About The Coal Shed - One Tower Bridge
The Coal Shed in Brighton has been named one of the best places to eat in the UK and is set to bring the restaurant’s approach to cooking the finest steak and seafood to its new branch in one of Central London’s most sought after location.
The Coal Shed at One Tower Bridge will be honing the best of meat, fish and fire; seasonal, sustainable meat and seafood, including a range of 35-day, dry-aged Scottish steaks from the North Highlands that will be expertly cooked on hot coals. The daily changing specials board will feature rare breed cuts for specialist farms and for seafood fans there is a selection of fresh fish and crustaceans from the South coast.
Every Sunday, the restaurant will put on a full sharing roast, complete with all the trimmings, perfect for the family or group gathering. For those visiting the theatre the lunch and pre theatre menu will showcase the best of the menu with two courses for £20 and three for £24.
Open daily from 12-10pm, diners will be able to watch the chefs at work in the open kitchen in its relaxed, contemporary take on old-world glamour.
brilliant food- my team loved it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for fantastic food and first rate customer service We didnt drink anything other than water but will sample the alcohol choices next time round.
Five stars for value for money as we had 50% off. Otherwise it's quite an expensive meal and a treat rather than somewhere to go regularly (although it was our second trip in a few months). Brilliant food and lovely staff.
Great Service! Tasty Food
I was very disappointed with our visit on Saturday evening to The Coal Shed. Originally I booked the table for 8:30 and presumably to changing the number of covers a couple of times, which I was grateful for, this was pushed back to 20:45. On arrival we were told that our table was not ready yet and we could take a seat in the bar until it was. My first observation of the restaurant was that it was largely understaffed. With a single barman, we waited to be served for a good fifteen minutes as he attended to drinks orders from the restaurant. He was helped by the receptionist/front of house member of staff but as it appeared she was also clearing and re-laying our table, this further extended our time at the bar. Additionally, there was no-one at the front of house to assist other guests with coats or answer the phone, which seemed to be ringing for a long time. We eventually sat down to our table at 21:30, 45 minutes after our booking. Once sat down we proceeded to order and did have some help from our waitress. My partner, who suffers with a severe peanut allergy, ordered the veal tartare which came with a hazelnut part to the dish. Due to her allergy we specifically noted to our waitress that we would like this left off and she also checked with the chef on the rest of our order. When the starters did arrive, the veal tartare did in fact have the hazelnut part still on the dish. We alerted a member of staff who took the dish back to the kitchen, before returning with another without the hazelnut part. According to our waitress the peanut allergy was noted on our ticket to the kitchen, which I find particularly worrying that this has been ignored/forgotten, particularly as this is a matter of life and death. Additionally the response from your staff was incredibly disappointing and insensitive. This largely echoed the theme of "good job you realised" and "lucky for me/us you spotted it". I find this disturbing that although this is a matter of life and death for my partner, it was more of a concern that the restaurant or waitress was not in hot water rather than the health and safety of a guest. The night from there was really very tainted. Again, we waited quite a long time in between courses and when our main courses did arrive a lot of it was not very hot at all. I don't believe we were ever asked how our food was throughout the evening and the restaurant continued to feel understaffed with a difficulty to attract attention of the only two servers to ask for our bill. As we were out to dinner with a group of friends, I was not prepared to cause a scene with regards to the hazelnut error nor was I wanting to debate with our group on whether to pay the service charge, therefore we paid. I think due to the delay in our table and food, we were all keen to leave and get home as soon as possible. I do not normally write reviews back to restaurants personally nor add anything to review sites such as TripAdvisor. However, on this occasion I feel it very necessary. We have visited your restaurant, The Salt Room, a handful of times and have enjoyed it and I read about this restaurant as one of the best of 2017 in the newspaper. On this occasion the majority of our group were not drinking and our bill came out at £50 a head, with the service charge. At that price you expect great food and great service and this did not satisfy either. I would appreciate an explanation response to this feedback but unfortunately, it's safe to say I will not be recommending your restaurant to anyone. Kind regards, Lucas Hesling
Perfect, great service, great food. Just perfect
This is my second visit to the Coal Shed in SE1 and I love it. On both occasions, the service has been amazing without exception. My only criticism of the 3rd January visit was, many items were not available due to change of menu the following day. I would book again, anytime.
Absolutely stunning meal, the best steak I’ve ever had and the greatest array of sides. Loved it.
We were a family of four with 2 kids aged 10 and 12 from overseas and had a fantastic New Years Eve early dinner. The food was excellent as was the service. The waitress was extremely helpful with the menu choices. We all really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks for a great evening.
We had a really nice evening, the January 50% off food offer made it a bargain but even so, food very good and service even better - friendly, efficient. Will visit again.
We recently had our fourth visit to The Coal Shed. Service, hospitality and atmosphere as good as ever however, the monkfish (usually our favourite) left something to be desired. It was 10% over cooked and despite the claims of our waiter that the spicey sauce had been removed, the spice was clearly present. The fish itself was also poorly presented on the plate. I guess it was partially our fault for asking for a modification (no spice on a white fish!) of the new menu - we should have had the bream. The Maitre D handled our complaint very well. We shall be back!
The food was utterly delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive without intruding. I have been to the original and excellent Coal Shed in Brighton and, dare I say it, this one is even better.
Went for the set lunch, both had the short brasied beef which was stunning. Have already planned to come again.
We went at lunchtime and was it was quiet, but it was early January, I'm sure it would have been more atmospheric later in the month.
Regular at Brighton, London location lived up to expectations, although service was a little hit and miss with several items missing until we asked a second time, perhaps just bedding in mistakes, but drink and food great tasting and super quality.
Great service and really well prepared and presented food. Happy to recommend to anyone.
Exceptional experience. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great food with genius combination of flavours.
Excellent meal with the offer, if not it’s rather pricey- especially the wine. Delicious octopus and artichoke starters, good steak and I loved the hot shellfish though it was swimming in butter. Awful spinach was it bland cheese or a roux that had gone wrong? Yummy cheesecake and rhubarb too. Given the lack of passing trade the prices are too high for many return visits. Shame cos it’s well executed
This was my third visit to the Coal Shed - and my most disappointing, The Coal Shed was offering a 50% off food deal for all of January - however when we go there, we found many items on the menu were not available. We were told that there was no seafood platter, no surf and turf and selection of fish was limited. Most of the meat cuts were large - only for two people sharing. Very disappointing compared to my previous two visits.
The set menu did not appeal and the a la carte was very expensive.
Great location for team lunch as we are located nearby and the food is of a really good standard. The service however leaves something to be desired especially if you're in the private room as we were. We seemed to be forgotten about a number of times, had to look for a staff member when we needed drinks or extra food and when the restaurant got busier later in the afternoon, the service deteriorated even more which prompted us to leave and go else where for further drinks and cocktails. If you're just after good food though, then I would recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for a well rounded dining experience, this wouldn't be a place I'd recommend.
We were really pleased with our meal the other night. We were there on the new menu deal but would be very happy to pay full price for what we had. Service and food was excellent.
This place is fantastic, food is sensational with service to match!
The food was amazing, especially the heritage vegetable main.
Great restaurant, a bit pricey and above our budget but loved the experience. As a lover of food I found the food to be cooked perfectly and the service was excellent.
