About The Cat's Pyjamas - Sheffield
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi.
After spotting a gap in the market, Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the first Cat's Pyjamas in Headingley, Leeds. Our menu has been crafted by our talented chef team who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re combining the energy from our bustling kitchen with vibrant decor to evoke the colours, chaos and craziness of India and create a fun, easy-going, dynamic atmosphere.
We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Sheffield!
Food is good. Service is extremely slow. Took 50 mins for food to arrive from time of ordering.
When first seated drinks order was a little slow but once we were served absolutely great service for the rest of the evening but food and drink Great night Thanks Tony
Out of 10 Starters 7 Mains 9 Service 5 Overall 7
Seems odd to receive this when you’re closing down the night after our visit! The food was poor but the service was good
Table booked for 50th birthday celebration for my wife at 7.30pm, arrived early, ordered drinks , food order taken but then it went all down hill. We waited 1 hour 15 minutes for a starter which never came. Other people were complaining about the wait. We approached the waitress who was apologetic who never the less did not check the delay or resolve the wait or inform us of time the food was going to be ready. We left the restaurant feeling very disappointed and it spoilt the birthday evening. Having spoken to other people they have had similar experience. Sadly we will not return or recommend, poor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was such a shame that the food took so long to come and that we had to wait for certain dishes whilst others were already served. Just felt a bit dis jointed however table waiters was really really nice and made up forthe poor timing in the kitchen
Not a particularly friendly welcome by the front of house. However, waiters were friendly. Our starts and drinks came on time but the main courses were incredibly late- once we asked where they were, we were told they were low staffed tonight and only had two chefs in. It would have been a good idea to be told that we might have to wait a bit longer than usual earlier on to prepare us. Main course dishes very disappointing. Sag paneer- tasteless, lile paneer in a spinach soup. Rice was not pilau- more like long grain. Popdaoms broken up and pickles thin and watery. Deep fried okra was good. We complained and the waiter was very gracious about our complaint and gave us 50% of the meal and free round of drinks so that was very good of them. However, front of house woman who took our money was very unfriendly, took our cards and swiped them without asking. Overall, very disappointing food and service. However, nice atmosphere and male waiters did their best in the circumstances. Would not return and would not recommend.
Too little panni (spiced water) for the panni Puri. Need enough to at least half fill the puffed puri. Peshwari naan was too thick in areas. Otherwise great meal. Could do with more chicken mains options such as dansak, chicken saag or chicken methi (fenugreek). Aloo Ticki (Chaat would benefit from some tamarind sauce on the top. Lived in India for 2 years and loved the street food. Pistachio kulfi with faludha was a favourite
Loved it. Great food and such good portion sizes. We will definitely be returning.
Your food offer is a bit disappointing. We tried 3 of the "main course" dishes - which turned out tot be Chicken in a mild yellow sauce, Chicken in a sweet red sauce, and fish in a brown/beige sauce. All sauces bland and under spiced. The combination of lumps of chicken/fish and bland sauce became very boring after a few mouthfuls. Shame there are no visible veg - a bit of squash, some onions, or mushrooms etc to offset the monotony. The various sides - naans, rice, bhaajis, were OK, as was the beer. I think the "About" description is somewhat fanciful, for what is basically a pared down Indian restaurant serving bland food that seems to appeal to gullible millennials (the majority of the customers on the night)
Brilliant food and service was exquisite
Really tasty food (very tasty vegan options). Shame the Sheffield branch doesn't have any vegan naan breads available (as some branches do). Particularly recommend the vegan version of Aloo Cutlet Chaat and the Railway Potato Curry. Also felt overcharged for the Fourpure Juicebox beer - the menu said £5.90 for 500ml but when it arrived it was only 330ml but the price was the same on the bill. If we had known it would only be 330ml would have chosen a Jaipur which is a pint (i.e. over 500ml) and cheaper at only £5.60.
The food was delicious, with plenty of gluten and dairy free options.
Really goo, really enjoyed it
Really great food, some of the best tasting Indian food I’ve had. Lovely!
Redeemed! Paneer dish was lovely and we enjoyed a good range of veggie sides and starters. Five stars for this visit. Much better than our last visit- but PLEASE take the ‘butter chicken/butter veggie alternative’ off the menu or improve the recipe (tastes like tinned tomato soup). We will be back (avoiding the butter anything).
Food excellent- service very good. A few more mains on the main would be good.
Memorable for all the wrong reasons Nutshell: go for parenting, bad business lesson, thirst and tomato soup chicken. Extended version: Greeted by the owner baby in arm which was perfectly fine. Her sitting at the table 10 minutes later asking if we'd heard about administration and her declaring the loophole she used was totally legal to write off debts was rather odd, as was swearing every third word to her baby - were not here to judge parenting but don't visit if you don't want to babysit: 5 sets of customers soothed a baby whilst Mum/owner was outside drinking or 'serving'. Back to business; after going thirsty and hungry we had to check we'd not been forgotten about, after 50 minutes we were promised to be next (we were fourth and after three tables that entered after us) Asked twice for poppadum plates and old glasses to be removed whilst empty tables were being cleared. The 'butter chicken' honestly tasted exactly like spiced tomato soup?! All in all an odd and disappointing experience as my friend was actually THE biggest advocate for the company prior to our Sheffield visit The spar next door would probably be a more pleasing culinary experience
Delicious food with excellent flavours. Can't wait to go again and try more items on the menu.
Very average food and poor value for money. I suppose it is what these restaurants expect if they open up on Ecclesall Road. The bad news is we won’t be going back, Still looking for a good quality Indian restaurant and good value for money.
Great food but could have been cleaner!
The food was great. Even taking into account the fact that you were phenomenally busy, the service was appalling. Our drinks order didn’t arrive. Our starter was partially thrown over us. One of the dishes was cold. The main course arrived an hour and a half after we sat down. The waitress forgot to bring the rice we ordered and didn’t hang around to check if we needed cutlery etc. We really enjoyed the food and will come again. Not sure if this was an off day or just a particular member of staff who isn’t up to the job.
Poor service, staff seemed to forget about our rice and bringing the bill over leaving us waiting for 45 minutes after our meal. Staff appeared stressed and some not very polite.
Very understaffed so took an hour to get main course. Food was good
