been to this pub several times, most recently for Sunday lunch. The service has improved, waiting staff are much more engaged than previous visits but still slow. Food needs to be better for the prices - Yorkshire puddings were like dense cakes. This is super basic, and you could tell just by looking at them that they hadn’t worked out. Why is the chef sending them out? Dauphinois lacked seasoning and the lovely garlic flavour dauphinois usually has and looked a mess on the plate. The cod brandade starter was good and some aspects of the main course such as the sauce and the lamb was tasty. Wine has always been good too. Want to really like this place because it’s very local and has great potential but still some way to go!
Really enjoyable evening, excellent service good food and atmosphere - highly recommended
Great to have such a great pub so close. Will definitely be returning. Looking forward to getting stuck in to the bar snacks!
Brilliant service, delicious Sunday roast and buzzy relaxed atmosphere. I'd recommend the lamb! Starters on the small side but no other complaints.
Our original receipt for food was £44 btw two, we were then charged £74 split btw two cards which we didn’t notice until checking later on. We were then refunded £20 which takes the bill down to £54...still not the sum of the original bill we received. So won’t be going back until staff are able to manage simple arithmetic. Check your receipts before you leave. .
Dear Serina, Apologies you were overcharged, it’s not something we make a habit off. It was me who dealt with the refund on the night, however, your bill actually came to £54.84, not £44. So, refunding the £20 was the correct. Apologies for any inconvenience this might have caused, I’m happy to email you over a copy of your original receipt to clear this up. Warm regards John Da Costa General manager
Really great food and the staff were very accommodating
I really want to like your pub but have now been a couple of times and things just don’t go well when it comes to service and food quality... this time round we had two steaks initially that were over cooked and so we sent them back... we ordered burgers instead as the steaks had run out... my friend’s burger was raw in the middle - and we pike beef to be medium/rare - this was raw and cold - we did not think we could complain again so we paid and left... the manager was helpful and concerned about the issues when raised with him but the waiting staff generally either did not seem to know what to do or did not really care about making sure people were happy... yesterday as well as on the other occasions I have ordered food, delays between first and main courses have been excessive, for example, and waiting staff have either not noticed or not expressed any concern when I have asked about this... yesterday the gap between starter and main was an hour - I asked about this after 50 minutes and was told ours was next to be served - actually two other tables were served before our over cooked steaks finally arrived... as I say I really like your bar but especially after yesterday, when a meal for a pretty special occasion was basically ruined- I don’t think I will be coming again... sorry...
Consistently good food, great staff and nice atmos.
Nice selection of beers and good menu. Pro's Mushroom pie was delicious and staff happy to amend the sides it came with. Toulouse sausage and parsnip puree that came with partridge was very tasty. Cons Partridge was overcooked and difficult to cut and chew and was accompanied by too much red cabbage.
Really great service and food 👌 we’ll definitely be coming back again.
