About The Dropping Well
The Dropping Well Bar & Restaurant is a landmark pub located in the suburb of Milltown in South Dublin, just down the road from The Nine Arches with panoramic views of the Dodder River. A fine traditional bar which has been extensively renovated over the years to provide our patrons with a superior atmosphere and exceptional facilities. We have two well-appointed private function rooms catering for all of our customers function requirements. The Well is an easily accessible business as the Milltown Luas Station is very close by and we have a large customer car park. Our Management and Staff work as a close-knit team to ensure that patrons of The Dropping Well have the best possible experience during their time with us.
Being the main local pub in the Milltown area we have a loyal local customer base, however we continually strive to provide the very best service to these valued customers, listening to what they want and doing our best to achieve that. We feel that the reputation of The Dropping Well under the banner of the Charlie Chawke name shines from our very core here.
Our menus are continually being updated to provide a superior seasonal dining experience for all tastes and dietary requirements, and we also have a large and varied wine list and rare liquor stock.
Our head chef Udo Wittmann joined us in October 2017, and he has invested great care and dedication to enrich our food offerings and menus. We have invested in a 'Josper' oven to achieve a delicious chargrill taste to our meat and fish dishes. Udo has also compounded our ordering to achieve a list of suppliers that is as local as possible, always supporting Irish suppliers and producers wherever possible.
The Dropping Well is a classic building, established in 1847 and we have kept the authentic feel of the premises while providing comfort and atmosphere within our fantastic conservatory restaurant with beautiful views of the Dodder, and within our traditional bar and lounge areas.
Lovely evening on the balcony! Great food and service
Very poor food, chicken burger and lasagna tasted like they were just microwaved. Bill was just handed to us by very rude waitress, and some of the drinks we ordered never arrived yet were still charged to us. Very dissapointed and will not be returning.
Great staff and food, thank you
A pleasant evening (allowing for covid restrictions!) Great service, good value food. Lacking atmosphere but hopefully 2021 will be kinder to us.
Very fast and efficient service. The food was lovely. Will definitely be back
The staff were fabulous and the area we had felt safe and well managed for Covid precautions. Lovely evening. Thank you
Un lugar donde pasar una cena en buena compañía y con buena comida.
Nice relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff
Fantastic experience in what are trying times. Service was top notch, the atmosphere was great and the food delicious. Would definitely book here again
Great service as always.
Welcome back - hope it’s for the long term. We had a lovely meal and (as always) loved the warmth of the welcome.
Great staff, great food, great venue.
Lovely evening as always. Sitting up in the dining room not as atmospheric as the main bar area especially for younger people; might be an idea to put older people in dining area as would also maybe feel safer than being around younger people....but a lovely evening as always
Very nice but portions a bit on the skimpy side
Server was excellent
The staff are always so nice and friendly we visit fairly regularly.
Lovely meal, will be back, thank you
Upon our arrival we had to wait 30 mins for our table as the previous occupants were "still eating their dessert". Why do we book a time then? Other than that the food was amazing, the drinks were amazing and the overall atmosphere was good - we had a good time. The waiters didn't check in with us as often, but that's understandable as you guys were EXTREMELY busy. We'll definitely come again. Please just work a bit more on getting the tables ready on time :)
Delicious food, good service in a very safe atmosphere
Great food and fabulous service. Staff are so friendly & efficientt. Look forward to my next visit already
The breakfast was very nice and we werent waiting long on order to recieving our food.staff plesent and efficent.will be back in the future .
Thank you so much. My Uncle used to be a regular before Covid. He loved every moment of being back and made a fuss for his 85 birthday. You've done a great job with all your Covid compliance too - safe but still a lovely relaxing atmosphere.
My friend and myself had a lovely evening in the Dropping Well yesterday. We were very impressed with the social distancing protections provided. We had a lovely corner table with a divider between our table and the next. The service was excellent, very friendly and professional. Highly recommend for a meal out
Cold were we were sitting in the glass raised area. Buttermilk chicken burger v average Kids lasagne v tasty Sausy and chip bang on All dessert were delicous as if they came from a different kitchen. Staff were v nice Overpriced kids menu
The fish cakes as a starter were lovely, my friends gourmet burger looked and delicious and she said it was yummy, I love the food in the dropping well, I ordered a chicken fillet burger... it was tasteless, first time not happy.., the only other problem was the pub was freezing, we never took of our goats! The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful... and great that they will book a cab for you to come home.. looking forward to visiting again...
