About The Commodore Inn
Here at the Commodore we are all about putting that twist on British Classics. Our ethos is simple, we want you to have a proper Steak & Ale Pie, but we want that pie to be the best Steak & Ale pie you’ve ever eaten.
Serving food 7 days a week, whether you are looking for a warm pub atmosphere or a scenic bay view in our newly refurbished restaurant we can accommodate to all your needs
Service was poor, having to ask for dishes that hadn't been brought, cutlery, sauces, napkins. We ate outside and the many smokers nearby were off putting, there needs to be separate areas for eating and smoking. Food was quite nice.
Under the circumstances the staff were brilliant food very good
Lovely food and very friendly staff. Safe environment and very accommodating.
Enjoyed the food, the whale and chips. Had it last year. We booked a table online and so did not have to give more info on entry for track and trace. No temperature check but sanitisers around. Service good. Busy outside but okay inside. Servers were a little distracted by the workmen.
Service a bit slow and we had to ask about sweet menu about 20 mins after main course was cleared away.
We ate upstairs in the restaurant part of the Commodore Inn. The decor and atmosphere were lacking. We were in a large empty room along with a few other families. Understandably, the atmosphere was different because tables were well spaced out - but it did feel like a waiting room with cream walls and grey furnishings. The food was not good. We had macaroni cheese, pie and chips and kid's pizza. Food wasn't great. On the plus side, service was great and the pub downstairs looked much more inviting.
Staff were very good. Enjoyed our meal but it was a shame it took so long to arrive. Part of our order was for the Seabass and it took nearly half an hour for a member of staff to tell us it had run out. Had to wait for another meal to be made. We appreciate the restaurant was fairly busy but the wait was a bit too long. Wouldn’t stop us returning though.
No social distancing being followed, clearly they have a system but the staff are not doing it. Felt uncomfortable when the staff got super close to take orders. The place wasn’t very clean but the food was great. One waiter was outstanding, super friendly and helpful. Had an issue with one dish but he fixed it very quickly and gave a sincere apology. The starters were amazing, steak great too!
I had butterfly chicken over lyonaisse mash and to be truthful I'd give it 2 out of 10. The chicken was so rubbery it would have bounced if dropped..I wouldn't return at all because of the meal.. so disappointed
Very poor. Worst meal in a long time.
Tables were well apart. Staff very friendly. Food was nice but the crumble was not the best and a bit pricey.
I ordered Whale & chips. The fish batter was very oily & overcooked. The table was not sanitized before we sat down , it still had empty glasses left that were removed for us to sit down. My wife's meal was ok but not special.
We booked very easily through the website. Restaurant was clean and staff attentive without being intrusive. Food and drinks arrived quickly and the food was delicious- best fish and chips I think I've had! Toilets were clean but there was also extra sanitizer/cleaner to use if wanted Atmosphere is limited- but that is the circumstances We have just started eating out again and this standard of service and quality is very reassuring
Low score on service as we had a long wait for food, but food very nice when we got it, and they were very apologetic once they realised their error.
Super friendly and attentive staff. Gorgeous food and great value. Most importantly, they are dog friendly which is top priority for us whilst on holiday. They even brought our doggies a bowl of water over. Big thumbs up from us.
Excellent food and efficient service
I was disappointed with the "pie". I read the blurb on the website where it mentions "proper pies", so the chicken stew topped with a puff pastry top was a big let down. The manager said that he would mention it to the chef, but I'm sure the manager knows what's on offer and should take responsibility himself.
The staff who greeted us were really courteous and helpful. They all definitely made it a comfortable and safe environment. A very enjoyable time was had. Wendy, Claire and Lisa P. S. We all live and work locally
Pity you had no Lamb available - considering the surrounding fields are full of lamb!! I've give 3* for service as it was very difficult to get someone's attention once we had sat down in the restaurant upstairs. On the whole we both enjoyed our food and beer and we appreciate the efforts you all made regarding the Coronavirus issues etc..
A fantastic experience, great food and service on our visit sat 18 July 20, thank you and hope to visit again soon.
The food was very disappointing / poor, Drinks ok and the service for the young guy [man utd supporter sorry dont know his name] was very good. we had 4 meals over the weekend and this was the worst by a mile.
Allowing for Covid-19 restrictions our overall experience was poor. The waiting staff were pleasant but seemed to lack support and guidance. We were more or less ignored after ordering drinks, starter and main eventually receiving our main at 20.45. Full review on Trip Advisor.
Very slow service and very expensive not good value
A lovely experience during difficult times, thank you for looking after us. The food was delicious and the Sticky Toffee pudding was the best my friend had ever tasted
Warm welcome and shown to our table in Restaurant. Very quiet there due to Covid19 so I can only leave a poor atmosphere score. Good choice on menu and food was hot and tasty. I would return and urge others to try it too.
