About The Cat's Pyjamas - Eastgate
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi
Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the second Cat's Pyjamas in Leeds. She worked closely with Alfred Prasad, the youngest Indian chef to ever receive a Michelin star, who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Headingley & Leeds.
Always great food
Fantastic food at an affordable price.
It was OK. Food very acceptable but felt it was an expensive experience.
Lovely food, starters were a little late so we were offered some free drinks which was really nice
Food and decor is excellent and the prices are very good value for money. However on the day we visited they had run out of a few items of food and drink. Despite the fact they they wanted the table back within an hour they took 20 mins to bring us our drinks. Otherwise the experience was very good and the food/atmosphere is worth coming back for.
We had another delicious meal and great service. The only criticism was that the music was very loud. My parents, who are in their 70s and 80s, really struggled to hear and join in conversation, which was a real pity. The music, a full restaurant, and a room which is quite echoey, means that we probably would not meet up there again. This is a real shame as everything else is so good.
Would like more vegetarian choices but otherwise very enjoyable
First visit. Will definitely be returning. Fantastic young waiter who served us.
Great food, atmosphere and service - highly recommend.
Upon entering the restaurant on Thurs 11th Oct we asked to be seated downstairs, having booked a reservation you would expect to have a choice in comparison to walk-ins especially when space a lot of space is available (there was more than 4 available tables downstairs) however the host said we had to sit upstairs. Once we got upstairs there was a party of 12 men, which you can imagine was rather loud, so this wasn't ideal when knowing there was tables downstairs, however due to previously enjoying the food at the restaurant we decided to stay despite the disappointment of our reservation. After having our starters, unfortunately the night did not get any better, it got much worse as we sat waiting an hour and 20 minutes with no sign of our mains, despite the waiter saying twice it was on it's way during that time. After waiting all that time we were naturally no longer feeling hungry and feeling very frustrated therefore decided we'd finish our drinks we ordered for the mains and leave. Before getting up and leaving we found out that the delay was due to the fact we apparently got stuck behind the party of 12's order (however I find that hard to believe as couples who came in after us had been served their entire meals). We were also told a chef randomly walked out the kitchen that night, assuming this was the chef that got our order, but who knows what really happened to it. Safe to say I won't be going back anytime soon if at all. Such a shame used to love going out for a meal at The Cat's Pyjamas since moving to Leeds 2 years ago.
The food was fab as usual and the staff ace. Only issue was the card machine wasn't working, but I got a courtesy warning phone call ahead of arriving so was able to go get cash out beforehand.
Poppadoms soft? Roti un-cooked (we actually sent the roti back). No reduction in the price (we didnn't ask, but would expect a reduction on poor food). We had to wait for the new roti while the curry was getting cold? On the plus side the over worked serving staff tried there best. Its the chief's that were the problem.
Great food, lovely atmosphere. Always buzzing.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and service. A lovely evening!
Amazing food and brilliant staff. Sad to see the menu no longer has the veggie dumpling curry (sorry unsure of the name) that was my favourite, really hope you bring it back!
Lovely food, great service.
Excellent dishes you can taste the different spices. very good service. We had problem with an order mixed up. This was sorted out quickly and complementary drinks provided. Staff able to describe dishes and beers to help in the choice of menu. We will recommend the Cats Pyjamas and will book again.
Absolutely delicious food and drinks as always. But please, please bring back the tandoori salmon. It was a solid favourite of many of my friends and family who are regulars at Cats PJs!
Overall good but staff forgot two starters and a dessert then when everyone had paid and most of the party had left a new bill was produced to say drinks had been forgotten. The manager did take 50% off but it was still a huge inconvenience. I ended up paying for twice what my meal was due to people having left and second bill being produced. Such a shame as the food is excellent.
Perfect evening, amazing service and even better food! Definitely returning!
This was my second visit and it certainly won’t be my last. The food and the surroundings are just perfect for a relaxed night out
We had to wait a very long time for our food even though we only ordered 2 starter size dishes. The food was beautiful though when it arrived. The waiting staff were very polite and apologised several times for our wait. We were offered a free round of drinks and because we waited such a long time we got our food ‘ on the house ‘. Diespite the long wait we would certainly come back again. We were disappointed that because of the long weir we didn’t have time to stay and try some of the main dishes.
Staff handled our large party really well. Well done Adam Bridger
