About The Cat's Pyjamas - Sheffield
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi.
After spotting a gap in the market, Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the first Cat's Pyjamas in Headingley, Leeds. Our menu has been crafted by our talented chef team who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re combining the energy from our bustling kitchen with vibrant decor to evoke the colours, chaos and craziness of India and create a fun, easy-going, dynamic atmosphere.
We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Sheffield!
Service was a bit slow - not enough staff for a very busy night. But still a very enjoyable visit and would recommend.
Great food lovely staff nothing was to much trouble we were a party of 8 one of whom was late so ordered 10 mins after everyone else but his food still arrived with ours. Great value for money. 😁👍🏽🙏🏽
We went to the Cat's Pyjamas for our work Christmas meal. The food and atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Unfortunately, the service was very poor. As our party was 14 people, I was asked to complete a spreadsheet before arrival outlining our menu choices. However, when we arrived the waiter was unaware of this and tried to take our order, causing a delay. The same happened again at dessert. No dessert was offered and then a waiter eventually came to take our order before I had to again remind them that our order had been submitted days earlier. There was also a delay in the bill arriving meaning it didn't arrive until 3 hours from the time our table was booked. This organisation/ service was disappointing as the food and atmosphere was great. They perhaps struggled dealing with a large party and I'm sure it can easily be rectified in future.
Wonderful staff, friendly atmosphere and amazing food. Definitely will be returning
nice food great atmosphere brilliant service
Food was okay. Mains were brought while we still had starter plates, so had to clear our own for the waitress to put the food down. Butter chicken was a bit odd, like chicken in tomato soup. There were no desserts available, which having been given the dessert menu, was a bit of a surprise. The free children’s meal was not taken off the bill, so we had to ask for it to be removed. £50 for two with okay food and a drink each feels very expensive. Is second time we have been, having tried in opening week, but probably won’t come back i’m afraid.
Great food and great service
Brilliant food - the worse service I’ve received in a restaurant, Jamie “nosurname” who was terrible on the phone and refused to give me his last name and then refered to himself as Jamie nosurname disgusting attitude to people with allergies and prebokings. Although the food was good I wouldn’t recommend due to horrible disrespectful service.
We had a lovely evening and were most impressed with the front of house staff and extremely happy with the quality of the food that we had. Thank you.
We came when you first opened and really enjoyed the food. But last night we came again and ordered almost exactly the same meals but they were all very different from our first time. Pickle tray and poppadoms also arrived after our starters, had to remind them for our drinks when starters arrived. Then half way through our meal we ordered another 2 drinks that never turned up. Felt understaffed and rushed. Did not enjoy it like the first time we came.
Considering it wasn’t busy, service was slow. Took about 10mins for order to be taken. Poppadoms to start was forgotten so went straight to the mains. Quite noisy inside, not a place for conversation. Food otherwise ok although can’t say it was anything special.
Although they were very short staffed, the two staff on duty worked very hard and did an excellent job under the circumstances. The food was excellent, I would recommend the Seabream.
Menu needs to advise of spice level, eg mild, medium, hot
Fantastic service, very friendly waiter who served us. Food was delicious, especially the butter chicken and cheese nan! Will definitely return.
Seating felt slightly cramped and like everyone was sitting on top of each other. Food was divine and very high quality for a very reasonable price. Could do with a selection of cocktails. Slightly slow to get our bill at the end of the night but I think it was a particularly busy service.
Main course very nice, had the butter chicken best naan bread ever had. Bhajis let it down, bland and floury tasting but would go again
We were a party of four on a Sunday lunchtime. The table was booked for 12.30 and there was only one other party in the establishment at the time. I was impressed with the decor of the restaurant - something a bit different for an Indian restaurant. However, the same theme was used in the toilets where I didn't think it communicated the correct level of hygiene and cleanliness. The menu is fairly short, but nevertheless the waiting time for our meals felt quite long - about 20 to 30 minutes. When the food came it was very good (we especially liked the fried okra). We thought each main was really enough for two people, so would be more likely to share if we went again. Overall a good value meal in a modern restaurant, although the service could have been a little quicker.
We loved the food. A very different experience from usual Indian restaurants. Felt the food was definitely like home cooked rather than mass produced and would certainly come again. The drinks were a little expensive in comparison to the food prices but all in all it was a great evening.
Staff were really friendly and patient with us, as 1 of our party arrived over half an hour later than the rest - they were flexible about us waiting before ordering our main courses, and then quick to get our friend a drink and a menu once she did arrive. Food was delicious, and we loved being able to take home what we couldn't finish, too! Will definitely be back!
The food was delicious - however, there weren’t many vegetarian main dishes to choose from.
Amazing meal, service, atmosphere and experience. Will be coming back for meals and takeaway again soon! Thanks for a special evening! The butter chicken was so tasty!
Loved the pan puri, gorgeous naans - light and fluffy just how I love them. Only negative is the we had to wait a while for drinks to be ordered. Staff very pleasant and polite!
could improve on quality of food
Amazing food and great atmosphere!
The food was great and the atmosphere was brill, fully booked on a Thursday night! Literally the only problem we had was slow service. We had to ask twice for our poppadoms, and ask for cutlery when our mains arrived which took a while to arrive. We asked for a bottle of prosecco but it didn’t come so we ended up just cancelling it and getting the bill instead. Everyone was really friendly, it was just a bit slow.
