About The Cellar Restaurant
The Cellar is a unique and one of a kind restaurant situated in the heart of the East Neuk of Fife. An area with a rich fishing heritage and traditions. Over the centuries The Cellar was used as a Cooperage, building barrels for salting the local fleets Herring catch. A fishermen’s store and even a smoke house.
Reopened in 2014 by Local Lad Billy Boyter, his ethos at The Cellar is simple. To source and promote the best local and Scottish produce throughout the seasons. Making good use of the surroundings by foraging local seaweeds and other edible plant species.
The cooking at The Cellar is modern and simple, but still very much in touch with our past traditions and heritage. Every effort is put into keeping old practices alive such as drying, fermenting, salting and smoking. These are all important elements in our cooking.
Given the constraints of pandemic conditions, we feel The Cellar gave of its very best. The ambience was exceptionally conducive to a relaxed fine dining experience. Service was very unrushed making for full appreciation of a stunning menu. Considering the restaurant was having to close down, again, albeit temporarily, we feel The Cellar had done everything within its control to provide a memorable and exemplary occasion.
Fantastic overall dining experience with very friendly and attentive staff in a lovely setting. The star of the show for ourselves was the final course outstanding. We will definitely be returning when things are back to normal.
An absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. Five stars all around, we will definitely be back in the very near future.
The Cellar is one of the best restaurants in the UK . Billy and Patricia make a fantastic team.
An absolute pleasure to dine at The Cellar. Never intimidating like many Michelin restaurants. Service was superb. Outstanding value.
Loved the whole experience. The food was exquisite and the service fantastic. This was our second visit to this fabulous restaurant. It definitely will not be our last! We are looking forward to our next visit already.
The food was absolutely faultless and hugely enjoyable. Every course made us smile. Covid rules affected the atmosphere but no blame to the staff who did a wonderful job.
Delighted to try the lunch tasting menu at the Cellar . It was a delicious flow of food to tantalise the tastebuds with sensational flavours from start to finish. We will look forward to a return visit in the not too far off future
Food was incredible. The monkfish was phenomenal. Personally not a big fan of the carrot and bergamot granita but that’s personal preferences Service impeccable. We love coming here and will definitely be back, I’ve been raving about it to all our friends
It was perfect for a special occasion - we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Cellar.
Absolutely delicious, well presented lunch..lovely
Friendly staff, warm atmosphere, great food.
Delicious 😋 meal We would like to come back. All the best in your shut down. Hang on in there! What times we are living in. Anne and Raymond Brydon
Wonderful tasting menu and wine flight. Staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable, which added to the fantastic experience. Hope to come back again in the future.
We very much enjoyed our tasting menu lunch, the food was amazing, as was the service. We were, however, given a bill with dinner menu charges, but once we alerted the server to this, it was rectified immediately. We will definitely return.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon and outstanding lunch.
We enjoyed an excellent tasting lunch at the Cellar in Anstruther. The food was very well presented and every course was delightful. Staff were very attentive and COVID measures were all in place. A little gem in the East Neuk of Fife and definitely worth a visit.
Another great dining experience at the Cellar..
I had an excellent evening. There is nothing bad to say. It was such a special evening - food, service, ambiance ...the whole package was superb.
Lovely meal, but portions could Maybe be slightly larger. Food was excellent and inventive. Will come again.
Excellent food, drink and service. Well worth the trip
We were so fortunate to take advantage of a last minute cancellation and celebrated my wife's birthday with a culinary feast. We had no idea that it was a tasting menu so to be able to sample a little bite of the very best of Scottish produce was a real treat. My stand out dish had to be the Ox Cheek in 30 day aged Parmesan with Tomato Truffle. At least I thought that was my favourite until the Monk Fish with baby Turnip and Arbroath Smokie sauce arrived and to finish we had a wonderful daub of Venison with baby turnips, BBQ Beetroot , smoked Yoghurt and Tree Spinach. This was perfect as the weather turns autumnal. Sweet was a deliciously delicate meringue filled with chocolate sorbet and a raspberry base with meadowsweet mouse, topped with raindrops of honey puree. The service was excellent in its simplicity and although social distancing gave the dining room a slightly cavernous feel it didn't dent the overall dining experience.
