A recently refurbished historic pub & restaurant dating back to 1748. Set in the ancient village of Old Hartley this coastal destination is a short walk away from St. Mary's Lighthouse & Seaton Sluice. We are the first pub in Northumberland as you travel north up the coast from North Tyneside located on the Coast and Castles cycle route.
We serve authentic English pub food delivering the classics but with a focus on high quality and locally sourced ingredients. We cater for families, vegetarian and vegan tastes alike. Our drinks menu provides for all tastes, from craft ales to your popular favourites.
We can uniquely cater for groups of up to 15-40 people in five separate dining spaces including our Bay View 1st floor private dining suite, with stunning sea views across to Whitley Bay. We also have an outside terrace that seats 60 people, socially distanced.
This grade II listed building is stunning in its setting and décor. We have worked with renowned artists, designers and local craftsmen to create something very unique.
Opening from mid-day until late, reservations are essential.

Really good service and friendly staff. Could maybe have some quiet music playing for a little more atmosphere. Outdoor seating now have unbrellas which is a good option for when the weather isn’t as good. Good choice of food, big portions and well priced. Food is good however the wrong order initially came and I was given a chicken wrap when I ordered the vegetarian option however it was quickly resolved. Plenty of space to take a pram. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely 😊 staff friendly and helpful … gorgeous surroundings and fantastic food … I have told lots of people about the Delaval Arms … hopefully it will become our local when everything is opened up again !
Had a lovely meal. The staff were friendly, our food was brought out very quickly and the staff returned several times to check everything was ok. Our three small dogs were also welcomed! We will definitely return next week for another meal! Looking forward to seeing inside this time!
We received a warm welcome on a chilly afternoon. The staff were friendly and efficient. The house ales were very good
I was somewhat disappointed with our first time visit. There werec5 of us and 2 had to sit on small stools, very uncomfortable. Our food took 40mins from ordering to table and dessert order was slow but not as long. I had the pork special as did 3 of us it was served on dry bread slices, pork was dry, very little gravy (ask for more). The quality of the food was very poor. Coffee was very strong and not great taste. I did not want to embarrass anyone by complaining and was not even going to write about it until I recieved survey. After our experience I would not recommend your establishment. Another issue was delivery people and others walking around without masks, yet we were given strick orders before entering to wear masks. I think asking for a deposit during a weekday when only a few tables occupied was not right when other people could just walkin without reservations. Overall very disappointed.
Good experience as usual
It was brilliant that we got a booking at short notice. We liked where we were sitting even if it did rain. But, although the staff were friendly, they forgot our order... twice. Two different waiting staff. Firstly a main meal, so by the time we were nearly finished our food, my partner was only just receiving his. And then when we ordered more drinks, my partners coffee was forgotten. If it had of been busy, I feel like it could be forgiven but it really wasn’t. Although you’ve got a great little outdoor area, I think the fundamentals need to be reviewed. We probably will be back as we did enjoy the food we had. But I just hope everything goes a bit more smoothly on our next visit.
Would have liked apple sauce and mustard to accompany meals ordered. Thank you for some tasty foods and very pleasant staff were serving
Your outside space is really lovely. The server we had was spot on 10/10
LOVELY SPECIAL LUNCH . THANK YOU CATHERINE AND LAURA FOR GREAT SERVICE
Lovely terrace even in the rain! Excellent service from Eve and very good food!
Good experience but it was very cold, can’t wait to be inside and see the new decor. Will definitely be back.
Considering the weather which was awful. The staff were BRILLIANT. .attentive and friendly and really made us feel welcome. The food was delicious and well cooked. Thanks to everyone ,We hope to be back soon .
We had an amazing night for my husbands 60th
Great meal and lovely service
Beautiful outside terrace, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and very helpful. We went for Sunday lunch and both the beef and vegetarian were both delicious. We will definitely be returning to enjoy something else off the menu. Well worth a visit and very good value for money. Highly recommend.
Felt Covid safe, staff great and food delicious, thankyou.
We enjoyed being able to eat and drink outside. Couldn’t fault anything. All very safe. Looking forward to eating inside. We have recommended The Delaval Arms to our friends and family.
Very helpful staff and the outside seating was lovely, especially in the 'suntrap' corner!
We had Sunday lunch, could not fault it definitely a 10/10
Lovely surroundings, heater above table great and prices good. Friendly staff also
I have visited twice now .both fir my 70th Birthday. Once on Sunday 18th for Sunday lunch.I ordered a starter of garlic and chilli prawns for a starter and a small Roast beef dinner. If pthat was the small one then I don't think I could eat the normal size. The beef was succulent and Yorkshire pudding and gravy fab. Fresh veg to accompany were lovely. Incredible value for money. I have visited today Monday 19th (carrying on Birghday Celebrations!) for lunch and it was really lovely menu.Service amazing food as good as yesterday.I had the garlic and chili prawns again but as my main. Delicious. My friends had Chicken skwer and fish finger sandwich both of which were really tasty. I am visiting again on Thursday 22nd at 6pm. Carrying on Birthday...well why not? The ambiance is great and we had a lovely heater keeping us warm and we saw Vera .!!! Whats not to like? I wish this lovely old pub restaurant all the very best in their new venture. Helen Fenwick
We all really enjoyed our Sunday lunch, good size portions. Really tasty and lovely fresh vegetables. We will definitely be back. Arthur took over serving our table and he was superb, very friendly, polite and thorough. Thank you.
Hi Overall we enjoyed being back at a much improved Delaval Arms. Looking forward to coming back especially when COVID rules allow for inside eating and drinking. Our only comment, not a criticism, would be to provide further heating outside. Kind Regards
Great service, fantastic beer and lovely food!! A lovely spot in the sunshine!!
