About The Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn has the coast in its soul: thanks to its fabulous location in Thornham Village. Light dishes and grazing at lunchtime gives way to ‘gastro dining’ in the evening, so whatever your mood, whatever the occasion, there’s fabulous food to suit. We even recommend drinks for each dish, often from our fantastic local producers.
We’re in the midst of Norfolk’s Royal Coast, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, washed in the glorious North Norfolk coastal light. Step inside and you’ll find yourself very welcome: our team sets out to make every guest enjoy a real sense of belonging, whether they are with us for a light lunch or a longer stay.
Our menus make the most of local produce, changing as the seasons turn so diners can enjoy the very best tastes of Norfolk at every time of year. In summer months enjoy the sea air as you dine outside in one of our pavilions that always are a great occasion with friends and family, and when the nights draw in and there’s a chill in the air you can enjoy a winter lunch and a good ale with us, warming yourself by our crackling fire.
This eleven-bedroom hotel is the perfect retreat for people who want to pull on wellies in the day and something more elegant at night. Because if you enjoy the matchless combination of chef-led cuisine, elegant accommodation and miles and miles of marvellous coast to explore, we think you’ll absolutely love The Chequers Inn.
Very clear Covid-19 protocol strictly applied by staff .
Absolutely loved our dining experience in the pods. Perfect for a special occasion and great that we could have the dog with us after a walk on the beach. Toasty warm and great atmosphere. Thank you - will definitely be back!!
The food was delicious, enjoyed our 3 course dinners on both evenings. The service was very good and every consideration has been taken for being Covid safe. Loved the private gazebos in the garden. We enjoyed our drink in one of them, beautifully set up and with heating. Definitely recommend this restaurant
Excellent food and service.
really good staff, food great, superb area, ate in the pavilions totally isolated warm and plenty of room loved it.
Excellent food and wine
Very good food, lovely environment
Stayed for my boyfriends birthday and had a meal in the restaurant, everything was excellent.
Excellent room and very pleased with the service. We felt very safe with your Covid prevention restrictions. Breakfast was superb. We’ll Be back!
Amazing meal and service at The Chequers
Overall food was good, but one rib eye streak was 50% fat and adults food very over priced for portion size. Shame as good be so good. Just better food quality control and pricing should be seriously reviewed.
More variations of the dinner Menu is needed particularly for those staying more than a couple of nights, a varying dish of the day perhaps?
Having had an email exchange advising we had to eat outside we were pleasantly surprised to have a table inside. The food was superb and staff brilliant.
COVID safety dealt with nicely. Good regulations in place. Felt totally safe. Evening meal was OK, pricey. Pork loin was under cooked but sorted quickly. Breakfast was fantastic. Great produce and cooked perfectly. Rooms were lovely. Had a.2 night stay in the Hazel room.
Been visiting this pub over many years, we were so disappointed. Food menu was dreadful, had a drink and left, won’t be visiting again
We received a warm welcome when we arrived. The food was amazing. Would definitely recommend having a meal here. Will definitely book again!
Best roast dinner eaten for a long time. Tender, moist & very flavoursome. Covid management excellent, felt very safe. Will definitely recommend and rebook. Thank you for such a wonderful meal
Enjoyable evening. Would come again if we lived in Norfolk.
Gosh where to start! Table booked for 7.15pm. Food arrives an hour later! Food cold! Food sent back reappears 15mins later. Steak very ordinary with soggy thrice cooked chips.Venison ok but missing garlic after being sent back. Web site promises so much but unfortunately doesn’t deliver. The waitresses were lovely and seemed embarrassed at the situation which from the sounds of other tables was widespread. What a pity that knowing the kitchen was behind we weren’t given bread or anything to help the time go by. The management need to sort this out as there are better establishments up and down the coast. Our bill for 2 drinks each and average food would have been just under £80.00 which was robbery. The waitress agreed to half the food bill which we agreed to.On reflection this was still poor value. We have had some fantastic meals here over the years so please sort yourselves out!
Unable to rate atmosphere due to covid.staff excellent. Food good but limited range of choices.
Our holiday local and doesn’t let us down
We had a really enjoyable family lunch yesterday at the Chequers. We had booked one of the outside pavilions, which really added to the atmosphere (it was my birthday). Food was delicious and service was excellent. Cant recommend it highly enough and will definitely be back!
We ordered firebreads with pimento fries, which conjured up something very exotic, but the Firebread was basically pizza and the fries were simply salted with no essence of pepper in sight. The pizza toppings were delicious mind you! Our Lavender choux bun was missing the lavender! Some vegetarian and vegan options would have been appreciated (I’m not vegetarian, but am trying to eat less meat) - I asked the waitress who recommended contacting them in advance if bringing a veggie diner in future. The wasps were dealt with very well with the citronella candles! Lovely courtyard!
