The Cauldron is coming to NYC due to high demand and the necessity to add a touch of British branded magic to American shores.
About The Cauldron
The Cauldron is the magical cocktail making experience that took London by storm with over 15,000 wannabe Witches and Wizards joining us for potions and elixirs in just five months!
No effort was made to make the place look part of the experience sadly, including the waiters. They were very nice, but honestly, you missed a trick here. It was basically a make your own cocktail in robes.
What a fun way to live out my magical dreams! The cocktails were delicious and so much fun to make. And the wand tricks were an extra special touch!
Good, but my table have some problems at that time.
Ultimately, I feel this was a half-realized production. The promotional video and concept made this look like an incredible experience. Unfortunately, I feel as if the entire operation fell short. I'm a professional server at one of the top restaurants in NYC, serving high-end clientele and frequently working top parties in the industry. For me and my friend (not in the service industry at all), the drinks were merely sub-par. None of the three drinks we were "served" stood out taste-wise. The flavors were too muted and understated and the cocktails were not well-balanced. I would highly recommend going much more bold choices with your flavors. Subtle moves impress noone. Bold choices and strong flavors, whether it's to your taste or not, illicit some sort of reaction. Mediocrity is not want you're after at this level. Go big and bold. Fail. Learn. Subtlety is boring. For the atmosphere, it was ok. The music was definitely the strong point. The capes were not sized appropriately. I could not comfortably fit into mine and my friend was swimming in his. Not to mention they were polyester, a non-breathable fabric, and it was way too stuffy in the room. Very uncomfortable. The decorations were cute but too craft store for both my friend and my taste. He is a designer and does flower arrangements for Martha Stewart Magazine and concerts like Florence and the Machine. We both agreed the decorations were on the right path, yet basic cost-effective upgrades could have been made. The room felt like a pop-up. It was not a fully immersive experience. The actual prop interaction with the wand was and excellent concept, but only half-realized. I've seen technology with wands that can change television channels and volume with a certain gesture. Yet we quickly learned the trick to the plastic-tasting mead was simply tapping the "c" (the last letter in magic). It's 2018. Think bigger :) The service was on-point. No complaints there. In fact, the staff saved the experience for my friend and I. I would gladly hire any of those people to work for me. They were some of the most hospitable, kindest, patient people I've met in their position. MAJOR kudos to them. Down-side was the amount of work the bartender had to do for me. I realize the target group for this pop-up includes those with little to no experience bartending whereas I do this at high-end fine dining 5 nights a week, but I felt thwarted in my progress when I had to ask the bartender to intervene. Going back to the cocktails, I would highly suggest NEW COCKTAILS that can be more self-reliant. So many missed opportunities here. The "WOW" factor would have been so much more special if I could have done it all myself. And it is possible. (Think melting cotton candy to add the sugar to a martini or making your own simple syrup with an edible chemical reaction process). I would not do this again as is and actually dissuaded friends from going to this pop-up. Again, Everyone I showed the promotional to agreed this was brilliant. However, after experiencing it first-hand, I think there is a lot of room for improvement.
Loved the experience. Felt like there could have been one more element added. Once we were in it we wanted more. Since we are just drinking perhaps a power snack could be incorporated. Sadly there was no time or where to go with our extra purschased drinks so we had to leave them. I believe it was thee opening weekend so it could be a bit rough around the edges. Still completely loved potions class!!!!
Upset there was no fairy dust which was part of the potion, thought it was disorganized and most of the employees were unfriendly. Plus the drinks were a let down
Our main server was very rude; he chastised our party multiple time for “not following directions” that we had never been given. Additionally, because the seating before us ran over, we weren’t let in until 9:30 (30 minutes after our reservation was supposwd to begin) even though we arrived promptly at 9:00, yet we were still kicked out at 10:45 — the same time our reservation was initially scheduled to end. Further, I purchased my tickets online ahead of time, and we were charged an extra $30, which none of the servers could explain.
It was a little disorganized when we got there. We arrived on time as requested but they didn't check us in until 10 mins later. They couildn't find my friend's registration. I think these were issues due to it being opening weekend. Otherwise the potions were fun to make and the staff was very friendly.
Overall service and atmosphere was amazing! Drinks weren't very good- either too sugary/sweet or overly tart. Hiccups like reservation not found and drink mix-ups like the wrong drink being dispensed detracted from the experience but the staff were quick to respond. The concept and presentation of everything was really well done and overall it was a good event. I would say that the staff should check in with people in line that are waiting since we waited almost 15 minutes past our initial reservation time before being seated but we were never updated with what was going on in that time. Revisit the drinks a little to give more variety in terms of taste and tighten up on some of the service related things and I think this will be really successful!
The experience is great for those who really appreciate HP universe. But naming it a "class on molecular cocktail making" is misleading. You follow the steps but don't know what you're really making and why it changes color, etc. The "potion master" was not explaining much and barely interacting except when necessary. Overall it was fun but I wish I'd be able to learn more.
The gargoyle and magic box were not working for our table so the wait staff had to keep bringing over the supplies rather than us experiencing the magic. I wish we had gotten our money back, I was that upset. The reason we did this, to experience the magic, was completely ruined because of the malfunction and the staff did not offer to make it right. I’m not sure that I would recommend to a friend after that experience.
More drinks and fire for the value
Amazing time! Super cool! Will definitely be back with friends
Fun experience! Wish the pricing had been clearer - would be nice for automatic gratuity to be included in the ticket price rather than a surprise at the end
Our time at The Cauldron was a lot of fun, and the staff are very friendly. The drinks were delicious, had interesting flavors, and mixing them yourselves is a unique experience—would highly recommend that you visit.
My friends and I had a great time at this event! It was fun making all of the magical drinks plus they were delicious.
We had an amazing time! Ever since the London location was opened up, we had been wanted to experience the Cauldron. When we heard the NYC location was opening up, we had to go, so were happy to be able to come on one of the first days!
Had a great experience with Wes as our potion master! Each drink was delicious and a lot of fun to concoct, and the attention to detail was amazing. Definitely coming back!
Amazing experience, and not only are the staff members extremely professional but they also make you feel very comfortable :) keep up the great work!
The staff were super friendly and we were greeted like true wizards and witches. Love the space and music, delicious cocktails that are super fun to make.
Potion drinks could be a bit more "fun with chemistry". Some of the decor could be polished up a little more, thinking of the gargoyles. We could have had quicker service response when we finished a step of the potions. All in all it was a great time!!!
So much fun. Drinks are surprisingly strong but taste so yummy!
