About The Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn has the coast in its soul: thanks to its fabulous location in Thornham Village. Light dishes and grazing at lunchtime gives way to ‘gastro dining’ in the evening, so whatever your mood, whatever the occasion, there’s fabulous food to suit. We even recommend drinks for each dish, often from our fantastic local producers.
We’re in the midst of Norfolk’s Royal Coast, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, washed in the glorious North Norfolk coastal light. Step inside and you’ll find yourself very welcome: our team sets out to make every guest enjoy a real sense of belonging, whether they are with us for a light lunch or a longer stay.
Our menus make the most of local produce, changing as the seasons turn so diners can enjoy the very best tastes of Norfolk at every time of year. In summer months enjoy the sea air as you dine outside in one of our pavilions that always are a great occasion with friends and family, and when the nights draw in and there’s a chill in the air you can enjoy a winter lunch and a good ale with us, warming yourself by our crackling fire.
This eleven-bedroom hotel is the perfect retreat for people who want to pull on wellies in the day and something more elegant at night. Because if you enjoy the matchless combination of chef-led cuisine, elegant accommodation and miles and miles of marvellous coast to explore, we think you’ll absolutely love The Chequers Inn.
Friendly prompt service with delicious food. Lovely garden area with efficient one way system through pub.

Enjoyable family meal
Excellent meal looking forward to goong back
Food was great - but it would be useful to know in advance whether you are going to sit inside or outside.
A very pleasant luncheon, particularly under the present circumstances.
Delicious meal great service
Very pleasant staff just was really disorganised. We had one wine glass as they have ran out so we had to wait for them to give us another. The mackerel was over cooked and mushy, the lobster firecracker was just covered in think tasteless cheese. The chips were a brown colour it looked like they had been cooked and cooked again. Really disappointed.
We sat in the Pavillion and were very well looked after..will definately be back! Thank you
I have emailed with details
Disappointed in the very limited menu , which makes mockery of your words about Chequers Inn. No real starter or sweets options, the food we had was excellent which is why we were so disappointed not to have more choices.
Easy to use booking system in these virtual times and added confidence as received a further confirmation prior to visit. Staff welcoming and friendly, gave us a cosy table as we’d requested. Food lovely and portion sizes perfect too. A beautifully cooked skirt steak from the Josper oven and yummy lobster tagliatelle. Thank you .
A cut above the average pub food. Particularly good with grilled meat and fish. Very nice server.
Nice meal, service very good, thank you
This was a lovely way to have our first meal out for months. Loved the sharing box. The lady who served us was cheerful and friendly and put us at ease and we plan to return as soon as we can.
A really lovely evening. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. Excellent service - drinks and food arrived very promptly. We felt really privileged to dine in one of the pavilions - such a treat - really beautiful with all the fairy lights twinkling above us. Food was delicious.
Very disappointed on arrival to find out our pre-booking of a pavilion was not honoured. I specifically called up a couple of days earlier to ensure one would be available and was told yes. When we arrived we were told they were for larger bookings only so we had to sit elsewhere, only to find one pavilion had a party of 5 (we had 4 in our party) and the other one was empty the entire time we were there. Very disappointing.
Excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere
The staff were lovely and our food arrived very quickly. The venue itself was pleasant, spotlessly clean and not too crowded. It was nice to be able to sit indoors. The menu was quite limited, especially desserts.
Excellent food with fab service.
Excellent service and delicious food. Really enjoyed our evening
Lovely lunch, great service. Thank you!
The website booking made no reference to the tables being booked outside. So we were not prepared for eating outside. This needs to be made clearer. The food and service was very good
It was our second visit after a fairly poor first one. We put the first down to a drunk waiter and rebooked a year later. We liked the pavilion which was nice and cosy. However, we thought the quality of the food was lacking. I paid £25 for the smallest half lobster I think I’ve ever seen. The kids’ meatballs were basically tasteless. My wife had a ribeye that was so full of fat that at lest half was inedible. Overall, we like the setting and the setup but the kitchen is well short of where it needs to be. Very disappointed with the quality of the food and with two poor visits now and lots of competition, we will unfortunately not be back.
Booked a table for lunch after looking t reviews and the menu online, we had already decided what we were going to have before we even got to the restaurant, my wife the sea bass and myself the Venison. Very disappointed when we arrived to be given a menu on a piece of A4 paper nothing like what is online. It never said anything online about a different lunch menu. However the food we ordered was lovely and the staff were very friendly and courteous.
