About The Cat's Pyjamas
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi.
After spotting a gap in the market, Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the first Cat's Pyjamas in Headingley. She worked closely with Alfred Prasad, the youngest Indian chef to ever receive a Michelin star, who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re combining the energy from our bustling kitchen with vibrant decor to evoke the colours, chaos and craziness of India and create a fun, easy-going, dynamic atmosphere.
We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Headingley & Leeds.
There were a few items on the menu that were not available to order, one of them being onion bhajis which seems crazy given that onion bhajis are a staple Indian starter. They were also out of a number of beers on draft and weren't able to give us fresh chillies to throw over one of our dishes, instead, they said they didn't have any and gave us some basic dried chillies, which just isn't the same. Again, this little detail seems crazy given that fresh chilli forms the basis of a few of their dishes. The toilet seat in the ladies was broken and kept sliding off the unit when you attempted to sit on it and I had to ask for loo roll, which almost wasn't possible as the staff weren't from that particular site and so had to make a phone call to find out where the loo roll was kept. Guessing the loos aren't being checked as regularly as they should. The staff did their very best to manage the night with bits falling apart around them, but we still left feeling a bit sad as this is one of our favourite spots in our area, the food is generally excellent. It feels like the standards have dropped. Not sure we'll be going back.
Great service overall but waiter was so busy she kept forgetting stuff we’d asked for - water & glass. We’ll be back
They had run out of multiple beers and dishes then forgot part of our order. There was only one member of staff who seemed to have a clue what was going on and was firefighting for the rest of them. Most of the food was poor too. Rice clearly microwaved and curry tasted like Heinz tomato soup. Nice bhajis, mind you.
First time eating here and the food was really delicious but the service could be improved. We weren’t told until we went to order that all the dishes we wanted were unavailable. So we ordered a starter whilst we decided what to have for our main and we ended up waiting for quite a while for our order to be taken. Our starters had already come and finished by the time it was taken. It just would have been nice to be told at the beginning what dishes were available to save confusion and time. Apart from that, really cool place and vibe! The food was lovely.
Lovely food but was a bit spicier than the other restaurant in the town centre (in my opinion), just something to bear in mind, I would still definitely come back!
Fabulous, authentic & fresh tasting Indian food, delicious! The "kids eat free before 6pm" deal is great & makes for a really good value for money family meal out. Thank you!
4 of us visited for the first time in a Friday night. Unfortunately, we had to wait nearly an hour from ordering until our starters arrived. We asked staff twice to follow the order up and were eventually told that the order had been lost. While they were very fair in not charging us for them and giving a free round of drinks while we waited, there just weren’t enough staff on. Those that were were very friendly, but they were just rushed off their feet. All that said, once the food did eventually arrive, it was fresh, deliciously tasty and we really enjoyed it.
Lovely food, good atmosphere.
Lovely place, the Ocra Fries are fantastic, but sadly I often do find vegan curry dishes to be all heat not much in the way of flavour, and the Pindi Chole was that. I will definitely come again, and try other options
Food was delicious, staff were super attentive and the service was so quick. Have already recommended to all of my friends! Only negative point was that it was quite cold
Excellent food. Slightly toned down for British palate as some of the menu items are designed to be spicy if authentic.
Had a lovely time, only problem was that there were no fish mains left and we weren't informed of this at the start of the meal. Server was very lovely though.
Brilliant service, great staff Wow
Great service. Excellent beers.
Ace food, good service!
One of best restaurants in Leeds for Indian food !!
Our waitress Amani (apologies - not sure how it is spelt) was absolutely brilliant - so polite, kind and caring whilst serving us. The food was lovely and great value for money.
All was going well until I bit into something I thought was a bone, once removed, to my surprise, it was actually a very hard black square which resembled possibly a piece from a cast iron pan. I reported it to the manager who at first agreed it didn’t look like it belonged in a lamb dish. He took the piece away and didn’t return, until I demanded to know what the object was. He came back stating that the chef says it’s a cinnamon stick. I ever been so insulted and disappointed, I wasn’t the only one complaining that night. I’ve alway praised CPJs but that’s changed the manager was a waste of space. The waitresses were great and apologetic unlike from the manager.
The food is amazing an fast also the service is great an friendly. I loved the entire atmosphere of THE CAT'S PYJAMAS.
Lovely food, would go again just a shame a lot the menu wasn’t available
It’s always a pleasure to dine at Cats PJ’s. Great food and great atmosphere!
Fantastic food, great service
Another excellent meal. The only thing I’d suggest is lowering the light levels a bit upstairs to add some atmosphere. Otherwise really enjoy it as usual.
Lovely evening - great food and service sithva smile
Have eaten in both now - Leeds centre was better for the atmosphere, Headingley was far, far better for the quality of food. Thanks
