About The Chequers at Crowle
Country pub specialising in home-cooked Anglo-French food. Real ales, fine wines & premium brand spirits served in a warm friendly atmosphere.
Excellent pub. Great food & service.
Sunday lunch for a family occasion and as always, a lovely meal with great staff in comfortable surroundings. We have never had a bad meal or experience here. Ollie manages the pub to a high standard and is always friendly and welcoming. No hesitation to recommend The Chequers.
Service was not upto contemporary standards expected. It was obviously casual staff who knew little about attentive good service, nevertheless it was just about ok. This was unfortunate for the front of house manager was excellent as was the food. Simple attention details would go a long way: When we order, make a note of who orders what, so the customer is not asked several times who is having what, when cutlery is brought bout and when the food arrives. Use one server per table, so they get to know the customers. Preempt that the customer may want to select a wine and offer the wine list before asking what would you like to drink.
Excellent - always book here when visiting relatives in the area and it never disappoints. Love it.
Lovely food, good beer and good service
Food was good, priced fairly. However what I felt was a big negative was the service. Normally you are looked after by 1 maybe 2 servers in a restaurant. On Saturday night I think we had maybe 5/6 different people come to the table. 1 person to show to table, 1 person came over to take drinks which we weren't ready for, then a different girl then came to take them. We then have another person take our food order and then another person to check how the food was and clear the plates. I think there may have even been someone different who took our dessert order. There didn't seem to be much structure within the dining room between the staff and this inhibited our dining experience. It didn't feel there was much of a personal touch or repoir with the server because we had some many different people. Personally I think the dining room should be split into sections with one server only looking after a few tables rather than everyone buzzing around not knowing what's going on.
We had a fantastic meal as usual at Chequers. The food was excellent, the serving staff patient and professional. Would highly recommend.
Pleasant staff, great food and relaxed ambience. Would definitely come back. Next time it’ll be for an evening meal! Glad I found your lovely gastropub!
Lovely family Sunday Lunch in a relaxed (if a bit busy) atmosphere. Superb food, highly recommended.
We came on the night your computer system crashed...the staff were amazing, remained calm, professional, made us feel very welcome...despite the fact the place was extremely busy and they were under immense pressure. Great atmosphere, drinks and delicious, beautifully presented food.
excelent meal out with my sister, great choice of dishes available, possibly too much for lunch as it took us ages to decide and we could easily have eaten it all :-) will definately be back
Food mainly very good but roast pork overcooked(dry)
Not quite the usual high standard no granary bread served with starter of liver parfait and 40min wait between starter and main course..but this is still a good quality establishment
Lovely food . Excellent service by Ollie and his team .
Good seasonal choice of dishes. Bar area extremely busy although restaurant was calmer
Amazing service and yummy food
A nearly full car park on a week-night in January is good evidence of a popular pub! Nicely fitted out, this pub has a good feel to it and a buzzy atmosphere. The service is efficient and friendly without being over the top and the quality of the food is much higher than you might expect from a pub menu. I had Pheasant Cordon Bleu which was a tender breast of pheasant, filled with cheese and then wrapped in Parma Ham and breadcrumbs, and it was delicious. My companions all had steaks which they described as amongst the best they have had (and none of us will see 60 again!), so high praise indeed. The chocolate and orange tart I had for my pudding was, as Michael Winner might have said, “historic”. Well worth a visit and we shall be back,
Lovely place to eat, food was hot and tasty.
We had a great Works Xmas Party on 21st December. Food was superb and service was exemplary. Thank you.
Great food and excellent service.
