About The Cat's Pyjamas
The best Indian street food this side of Delhi.
After spotting a gap in the market, Leeds based Scottish entrepreneur Alison White set up the first Cat's Pyjamas in Headingley. She worked closely with Alfred Prasad, the youngest Indian chef to ever receive a Michelin star, who crafted our menu with tantalising aromas and fragrant flavours to create food that will wake the taste buds. We celebrate Indian street food culture - the carts and street side vendors that dot the length and breadth of India’s regions, preserving age-old recipes whilst creating urban legends. Inspired by the hawker’s local dishes, Goa’s seafood shacks and the toddy shops of Kerala, every one of our dishes is infused with the passion of India’s cooks. We’re combining the energy from our bustling kitchen with vibrant decor to evoke the colours, chaos and craziness of India and create a fun, easy-going, dynamic atmosphere.
We’re bringing the best Indian street food this side of Delhi to the heart of Headingley & Leeds.
First visit to the Headingley restaurant does not disappoint! Although the food was great, it was the knowledge and recommendations of our server, Olivia, who helped guide us to the gems on the menu. Coupled with great beer and cider, what more could you want? Will be back soon....
Excellent. Can’t wait to come again
Excellent service with friendly staff. Food was prepared well and quickly and loved the atmosphere!
Amazing as always! Would come back here time and time again!
Excellent food and really helpful friendly service. Great selection of beers and I thought the range and amount of dishes on the menu was spot on. Took my Dad out somewhere new as a Fathers Day surprise and he loved it - very happy customer! Already planning our next meal here to try the rest of the dishes on the menu!
Couldn’t fault it. Delicious food served by friendly and efficient staff. Can’t wait to go back.
Staff were great turned down air con when we asked, food was amazing, venues a bit of a squeeze compared to city centre restaurant but it’s a popular place and smaller restaurant so understandable.
Food was very good. Staff messed the order for my sister’s starter and main! But dealt with it well as they were apologetic and sorted it out promptly.
Food quality was good but main course portions are not value for money - seems expensive 'street food' at £9 a time. Atmosphere pretty noisy due to busy Sat evening. Unfortunately we felt pressured to finish our drinks and pay. We arrived on time, but because it was so busy this had a knock on effect.
Unreal food for a great price. Would definitely recommend and will be returning!
Indian food with a difference. Affordable but not cheap. Great beer selection - different on every visit. Staff friendly and helpful.
It was a little chilly as we were seated under the ac unit - we asked for it to be switched off or redirected but no one actioned this
Great vegan choices and serves decent alcohol free beer! Service was fab, food was delicious, and great value for money.
Staff were lovely. Best chicken tikka masala I’ve had in ages. Would have liked a bit more spice in the lamb rogan josh but still lovely
Love this place
We have visited the Leeds city centre site numerous times and have always been impressed with the standard of service and the consistent high quality of the food. This was our first visit to the Headingley site but based on our experience we would not return I'm afraid, the service from the moment we walked in to when we left fell short of acceptable standards at the most basic level. The waitress greeted us and said be with you in a minute, only not to be seen again. When shown to our table my wife sat down and only just missed the curry sauce which was all over the edge of the table, clearly the table hadn’t been cleaned down since the last service. We had to ask o order a drink, we weren’t told about the fryer not working until the waitress eventually took our food order, my wife’s bottle of rose wine was left on the table and not in a wine cooler on a very warm summers evening, the poppadoms arrived just before the starters and the pickle tray after the starters had arrived, there was no cutlery on the table so again had to ask for some, we ordered one of our curries to be a little spicier but when a different waiter served our main course he knew nothing about that and when he checked with the kitchen this request hadn’t been passed on, to his credit he suggested some chillies but they arrived when I was on my final couple of mouthfuls of curry. I feel all the above are minor points and in isolation would not have been an issue but when they appear all the way through the visit it certainly spoilt our dining experience, sorry we won’t be returning to Headingley again.
First visit and the service was impeccable! Wonderful, friendly and genuine staff. Food was absolutely stunning. We will be returning very soon. Thank you
Excellent and will definitely be returning.
There were a number of starter options on the menu that were not available as they were sold out, which was disappointing. The quality of the food we did have was excellent. The service was okay, although part of our food order was delayed and we were not supplied with water glasses or side plates until we asked.
The pepper chicken and Yorkshire cheese naan have to be tasted to be believed.
Food was fantastic, service was fast, and efficient but without rushing. Staff were friendly and very welcoming. Can't wait to return with lots of my friends and share the experience.
Food was nice - but no better than our normal restaurant choice for curry. The main problem was the service was very poor - we had to wait over 1 hour for our mains, during which time there was no explanation and we weren’t asked if we needed more drinks. Eventually the front of house girl noticed us and came over - just as we were debating whether to get up and leave. We were told there had been a mix up but we’re not given an apology or deduction from the bill. It was very busy but not all tables were full.
Excellent authentic food
This was our second visit and we weren’t disappointed. The staff are really friendly and super efficient. The food is amazing and the drinks choice is plentiful. We will be back. I’m thinking of suggesting the York venue for our works Christmas meal it was that good.
