Nice place and i go often as i live locally BUT always problems. This time run out of roasts, 30 minute wait for food, the wine i ordered had run out but the most bizarre - they had run out of butter for the (overpriced) bread so had to eat it dry while waiting half an hour for the grub. What?!!
A couple of us arrived early and we were very grateful to be allowed sit at our table straight away. The staff were all very friendly although our initial orders (wine, water, etc) took a while (and a few reminders) to arrive. But after that service was great and we had a lovely time. The food was delicious - we’ll be back, I’m sure.
The roast dinner is by far the best I’ve ever had, it’s even better then my own roast - hard enough to get a table so wanna keep it on the down low ;-). AMAZINF STAFF, AMAZING FOOD (the roast Potatoes are to die for) AMAZING ATMOSPHERE!!
This is the second time using the private hire space at The Crooked Well. The first time they did so well that I decided to book again for a different occasion! The service and food (wish there was more!) was brilliant and the booking staff was super flexible and helpful! No complaints!
We very much enjoyed our visit to The Crooked Well. We were a little tight for space but appreciated that we could be squeezed in on a popular night for Christmas parties. Staff were all very friendly, food was served promptly and enjoyed by all. Thank you very much!
Good pies to share.
The meal was great and the people very nice. The dessert was a bit disappointing but the overall experience was great!
Third year in a row that we our charity has been to the Crooked Well for Christmas lunch. They manage to maintain a high standard of cooking even when catering for large groups, which is not easy. Service has always been really good too. In previous years we’ve had a private upstairs room, which has been great. This year we were placed in the main pub, which was not quite as convivial- but we still had a lovely time.
All excellent! We went here for a staff Christmas do, and everyone had a great time! Thank you everyone at the Crooked Well.
Staff were very efficient and friendly and made the evening very enjoyable. Having our own bar staff was excellent. Food was very tasty.
Scott was great! He was attentive and kind and even up for a laugh, even though it was very busy and we were some of the last to leave.
portions quite small actually for a roast. Went home a bit hungry. Stingy on the crackling. Food was excellent however
Amazing Christmas lunch, thank you so much for making our meal so fun and delicious!
Great hosting and really nice staff. Also the set up was really smart.
Cocktails used to be fabulous. Now sometimes a bit basic. Had a margarita which was somewhat below par. You used to make a bonfire margarita which was the nicest drink I’ve ever had. You really should train the new staff to make it! Our waitress was fab- staff are always amazing here and the food is delicious!
We came here for lunch after our wedding and had a fabulous time! Our server was lovely, and despite working on her own (her co-worker called in sick) she took good care of us and ensured we had a great time.
We booked our table for 1.30 and received email confirmation of that time. When we arrived your system showed 2pm. I note this review also states 2pm. I thought we may have been offered some drinks or discount for the error. We ordered a child’s roast beef but got an adult portion. I had to collect my children’s drinks from the bar as they’d been sitting there for ages. One of the waitresses took away my 9 year old daughter’s unfinished dessert when she went to the toilet. The service has usually been really good so we were disappointed yesterday.
Fantastic first Sunday roast of the season at The Crooked Well. Will be back :)
You really can't fault the Crooked Well on atmosphere and service, it's exceptional every time. All of the food was absolutely fantastic except one dish, which is why I'm knocking off a star so sorry! The crab ristotto was bizarre - almost like rice pudding with crab on top. However, everything else (including starters and wine) was lovely. Thanks for a lovely evening, we will be back for sure.
Such a fantastic supper. Best roast chicken we have had ever. Thank you so much!
Great food and great service even though we arrived a bit on the late side
Lovely pub for a Sunday lunch. I had the fantastic nut roast. Great service, lovely atmosphere, although is a place more serving food than for a drink on Sundays.
Fab Sunday roast!
We booked here recently for a party of 5. On arrival I was not pleased to find that we were told we could not be seated at our table until 18:30 although our reservation was made for 18:15. Therefore, we had to get a drink at the bar. I don’t think that you should receive a reservation for a certain time and then arrive at that time and be told the kitchen is not yet open. The atmosphere was pleasant and the food and drink of a good quality. However, the prices are expensive and I don’t think the food was special enough to warrant this. You have to pay for sides separately in addition to mains that are already pricey. At the end of the meal, we found that we had been charged £50 extra as the waitress mistook to individual steaks for 2 higher priced sharing steaks. Had it not been for us noticing this on the bill, we would have overpaid substantially. Perhaps they could have offered us some kind of good will gesture to apologise for this. It was not a small oversight. Overall, I would not eat there again.
I booked The Crooked Well for my mum's birthday because we have been many times and know it is very good but when we arrived on a Friday lunchtime (normally packed) it was dead, we were the only table, there was no music. On the menu there were no olives (?basic) only one seabass because the delivery had not arrived (??) kids meals came out with adult mains not starters (kids should always be the served first) the pork chops we ordered were not cooked well...the fat was white and chewy (basically the whole thing not been cooked enough) the dover sole with samphire was beyond salty. We didn't bother ordering dessert. The only saving grace was the waitress who, although serving on her own, was very sweet and did her best throughout the meal. Very disappointing and not the lunch I had expected. Unlikely to return. Such a shame.
