About The Crown Hotel
The 'Red Cow' @ the Crown is our wonderful pub/restaurant and it proudly boasts delicious KNEAD dishes with ingredients sourced from our Tallington farm just six miles down the road, or elsewhere locally whenever possible.
The décor has picked up the signature KNEAD attention to detail – with quirky features appearing on every wall and in every room. And, of course, the Crown Hotel serves up a fantastic selection of ales, wine, cocktails and more.
Please note: Your booking will only be kept for 15 minutes, please call us if you are running late.
Great Service. Buffet had plenty of food for the numbers of people, no one went hungry.
Excellent service and really great food, cooked perfectly as fussy steak eaters !!
Well its a tale of 3 parts really as we'd booked for a family birthday lunch and when making the booking we'd asked if it would be possible to park in the car park at the rear of the premises as one of our party can't walk that well, and also noted one of the party was gluten free. The gluten free part can essentially be ignored as this was well catered for, but the no response to the car parking question was disappointing. Given the nil response I telephone the hotel on the Friday evening and explained about the parking situation - spoke to a lovely lady on reception who said whilst we couldn't park overnight lunchtime would not be a problem and to ring the bell on the entrance when arriving. So Saturday arrives, we pull up and ring the bell to be met with a male member of staff who quite simply needs to reflect upon their customer service skills. The response was at best terse if not slightly sarcastic as he turned us away despite explaining the conversation the previous evening which he was simply disinterested in. Had he taken a polite moment to explain the car park was full due to hosting a wedding reception and to aplogise for the perhaps oversight of the information given that would have been fine, but attitude counts and he needs to strongly reflect on how he deals with customers who were at the end of the day following instructions from other members of their same team. Family dropped, car parked, lovely enjoyable lunch well catered and served despite the staff running about with a very full restaurant - didn't see the chap from the gate but that doesn't surprise me given the foregoing events. So food, atmosphere and value all score but the let down of that one element of service, with apologies to others in the team, leaves service down at 2 stars and overall recommendation 3 as can I really recommend given all this? Thank you to the restaurant staff though - you did wonderfully!
as always, a terrific meal at the Crown. Food quality and quantity is always very good and accompanied attentive service in a lovely environment.
As always we were looked after by your excellent staff. Food was delicious and David (pink shirt!!) made sure our quick lunch was perfect!
"My very favorite place to lunch with my friends"
came in with friends for sunday lunch ...had the beef ...it was uneatable ..full of fat.. under cooked and stringy...no one came during the meal to ask how it was ...when we came to pay i complained about the quality of the meal it was took off the bill which is all well and good but not what you want when you come out for lunch....approx two weeks ago i came for a evening meal with friends ..who ordered a steak ...which was sent back twice it was poor quality and almost raw ...a pattern seems to be occurring here .....i eat at the crown fairly often and the food quality to me at least is not as good as it used to be regards Mr P Williams
An amazing venue. Our private function with family and friends was given that personal touch that made all the difference. Attention to detail and service was outstanding, food was amazing and lots of it, guests were raving about the qaulity and variety. We were made to feel like royalty and nothing was too much. A BIG thank you to the Crown and its staff, you made our specual occassion so SPECIAL, our guests will cerataily remember the day. Suzanne and Ged
Lovely food, great atmosphere.
Service was extremely slow and errors made. Then a really long wait for food to arrive
1st Class Hotel & Restaurant with an excellent service team!
Lovely Sunday Roast
Very good food and service.
Our first visit, excellent looking inside & out, first class service, great menu to choose from and delicious food - what more can you ask, we will return, BIG thankyou to the team involved
Service was slow considering this was a Thursday evening and there were very few people in the restaurant. Most of the food was ok but the slow cooked beef was inedible. It was tough and full of gristle and should never have been served. It was so obviously bad that I think the staff knew it but decided to see if they could get away with it. This was borne out by the fact that having taken one look at my finished plate the waiter enquired “ oh dear , was it tough? He then instantly offered to take it off the bill and informed us that they had had a bad batch of beef. So, if they knew it was bad why did they serve it? Surely it is better to take a dish off the menu than to serve something which is clearly not up to standard? Any chef worth his salary would/ should have been ashamed to let that plate leave the kitchen.
Excellent wine tasting evening - fantastic food and Yealands wine
Lovely setting and great décor, unwelcoming reception by I'm guessing the restaurant manager (was wearing a pink shirt) who did not greet us at all, just took our name & led us to a table. He gave us two menus & a child's menu for our 14 year old son, rather insulting that he did not even ask if we wanted a childs menu and further insult to injury when the children's menu only catered up to the age of 8. We waited a long time for another waitress to come over to take our drinks order, and when she did she was clearly suffering from congestion & cold which was rather off putting. We ordered our drinks and after some time these were delivered by a very pleasant blond haired waiter around 17 yrs, who was friendly polite and smiled!. The waitress with the cold then came back to take our order and this was served less that 10 mins later by the smiling young lad who had served our drinks. The food was tasty and we cleared our plates but very pricey @ £17 each for roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and a few veg. Unfortunately we left with a large bill for one course and 1 round of drinks, needless to say we did not stay for pudding. Not in a hurry to go back although the setting was nice, I'd rather choose somewhere a little friendlier with better service.
Thoroughly enjoyable Father’s Day..thank you!
Had a lovely Father’s Day lunch . As always first class food and attentive service . David always makes us feel welcome and is very professional at all times .
The table was a little tight for 6 people and there were quite a few dogs in the restaurant.
Fantastic breakfast, lovely atmosphere, would highly recommend.
A few bits of feedback from our party. It was very nice and one of the best afternoon teas I've had (being gluten free)! Great customer service. Lovely experience overall. It was very nice and the food was good. Yes it was lovely, beautiful place for afternoon tea and the food was lovely also. Staff were very tentative and welcoming.
