About The Culpeper
So this is exactly what you think of when you think of The Culpeper. It’s light and bright until night and then it’s bright and light until later.
It’s about relaxing; hanging with a bunch of friends or the good crew from the office. It’s ‘grab some lunch’ but with a hazy plan about what’s on this afternoon; it’s a cocktail or two after five and a totally easy dinner kind of thing.
We’re right on the water’s edge so you know it’s going to be ‘at ease’. Our owner thinks we’re here to celebrate food, fun and friends; we think we’re here for a good time (and a long time)…
Remember every good time is made up of moments. At The Culpeper, making the most of the moment is up to you.
Small plates and main were spot on. Was impressed how the waiter offered us Bluff Oysters once they'd seen we were Oyster fans. Only complaint overall is no gluten free options for Dessert menu.
My partner and I absolutely love The Culpepper, their food, service and atmosphere is great. The only thing that we found could be better is that some meals don’t have a side at all, and for what you pay you’d expect more than just some steak slices. Otherwise everything else is superb, we will definitely be back.
Always love coming here - great atmosphere and friendly staff!
This place is amazing! Beautiful food and atmosphere. Highly recommended!
I booked Culpeper because my first choice wasn’t available however I was pleasantly surprised with the full experience from the service to the food and the scenery. Culpeper name was derived from a botanist who also made Gin hence the area of greenery and Gin selections, how do I know this? We were lucky enough to have not only a great waiter but an informed one, Fernando (from Chile) filled us in on part of the history of the establishment which I found refreshing and professional and even though he was educating us on his work place he wasn’t at all annoying or overwhelming with his conversation and knew when to leave us to ourselves and our meals and return with more interesting facts. As it was a Thursday we were lucky enough to come on $2 oyster night and $5 happy hour for the alcohol (how lucky were we?!) We had Oyster starters with wine and chose the brisket and steak, Fernando recommended the Tuna starter which was absolutely amazing with the combination of flavours and texture of the tuna leading us nicely into the mains. The brisket was delicious with a charred outer layer making it juicy and the inside was perfectly tender this was accompanied with a lightly sauced coleslaw and mustard each complementing the star of dish, the coffee steak (didn’t taste like coffee) was just as flavoursome and tender however the brisket was my favourite. After that we had the recommended hazelnut cake which was a chocolate mousse and biscuit crusted base paired with the mandarin ice cream, again a perfect choice with the mousse being velvety and the ice cream delicious with nice hints of mandarin. I can’t fault anything here except the fact it should be on the top floor of a 20+ story building so the views can be as good as the food and service. I am glad my first choice was not available because this experience was first class. Thank you Fernando and Culpeper for the experience. Gracias
Service was so good! Food was perfectly done. Can't really fault anything.
We had such a delicious dinner at The Culpeper... beautiful chargrilled chicken, the key lime pie for dessert... yum. Will definitely come back, gotta try those injectable donuts!
The roasted cauliflower is delicious as is the jalapeno cornbread...we just wish the serving of the latter had been a bit larger1
All our food was great. The service was professional but not as friendly as desired and the locations is lovely but a little quiet for a Friday lunchtime.
We had a great evening thankyou. Our waiter was wonderful- thanks! Happy hour specials are great value and the oysters were deliciously fresh!
Lovely night as the First Table. Good food, good service, great location on the water. Good value for money, will recommend to others.
Lovely evening at the Culpepper. Good variety of food- something on menu for everyone :)
Always enjoy our meals here
Great customer service and really accommodating, thoughtful towards our children dining with us.
Great location and service with a smile. Wine during Happy hour was delicious! Ordered the ribs but sadly to spicy - would be great to have an alternative sauce option.
We had a great time at Culpeper, the food was very tasty and well presented. The waiter was great, and very good at remembering our orders and thought to ask great questions - like did we want a break between our entree and mains etc. A lovely night.
So impressed with the lovely wait staff. Very welcoming and especially since we came with first table. Generous food portions and very tasty. Divine setting very impressed with everything at Culpepper!
Very let down. Service was slow, unwelcoming and wait staff were uniformed about the menu. Been twice before so was excited this time as it was my birthday, but were not made to feel welcome. Vegetarian food for my friend was literally 20 minutes later than the rest of the table for both courses. So she had to rush through her meals. And they were pretty simple choices. Some dishes were quite nice but a bit misleading - eg 'taco's were really more like lettuce cups - brisket was cold, was warmed up when we asked but a gravy would've worked well etc. Overall, nothing great. Music was really loud when we got there - and, no, we're not all 'old people'. They did turn it down a bit after we asked. I'd reserved a table but no-one greeted us, we sat down and then they had to check to see if we had booked, making it a bit uncomfortable, so no sense of occasion / feeling special. Overall, not sure we'd return and we've really liked it before.
We love eating here, however we notice that different chefs produce different outcomes to meals.Had the ribs but they were tough and not a lot of basting as previous sittings.Great location and vibey ambience.Good customer service.
If there is a big group of you I suggest you reserve a table, pretty packed during happy hour!
Had a yummy dinner. Will have to come back to try the mojo chicken as had sold out before we got there. Thanks for a lovely evening
