About The Dining Room at Chewton Glen
The Dining Room at Chewton Glen, is a truly cosmopolitan and quintessentially English restaurant. Offering a nexus of beautiful conservatories, intimate dining spaces and a stunning open wine room. The Dining Room is as formal or relaxed as the mood takes you. A completely new open format grill menu carefully created to celebrate old Chewton Glen favourites, and embrace an eclectic selection of new dishes. All intelligently cooked - from amazing ingredients in season - then simply and effortlessly presented.
Was surprised to see service across the front of the guest - i.e. laying a fork from the right hand side. Its very traditional I appreciate - perhaps its gone out of fashion for even five star hotels. Some elements of the dishes could have been higher in temperature - again I appreciate that when creating the finished dish time has to be taken. The size of the Sea Bas fillet should have been bigger for the amount charged. Bar Staff should be fully aware of the bar snacks and their potential allergens for coeliacs. A table of four - possibly regulars / staff (?) took up a lot of the staffs time and I noted a fellow diner rather put off by the encroachment of his personal space when a server took a photo of the table. Are not all diners equal? Some observations to help improvement as opposed to complaints - we will be back however there are very good establishments in the New Forest offering better value and equal culinary experiences.
The Chewton Glen consistently get it right. Great meal, service and environment! What's not to like and appreciate.
Very poor customer experience from start to finish.
Unfortunately there was a 10 minute wait to be seated and then a 45 minute wait before any food was served, not worthy of the 12.5% service charge automatically applied to the bill!
Beautiful afternoon tea!
Excellent Sunday lunchtime experience, all dishes of very high standard. Only comment would be that when asking for additional gravy for the roast beef this was placed on the plate directly instead of in a serving jug which then meant the plate was a little swamped. Service was brilliant, loved the extra attention to detail with the birthday card and desert for my partner. Highly recommended.
Starter amazing, main excellent, dessert out of this world. Staff attentive but not intrusive. Is we lived closer we would book a table every weekend.
Beautiful food and surroundings.
Beautiful setting and beautiful food. Superb staff, very attentive. Will be returning for sure
Not a 5 star experience. On entering tbere is no clear indication of where to go. We stood like lemons near the unmanned lecturn for an age before anyone seated us. The guy front of house was unwelcoming. A lady colleague who was excellent throughout came to our rescue and seated us. We seemed to have 2 staff waiting our table the aforementioned lady and a guy who was overattentive continuing to ask us every 2 mins if we were ok we could not relax and enjoy the plesent setting with his constant interruptions. Also he removed our food before we had finished. The scones were superb but sandwiches and cakes dissapointing. The grounds were noce bit a little unkemped along the unswept paths around the garden.
A wonderful way to celebrate a very special birthday - everyone thoroughly enjoyed and all felt very special
We had a lunch menu and thought it was priced perfectly for what we had and the service we recieved.
Just to say lovely surroundings and staff helpful but for a £30 a head tea a few pointers- cup and the teapot had brown marks before starting, the small cakes were slightly dry as if made a while before. I have had a more fresh and special tea before,so wouldn't do it again.
We have enjoyed numerous afternoon teas on our travels. Chewton Glen is by far our favourite. Did not spoil our afternoon the Dining room was fine but preferred the area to the left from entrance where we were seated on previous visits.
We had lunch for my mums birthday was very slow service , we had to keep asking for service. Waited a very long time.
First the good news: the staff were outstanding, I repeat outstanding. I am not just refering to the restaurant staff either. From the moment we drove up and a porter helped me unload my wheelchair to the moment we left no one could have been more welcoming and helpful, the restaurant staff particulaly so. The meal: too fussy. The dishes loooked as though they wer part of a TV cooking competition! . In retrospect I think I did not make good choices. Perhaps we should have gone for the a la carte rather than the set lunch. But then it could have cost a lot more and still been too fussy! On thje plus side the Sancerre was spectacularly good. The real negative was the other lunchers. Summer or not I would never have considered eating, lunch or not, at a restaurant of the standard of Chewton Glen without wearing a tie and jacket. I was the only person in the restaurant so attired. Open-necked shirt, jeans!! Pleassssse!!!. What an insult to the chef and the, immaculately turned out staff. I do hope that you have dress code for dinner if not for lunch. Sorry not planning to drive sixty miles again to lunch surrounded by oiks.
Best vegan meal I have EVER had. Ali Sharpe.
All perfect as always, my only comment would be £20 for a Gin and Tonic is very expensive. Apart from that staff, food, and overall experience- perfect 🙂
All staff were polite and helpful. Obviously well trained and love where they work, which came across in their professionalism.
A most enjoyable celebration lunch on our wedding anniversary.
The food was incredible, beautifully presented and absolutely spot on: the crab starter was delightfully delicate but lifted by the little slivers of pickled radish it was served with, and the mushroom risotto (also a starter) was earthy and pungent, with a real depth of flavour. Mains also delicious. Impeccable yet also very friendly service. George in particular was absolutely fantastic and it was lovely to see his passion for his job and the hotel. Hands down this was one of our best restaurant experiences of the year so far!
We attended for afternoon tea. The food was delicious and the service was exemplary from the moment we walked through the front door. All in all a wonderful experience.
Wonderful lunch followed by a walk in the grounds.
A lovely venue with a very relaxed atmosphere. Good service and fantastic food. An excellent choice to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Food absolutely perfect and excellent value for money. Service good although the time taken between being first seated to our order being taken and receiving drinks/bread was on the verge of feeling ignored. Requests for water when we first arrived were severely delayed
