About The Crabtree
The Crabtree is a family run public house, located in the beautiful Sussex countryside south of Horsham.
We serve great local, seasonal food, organic wines and fabulous real ales in warm and welcoming surroundings.
An excellent evening in a characterful pub with good food and friendly staff.
It was a lovely treat for my birthday. Delicious food, lovely garden, good service ... what more can we ask.
Great pub/restaurant with a lovely ambience and excellent service. Just the place to go for a lovely evening with friends
The waitress was very friendly and courteous. My friend ordered a fresh mint tea at the end which only had 1 small sprig of mint in it, otherwise the food was lovely.
Waitress was run off her feet so we didn’t get water, various sauces etc despite asking - it took several asks to get what we wanted! We love the Crabtree but you need more staff!
Fantastic staff and efficient service....the atmosphere was just perfect for our meal.
Excellent friendly service food excellent cannot fault
Despite having a lot of staff the service was very very slow. We would have ordered three courses and more drink, but we sadly ran out of time due to the slow service. Note to other customers that a large wine at the Crabtree is 175ml (standard wine serving) I advise that guests check the drinks menu before ordering wine. On a positive note the food was tasty and hot, the pub itself is in a nice setting with outside dinning and a garden for those summer evenings. We might return again but if we do it will not be on a weekend
We had heard amazing things about The Crabtree so decided to try Sunday lunch. It didn’t live up to our expectations in all honesty. The welcome was fantastic and our table was ready early. Our table however was located in the thoroughfare between the front door and the back door - it was chilly sitting there and there were no other tables as it was busy. An elderly couple came and sat on the table next to us and the likewise felt it was cold. The table was also very near the kitchen which should have been fine however there was some excessive shouting coming from the kitchen which included ‘come on guys it’s the last stretch let’s get these dishes out’ - surely they realise the customers can hear them shouting? Our starters were fab, both really tasty and decent size too. We both had roasts which were disappointing- the veg and Yorkshire pudding was lukewarm at best, my partner sent his back. I had the leek tart which was quite tasteless apart from a lot of cream! The potatoes were more like boiled potatoes than roast. We weren’t asked how our meal was despite us both leaving half our plates, I suspect that the staff knew it wasn’t great. I’m not sure whether this has put us off going back completely, I think it’s likely.
Our waitress was excellent. Hitting the right note of hospitality. A lovely young lady. Thank you.
Lovely meal and helpful staff, definitely will be back!
We had a lovely meal. Great setting. Lovely crab starter and the sorbets were delicious.
Food and seating area was lovely. Unfortunately service was very slow and we waited over 15 minutes for someone to take our drinks order and then another 10 mins for them to arrive. We then had to wait another 10 minutes to place our food order. Staff were very pleasant and friendly and could not fault their interaction with us, apart from we felt we had been forgotten as we were in a side room. If service had been quicker, value for money would also have been rated higher. It was our first visit to the pub and we will give it another try, as we are hoping this was a one off for slow service.
Great service and food we couldn’t have asked for anything more THANK YOU
Very expensive starters , wine etc
For our last three visits we have specifically said when booking on line we do not want to be seated in the central area as we find it claustrophobic. We requested either the garden room or the front room. On every occasion we have arrived to be told neither area was available. I understand this however would have expected to have been contacted beforehand and I would have cancelled, it appears the system reminds you of your booking but The Crabtree pays no attention to your booking request, Seated in bar area - too much noise, disruptive children. Service very friendly but not very efficient - we were asked after starters if we wanted desert, and a very long wait for deserts. We have used The Crabtree every few months for many years and are unlikely to return after our recent experiences,
Everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed there lunch. The sea bream and Lemon risotto were particularly good. Service can be a little patchy. We needed to ask for water and it wasn’t replenished despite the warm weather and towards the end of lunch no one enquired about whether we had completed our lunch and we eventually came inside for our bill. A small improvement in service would make this an even better experience. However, I am sure we’ll return
We rate this as one of the best and most memorable ‘pub’ lunches we have ever eaten. We will definitely be going back.
Lovely evening as usual here. Service and food excellent. Thanks so much.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The food, staff and setting were all excellent. We shall be back and have already recommended The Crabtree to friends.
