About The Cat's Pyjamas
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi.
After spotting a gap in the market, Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the first Cat's Pyjamas in Headingley. She worked closely with Alfred Prasad, the youngest Indian chef to ever receive a Michelin star, who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re combining the energy from our bustling kitchen with vibrant decor to evoke the colours, chaos and craziness of India and create a fun, easy-going, dynamic atmosphere.
We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Headingley & Leeds.
The food was beautiful, our table was a little squashed in and we had a bit of a long wait for our starter to show up but overall everything was great, will definitely be back.
Food is incredible Nice beer too I’ll always come back :)
Starters were great but found the rest of the food overly spicy and unbalanced. Some of the service was good but silly things like the waitress first bring our mains, then another tables starters and then the sides to go with the mains..... They didn’t have any wine that was on the menu and the kids ice cream was different too. Overall not a fan.
Great restaurant. One of the best places for curry in the whole of Leeds.
The menu used to be better. No Prawn Curry now. No Paneer Tacos. No small side dishes. It's good but not as good as it was.
Such a tasty meal- loved it!
Excellent curry Service exceptional
Excellent choice of food, great customer service
Mt favourite place to go at the moment although the staff are young and a little disorganised they work hard. Always pleasant. The only gripe i have with this place is price of drink. Food is outstanding.
Arrived for reservation and we were told no draft beer left, no bottles of wine, no lassi, took or order of starters and main and we were asked would we like them all together!!! Our popadoms arrived in a little bowl for 4 people and we had to share them. Had to ask fir another drink 3 times. Food was good but rushed. £110 later, Would I return here with the amount of good curry houses around Leeds I don’t think so. Staff training on customer service is a must.
We having been wanting to eat here for a while but never quite managed to get here for one reason or other. And so glad we eventually did. The food was delicious, service friendly, and the no frills interior actually creates a nice atmosphere. A refreshingly short menu - given the list after list of very similar dishes to be found in other similar cuisine eateries - but still a good range of choice. Both the starters and mains were delicious. This place is all about the food. (I can even forgive the £4.40 for a small bottle of cobra)
Lovely food, lovely evening, we will definitely be back
I’ve been a firm fan of The Cats Pyjamas for the past year, but haven’t eaten at the Headingley one since my first visit as the one in town was always easier. I’ve been missing out though, as the butter chicken (I have the same thing every time..) was the best I’ve ever had it. Really great atmosphere for our group, friendly staff and just incredible food. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Brilliant service, excellent food and really good value for money
Tasty food and great service
Delicious food! Really amazing flavours, the best Indian I've had in a long time. The fish curry was particularly good. Quite expensive, but worth it, and portions were generous. The service was very slow and disinterested. One girl (blonde hair in a pony tail) was more engaged and friendly, but the other staff bordered on sullen and we were left ages between them coming over to check on our order/drinks. We ordered a G&T and slimline tonic was brought which we didn't ask for (and don't like!) but when we asked if there was regular tonic, she said she didn't think so and shrugged and that was that. Pretty disappointing really! So all in all, amazing food, let down by poor service - a smile and attention to detail makes all the difference!
Food was lovely and fast. Only issue. My wife is 38 weeks pregnant, it was very warm upstairs. I asked for table water when we came in, no one brought it. I asked again when our order was made, no one brought it, I asked when the food was brought out, again no joy. I had to ask a young lady cleaning the tables who did bring us some room temperature water, obviously straight from the tap. I wouldn't usually mention it but My wife is unavoidably pregnant, and bringing some cold water promptly to our table would of made our experience better.
Very good food.
So pleased to see the cat’s pjs reopened. Fab food!
Fantastic authentic food !
Expensive for portion sizes, no alcohol available? Bit sloppy letting the license slide. Bit of a wait for the food as well
A really friendly welcome despite being quite late for the reservation. We were served delicious food with much warmth and hospitality. Thank you for making the group of us feel special!
Great atmosphere and food
The new owners appear to be struggling to get the food out hot and in order but maybe this will change over the coming weeks. I hope it remains a BYO as this very much adds to its appeal.
So glad you’re open again!!
