About The Dining Room at Cable Bay
Luxurious and elegant, our multi award-winning restaurant uses the freshest seasonal produce from our organic kitchen gardens and orchard every day. Our talented chefs take inspiration from Waiheke’s terroir, our elegant wines and Auckland’s flourishing food culture to create modern New Zealand cuisine that is all about flavour.
Exquisite steak, just amazing. Really nice service We will return
Had unfortunate mix up where one of the mains wasn't put through and we had a long wait for his to come. However our waiter was very appologetic and offered us free drinks. Would still go again as the food was delicious
Food/wine and service was great!
We were a group of 6 going for a long lunch. We started in the Dining Room. The service was incredibly slow and we sat there waiting and looking for someone to serve us for a long time. Finally when we were served, we ordered a cheese platter, breads and a salad to start while we waited for one of our group who was running late. The cheese platter was expensive $36) and really only enough for 1 person. A ridiculous price for such a small serving. The service continued to be slow, the menu was limited and well overpriced, so we moved for the rest of our lunch to the Verandah where the menu was much better … however we had our issues there with service too until I found the manager to say that no one was looking after us.... with so much competition on the island with wineries - I wouldn't go back. Our general feeling was that they don't work on repeat business as they probably don't have to with so many tourist visitors each year... disappointing.
The food and surroundings are superb but the service was a bit hit and miss to be honest. We came in at 2.25ish on Sunday -our booking was for 2.15pm but the Waiheke taxi service let us down even though we had pre-booked...I rang ahead and the lady who took my call advised that the kitchen closed at 2.30pm so we had better hurry...but that she would talk to them and see if they could stay open a bit longer for us. Our first waiter was efficient and took our orders so that the kitchen could do their job and finish up. While we waited we had moved our wine glasses and the reserve sign on the table as we were taking a photo of the view - as I am sure everyone does - and another lady (French I think) came along and moved them all back and when I asked her to leave them as we were taking a photo she was very rude about it and gave us the death stare and avoided us the rest of the afternoon. Very unprofessional and not very customer leading at all. Then a third guy took over the dining room, Italian maybe? He was very friendly and engaging and finished our time at Cable Bay on a high note. The food was fabulous, we tried the corn, scallops, Prosciutto, the lamb main and the handcut fries...all sensational. We also had a cheeseboard to finish...which at $70 for 4 small pieces of cheese and a few crackers seemed a bit overpriced? Had we known it would cost that much we might have flagged it to be honest. Overall we had a fabulous time and were lucky enough to be allowed to buy one of the Reserve Syrah bottles amongst a few others to bring home with us, so thank you for an overall wonderful experience.
Our lunch at Cable Bay was everything we could have wished for and highly recommend the whole experience
Fabulous food and wine however having booked in for a special occasion, which was stated this at time of booking, we did not feel it was any more special than any other nice meal out we have had.
Really disappointed to learn that due to court decision there will be no service for food and drinks in the outside area. Also the bar area not able to be opened to the outside and therefore closed by a plastic windbreak curtain. Hope the management are successful in overturning this decision🙄
We had a great time, and all the prearrangements we made for the occasion we celebrated went as planned. Thank you for a lovely experience!
Great food and service; top notch !
The food was outstanding thank you
Food was brilliant
The food was amazing!
Always a lovely place to come for some food whilst on Waiheke.
Awesome food. Friendly but professional staff.
Wonderful location, excellent food. A truly great experience. My only minor complaint was that the cheese patter, whilst excellent was a little on the small side in terms of portions.... But we ordered a second one and solved the issue that way.....
Absolutely haven-like surroundings, friendly service and elegant food. Will come back.
Absolutely perfect dining experience. The view is to die for, the string quartet was a lovely surprise, the ambience fabulous, the service impeccable and the food was utterly delicious. Everything on the plate was there for a reason; all our dishes were perfectly balanced; the steak was perfectly cooked and beautiful, served with the tastiest jus, and the portion sizes were spot on. If I lived in NZ I'd be back here often. Thank you to the kitchen and service staff for the perfect finish to our holiday.
The service we received was terrible. First of all starters arrived with one of the dishes we had ordered missing, we agreed for that to be brought along with the mains..after a 2 hour wait our mains arrived without the missing starter and without our side dishes, we waited so long we ate the mains as they were going cold and then after another wait the side dishes arrived. Eventually the missing starter arrived after everything else had been cleared away. The 1st bottle of wine we ordered was put in a ice bucket on the floor at the side of our table. Nobody ever came to refil our glasses, and we did not get offered any water in the whole time we were in the restaurant. We had to ask the table behind if we could use their water as there was no service around us for the majority of the meal. Half way through we ordered a second bottle of wine and a glass of wine. The glass arrived and after a 20min wait we asked a staff member for the bottle we had ordered. It arrived 10mins later and was just put into the ice bucket on the floor yet we were all sat with empty glasses !! The waitress did apologise as we were leaving and we did receive a 10% discount off the bill we chose this over the offer of desserts as we didn’t want another long wait for the next course. You market award winning chefs yet these chefs either can’t time their cooking times to enable mains and sides to arrive together or you wait staff need more training into the deliver of food to tables. This was our first trip to Cable Bay and we won’t be returning in a hurry or recommend you to anyone. I was also deciding between Cable Bay and the other vineyards for a Conpany event we have shortly. Cable Bay will no longer be an option after a poor performance this weekend. Due to the fact that this was also a birthday and Hen party it is really disappointing that we received such a low standard of service for a 1 off weekend that we won’t be able to repeat. A staff member advised us that the reason for the poor service was because this was your busiest weekend of the yr yet you had plenty of empty tables the time we were there. I would hate to know what sort of service you offer when the place is actually busy. Also the lack of Waiheke Wines on your wine menu was also disappointing...if I wanted a Marlborough Wine I would of organising the weekend in Marlborough and visited the vineyards there instead.
All staff knowledgeable friendly and helpful
Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon dining experience. Thank you.
Perfect setting for lunch. Very friendly and professional staff. Food was excellent.
We had a excellent time at Cable Bay and we can’t wait to return again in the future.
