About The Cornish Arms
Based on Rick’s famous recipes and overseen by Head Chef Ashley Gains, The Cornish Arms in St. Merryn offers a simple British pub menu, with dishes like real beef burgers, mussels and chips and scampi in the basket. Expect some of St Austell Brewery’s best ales and a great selection of wines.

We went for Sunday lunch on 1st November and I can't begin to say how disappointed we were. We had a table in the new section of the pub which had zero atmosphere. We ordered the food and it arrived with 3 minutes, like warm and certainly not freshly cooked. Overall an experience we would not like to experience again.
Brilliant food, so tasty ! Service was amazing too
Always a treat to eat at the Cornish Arms. Wonderful staff, great service.
Excellent Lamb Curry dish
Last meal before lockdown - we were very pleased to enjoy a lovely last meal before lockdown. Staff made us very welcome and looked after us. Chefs created a lovely meal that was really tasty and good quality. Thank you all and good luck over next months. See you in Spring.
We were very cold at our table. We had a young baby and a toddler who were freezing. We put on our coats but no one seemed to realise that our table right in the corner was very cold
We couldn’t fault anything it was great the rump steak was exceptional we had a lovely evening and can’t wait to come back
Dinner was lovely, tables were a bit close
The service was terrible, and after having prevously visited and had a lovely meal we were looking forward to a lovely meal. We were very disappointed, had to wait quite a while for our food order to be taken and only after that were we asked if we wanted a drink, and were not asked again. We had ask for spoons for our soup, and also for the for our vegetables, the roast was served on cold plates. The waitress came to collect our plates took half of them and then disappeared. After we have previously recommended we will not be doing so again.
Great family meal, our choice to eat at 1430. Still busy and great atmosphere. Good service, slightly slow but with social distancing and working around everyone to keep us all safe, that was fine. Lovely pub at the front for a drink before lunch highly recommended! Enjoy
We found our Waitress utterly charming. She made our trip!
The food was delicious. Absolutely outstanding and extra Yorkshire puddings, more gravy, was no problem for them. Service was so lovely. All staff very cheerful and accommodating. Thank you so much for the best Sunday Roast. Even in covid restrictions it was very pleasant but strict rules applied. So thank you for the effortless service but still perfect.
We came for a Sunday roast. The service was outstanding and all the staff were just so lovely and helpful and chatty. In the current climate they coped amazingly with little fuss yet strict rules. Thank you so much it was amazing. The food was just amazing and we will definitely be returning.
booking on line was easyish - but a call back from Claire made booking even better
All good enjoyed the experience even within the constraints of COVID 19
Really great evening and the food was fantastic. Very fresh sea bass and good value kids meals.
We visited The Cornish Arms as a family whilst we were recently in Cornwall on holiday as it had been recommended to us by friends. It was such a disappointing experience and, to be honest, a waste of money. Whilst the environment was pleasant, the Covid hygiene precautions and cleanliness excellent and the staff courteous, the food was extremely poor. I had the celeriac soup, which was okay, but the parsnip crisps were in fact soggy, tasteless ribbons lying in the soup. My husband's sardines were warm, on a cold plate with a cold relish. When the waiter asked how our starters were and we explained our disappointment he said 'sorry' and that he would tell the chef. I then had fish and chips. The mushy peas were completely bland, with no texture and the tartare sauce was a tasteless puree on the plate. So disappointing! The waiter did not ask how us how our main course was; I expect he did not want feedback from us. As we had complained about the sardines I felt that an appropriate gesture would have been to not charge us for this item. However, the bill came with no acknowledgement of the disappointing food. We felt that the situation and experience could have been suitably rectified. However we left feeling that we had spent quite a lot of money on sub-standard food. It seems to us that the Rick Stein name gets people through the door and allows a mid-price menu. It is a pity that the celebrity name does not match up to the standard of the food.
Been a few times now and always have a great meal.
The food was excellent but the service was very poor. We waited over 30 minutes to have our drinks served after we ordered them. There seemed to be no one in charge and the staff seemed to think the slow service was "standard". Having eaten at St Petrocs the night before, the service was like chalk and cheese !!
A very enjoyable traditional pub experience
Sadly this was not up to the normal 'Stein' experience. One main course was inedible and had to be refunded. We thought the place lacked atmosphere and that unique special feeling in other venues within the same brand was just missing. We were so disappointed.
I would like to see other options on the children’s menus, my 7 year old is not a big meat eater, and whilst I see the healthier options are good perhaps a pasta dish with tomato sauce or cheese sauce would be good. Also, fish fingers might be more appreciated, rather than a piece of fish, these can still be made heathy:)
Great service and delicious meal enjoyed by all of us. Felt entirely safe under Covid-19 restrictions. Would love to return.
Helped to reorganise our internet booking. Really good service. Staff more relaxed compared to when they had to serve in the marquee. Food very good as usual. Overall our favourite venue in the area
Really enjoyed the food, atmosphere & service will definitely visit again thankyou
