About The Crown Inn - Reading
The Crown is a charming 18th century Inn that offers a warm welcome, excellent food plus superb accommodation and plenty of space for parties, meetings and weddings.
Set in the picturesque hamlet of Playhatch. Close to Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Maidenhead, The Crown is the perfect place to get away from it all.
Lovely food, great service.
We held my father's wake here. Everything was perfect even when needing a little extra . Would certainly recommend
Great meal with a friend for a well needed catchup. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Food was all really good, would definitely recommend the dark chocolate torte!
Service was a bit slow but lovely waiter dealt with my food intolerance kindly.
One of the few places I have found that offers good service and great food every time.
We hosted our wedding reception at The Crown and we had such an amazing experience. The Crown went above and beyond to help us have everything we wanted and had great suggestions. Food was amazing, beautiful venue and fab service. Everyone said the same just how amazing the whole thing was!
The Crown is one of our favourite go-to restaurants for a good night out.
Very nice staff and great tasting food
My only complaint would be the lack of range for vegetarians and vegans. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful setting, clean and tidy, friendly service with real quality food. Fabulous Sunday roast, with ample of food and no limit on how much you require. Throughly recommend
Lovely food and great service.
Great meal in a beautiful country pub
Thought the menu was disappointing and we had real trouble finding something to order. I was given the wrong drink and then we were served the wrong wine (it was rectified straight away though) and the evening finished by us being asked to leave at 11.10pm as the manager in charge's taxi had turned up and she wanted to go home!!
an excellent inn very homely great atmosphere old English style. food is top drawer and staff very pleasant and willing to help with any thing on menu etc always a good meal and evening when we go perfect.
Great place and food was really nice.
Fantastic as always
I have to say that this is the first time I have been disappointed with my experience at The Crown. My husband’s steak was very grisly, the lamb that I asked for pink was overdone, the Mac n cheese was not as it has been in the past and your baby back ribs appeared to be from another supplier as they were different and not as good as usual. I am hoping that our next visit, which won’t be directly following a crucial football game will back to your usual excellent form.
I had a booking for Saturday 7th July as it was my mother’s 80th birthday and I wanted to treat her. We choose the Crown as we have been there on previous occasions without any problems. I would just like to say and disappointed and disgusted with the service we were give. I asked to have a table in the smaller room to right hand side of the Crown as my father can’t walk very far and was told that would be fine however when we got there I was told the football was being shown in there so we couldn’t sit there. Our table was booked for 12.30 and the football was being shown at 3.00pm. We would have been long gone before the football started. When I phoned on the Monday before I was told it I ordered Hot Smoked Chicken salad having read that it came with gem lettuce, avocado and garlic dressing. When I received it I was so disappointed with what I had ordered. Salad usually comes with cucumber, onion beetroot peppers etc. Not just a plate full of lettuce, dozen tomatoes halved and talk about garlic dressing the whole plates was drowned in it. HOT SMOKED CHICKEN SALAD. The chicken was cold and the avocado was brown and I thought it was very expensive for what I got. The actual service at the table was very bad too. I had to go to the bar to order more drinks as no-one came to our table once we had been served our food which is very poor. Due to the reasons above I will not be going there again and would not recommend you to any of my family or friends.
We were made to feel welcome, the staff were very attentive.
The standard has dropped quite considerably since we last visited The Crown. Very disappointed
A pleasant meal with a good level of service
The food is always lovely and they now do cocktails.
Very enjoyable food served in a friendly atmosphere. Will definitely come again.
Very friendly staff, food it very tasty indeed. I’ve been to The Crown a few times now and have always been impressed with the quality.
Simple process to book on line. We were fortunate to get a table outside, such a lovely setting. Our order arrived promptly, however it was incomplete, a quick word with one of the bar staff and this was rectified within a couple of minutes.
Really lovely evening. Very attentive staff. Thank you.
