Very sophisticated foods and good service made us very happy.
A truly memorable night-amazing food, great wine and some stonking whiskies!!!
Hi there, I've just become a member and took friends for our first meal at SMWS Queens Street. Food and wine was absolutely spot on. Cannot fault the quality of the food at all BUT... 1. We did not get our wine list until we were about to order our food 2. It took 45 min for bread and an amuse-bouche to arrive 3. An hour passed to get our starters on the table 4. It took some time to get our mains on the table as well 5. Our friends missed their train because we had to wait 20 min for our bill to be completed 6. I had to refill our wine myself - no attention to detail or needs of the customer 7. We had to ask every time for the one white wine drinker to have her class filled. We were desperate to have some whiskey to close the night but this went out the window with the time lost in serving food. The confirmation email stated to have the table back by 21:30... We were just served our starter by this time!!! Don't know wheat went wrong last night in the kitchen - our waiter kept on apologise for the time delays but don't know for what caused it. Fantastic food tainted with very slow service. Regards Ron Tait
Good morning Mr Tait, I would like to thank you for taking the time to post your review. I would like to personally apologise for the service you received on Saturday evening, as you can see from our usual reviews, this is certainly not our usual standard. I note that you have just become a member of the Society and would ask that when you next visit Queen Street, please do let me know, or ask for me on your arrival, so that I can welcome you personally and apologise for your first experience with us - Sarah Prior, General Manager: [email protected] or 0131 625 7483
Stunning meal in arguably the best venue in Edinburgh. Attentive, knowledgeable service and truly excellent meal. The only thing I missed with this new menu arrangement is the little whisky tasters between courses which is a shame you’ve stopped doing.
We were disappointed with our experience yesterday. We have dined at the MWS on many occasions over the years and have always had excellent service and cuisine of the highest standard. However yesterday the food itself was fine but not up to the usual quality, there was no amuse bouche and the staff were pleasant but untrained. We hope this is a minor blip in the service and that standards return to the high level we are accustomed to receiving.
Many thanks for taking the time to submit your review, and I am very glad to hear that on your your usual visits you have been happy with the service provided. I am therefore very sorry to read that your experience on Saturday evening did not meet our usual standard and your expectations. For that I certainly apologise. I would like to ask you to contact me personally should you choose to visit us again, so that I can personally welcome you and apologise. - Sarah Prior, General Manager, [email protected] or 0131 625 7483. Many thanks
Always a treat to visit SMWS, food is great, staff attentive and engaging and the whisky heavenly! Never been dissapointed in any way. Highly recommended.
A great night out. Thanks
Excellent food in nice surroundings. Particularly liked having no background music.
Really enjoyed the taster menu and matching whisky; all drinks were paired well and the explanation about the food and whisky was thorough and interesting. The restaurant setting was very relaxing and we never felt rushed. Our server was fantastic; she was so knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy her role as a whisky ambassador. I will definitely be back, perhaps to try the wine pairing next time.
Beautiful food served by friendly knowledgeable staff. Such a gorgeous building. A real gem and would recommend to friends without hesitation
Magnifique établissement, nous avons passé une très belle soirée. Le repas était très bon et les propositions de whisky accompagnant chaque plat étaient parfaites. Le serveur (parlant français) nous très bien bien conseillé. Merci encore.
Excellent service and extremely well looked after by the staff.
Excellent service with each course explained . The waitress was especially excellent
Food was delicious, pairings great, staff member very knowledgeable and attentive. Highly recommend for a lovely dinner out or special occasion
Good service and we handed in a birthday cake which they dealt with exactly as asked, which was important as it was our customer's birthday.
A highly enjoyable experience. Many thanks to Karen for looking after us so we’ll.
My family had given me a voucher for two for my seventieth birthday which aneighbour and I used on Saturday afternoon. I knew it would be a good experience, but it exceeded my expectations!
Lovely meal, great friendly service, wonderful atmosphere with no distracting background music! We enjoyed our meal and would have preferred at least one ‘plain’ choice of vegetables as the deliciously complex flavours of the duck only needed a simple accompaniment. Thank you for a super evening. The best chips ever are available in the bar!
I had booked this as a birthday treat for my boyfriend and the service, atmosphere and food was perfection! We had the menu du jour where it was 3 meals for £29 which is incredible value for money when the food was that spectacular. Our main dish (sea trout) was one of the best meals I've ever had! I would happily go back and recommend it to anyone
We had a really excellent dinner on 5th November. All the dishes were beautifully presented and had wonderful flavours. Wine selection could be a little broader. Service was very good.
Just great to be at your place, everytime! Thx a lot Urs Zeder, Swiss Member
Four of us had a really lovely dinner last night, the food was excellent and whilst the front of house staff were helpful the team seemed to be understaffed and therefore overstretched and not as attentive as I would have expected for a meal of this type. It was noticeable enough to make me think twice about going back if this continues.
Excellent food and friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff. The wines recommended to us were great.
We had a very enjoyable evening in the Hunter Room hosting 16 guests... Our only comment would be on the small portions that are offered on the fixed price menu. We would rather have paid a bit more and at least had vegetables to accompany these small portions or two more generous plates for the price. The cheese board was also meagre However we were well taken care of and all staff worked hard to make our evening a success.
Great service and lovely food which looked and tasted really good. Good value for money for lunch. Wine list a bit limited and pricey. Staff in the members area a bit mixed, one looked very fed up the other was in great form!
