About The Cellar Restaurant
The Cellar is a unique and one of a kind restaurant situated in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife. An area with a rich fishing heritage and traditions. Over the centuries The Cellar was used as a Cooperage, building barrels for salting the local fleets Herring catch. A fishermen’s store and even a smoke house.
Reopened in 2014 by Local Lad Billy Boyter, his ethos at The Cellar is simple. To source and promote the best local and Scottish produce throughout the seasons. Making good use of the surroundings by foraging local seaweeds and other edible plant species.
The cooking at The Cellar is modern and simple, but still very much in touch with our past traditions and heritage. Every effort is put into keeping old practices alive such as drying, fermenting, salting and smoking. These are all important elements in our cooking.
I was delighted! Every dish was exquisite! A party on the tounge! I'll foo back as often as possible. Loved the relaxed atmosphere as well.

The service was outstanding. Erica was a knowlegeable and engaging sommelier and host. We felt very welcome and taken care of. We are visiting Scotland for 10 days and chose to spend 3 days here in Anstruther because of the Cellar. We learned about the restaurant from the Visit Scotland website's list of Michelin restaurants in Scotland. It was an awesome and relaxed experience and we loved it. Also, the service wasn't stodgy like some higher end places. Top marks for Billy, Erica, amd all the other folks spending 12 hours a day to make such a great dining experience. Many thanks.
Absolutely fabulous dinner the other night. Every element of the experience was superb - the food is incredible and we really struggled to pick our favourite course - they were all contenders! We have been fortunate enough to eat in quite a few top restaurants and the quality of food in the Cellar is right up there. We also thought the wine pairings were inspired - the sparkling mead and fermented Kiwi sauvignon particularly. The service we received from Trish and Erika was also first rate - it is obvious that the Cellar team all really work together and believe 100% in what they are doing. Thank you all very much and we are already looking forward to our next visit.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Cosy atmosphere with friendly helpful staff. Food was a great mix of seasonal and locally sourced, serve with beautifully matched wines. Would definitely recommend and look forward to coming back.

Exceptional food, attentive and friendly service from the waitresses who had great knowledge of the food served at each of the 5 courses. The ambience of this cosy restaurant is first class. Absolutely 5* all round and would highly recommend.
Amazing, have dinned at a few Mitchelin starred restaruants now and the Cellar is without a doubt a worthy contender. The food combinations with the flights of wine were tantilising and the presentation and service was spot on, not too intrusive but attentive not always easy to do, well done all. Eaten in most of the Michelin star restaurants in Scotland. This has to be one of best. Faultless service, food and ambiance. An absolute delight of an evening.

Second time eating here. We enjoyed it so much we came back. The food was excellent and the theatre of presentation matched it more than equally. The girls at the front of House are welcoming and friendly while also being respectful to you. I firmly believe that you can’t fault any of the food presented and how so many flavours can be infused in the dishes is amazing. We will be back again and look forward to eating here again. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion to eat good food. Nothing to think about just book it up and go and enjoy a special meal.
We had a very calm, peaceful and enjoyable evening. The restaurant building had lots of character and was clean, comfortable and warm. The staff were friendly, yet very respectful, they gave clear information about each course and were very attentive. The food was very interesting and had great variety of tastes in small amounts, yet by the end of the evening we were comfortably full. Very accommodating to dietary requests. Thank you!
