About The Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn, which is owned and run by the Holmes family, is a traditional rural pub situated in the heart of the Isle of Wight within the beautiful countryside. Our pub is the perfect place to eat and drink on the Isle of Wight.
We pride ourselves in providing fantastic fresh tasty food created with as much local produce as possible, with an elegant and relaxed atmosphere.
We offer a family orientated pub with a large children's play area to keep them entertained for hours on end, so you can relax and enjoy your time here with us.
Staff very friendly and efficient. The food was very tasty. Considering the restrictions in place they are doing a splendid job.
Friendly, helpful staff. Felt very safe for 1st trip out in a year.
Nice food, great for kids, even in the rain
We were shown to the table quickly but the 3 rd member was ignored 4 times by the girl working-class yes she was serving but all she needed to say was I'll be with you shortly but she wouldn't even make eye contact and bid to acknowledge the person waiting - it did affect how we felt about the visit even though everything else was great.
Due to circumstances all staff did well although it would have been good to have heat!
WE had real problems using your app for ordering and by the time the food came we were frozen! also the beef was too raw / pink for my colleague but she didn't want to complain.she had the roast dinner. food got cold easily outside so we ate quickly. Had to come into toilets' to warm up as frozen!
Excellent provision for when the weather is not so nice, as it was on Friday. Fast and efficient service. Shame there were only bottled beers - but that is understandable in the present circumstances.
Nice staff Nice play area Pizza really nice
One of our favourite places on the island. Great food for us whilst the kids go crazy in the play area. We make sure we get a meal at the Chequers every time we visit my mum.
Lovely place, smashing service! We will be back to eat next month when over again! Sadly it was too cold to eat when called & just had drinks, but what we saw looked amazing! Noticed the Motorhome/ caravan pitches & they looked fab! Cannot wait to try those out! Ideal location on the island & a super family friendly place to eat drink & chill out!! xx
Only gave ⭐️⭐️ For atmosphere because we were outside on a Sunday afternoon. We’ll definitely be back once this plague is over.
Food lovely and hot great service thanks
Very. Well organised. Food and drinks arrived at our table promptly. Lovely roast dinner!
10/10!!!! We had a lovely meal under marque in the pouring rain. The staff went over the beyond to make sure we were comfortable in very trying conditions! It was great fun and delicious as always! Thank you so much for basically being AWESOME!
Despite the torrential rain it was a lovely day.The staff worked through a storm and kept smiling. It is always a lovely time.Love the pizzas!
Really good to be back in a pub setting. We loved the food but sadly had to cut our visit short as it rained and we were freezing. Not your fault. Wish I’d booked under the marquee now!
Sadly we never got to sit down, we arrived and waited by the chalk board as requested, a waitress walked past us 4 times each time carrying nothing and didn’t even acknowledge us. So after waiting 10mins outside we decided to leave. Not impressed
Far too expensive, very little menu choice, we weren't greeted at the gate, people smoking next us while eating pregnant woman and child present!
Lovely roast enjoyed by all of us. Very helpful staff. Shame it was so cold but you have no control over the weather! Thank you will be back.
A great place to go if you have a family.
Attended on a quiet day during the pandemic. Procedures were adhered to, good service and lovely food
Children’s serving are too small. 5 chicken nuggets and 10 chips with a scoop of peas is not filling enough for two 7 years olds and therefore overpriced too. Fighting cocks offer two sized children’s portions at two different prices and yo7 might consider this. The steak and ale pie with all the trimmings was fantastic. We will definitely visit again but not order for this children and instead feed them at home then come to you for an adult meal and the children can have ice cream and play in your lovely park.
Great Pub !
Staff were friendly and helpful and anything we asked for (napkins, straws etc) was provided really quickly despite the pub being busy. Playground is fab as always, my son loved it! However, the food wasn't as good as we'd hoped... VEGAN FOOD: it was a shock to see that what used to be a really vegan-friendly place (last time I came, there was an entire vegan menu) is now offering only one vegan option on the menu (good job I like risotto, but the portion was pretty skimpy). When I asked a waiter if there were other options I was told that the kitchen could do a vegan pizza but this wasn't advertised on the menu, and there were no "V" markers on the ordering app so it wasn't easy to spot the veggie/vegan options at all. Doesn't have to be complicated dishes for veggies or vegans, just a vegan burger option would be an easy way to offer more choice. KIDS MENU: it would have been great to see a veggie sausage or veggie nugget options on here, and perhaps something a bit healthier too - I ordered a burger without the burger in order to get something green into my son's meal, as the only veggie kids option was a plate of chips!! My friends, who are all meat eaters, were also not all that impressed with the food on offer - they said there didn't seem to be a lot of choice. So a mixed bag! We did all enjoy our experience overall.
Great set up and very covid safe! Sunday lunch as awesome as ever!
