About The Burlington Restaurant
The Burlington has the classical and traditional style of a country house hotel with a fresh and exciting menu offering from our head chef . We are delighted to showcase the culinary expertise of one of the UK's most talented young chefs. Our seasonal tasting menu is a stunning & mouth watering treat you simply must try - let him surprise you with his choice of stunning dishes. Despite the formality the warm and friendly welcome along with amazing service will make you feel totally relaxed during your amazing dining experience.
Afternoon Tea is served daily at sittings at 1.30pm & 3.30pm
our third time there. Excellent food and great service all the time
Food was outstanding. 9 course tasting menu delivered Michelin Star quality food. The service does need some work however. Wines were not poured, jus dripped on clothing from the jug without staff noticing, cutlery missing from table. You won't manage the Star which you deserve without addressing these front of house issues.
We enjoyed the 9 course tasting menu and every dish was delicious. We will definitely be back
Once again, a wonderful meal at the Burlington Restaurant. It has been a few years (probably five or six) since we were last there. Although the food was stunning, sadly the atmosphere is much less appealing that it has been in the past. The place has lost its wonderfully unique character and is now more like many other hotel restaurants that also double as a wedding venue. A very noisy wedding in adjoining areas to the restaurant with rowdy and quite intoxicated 'guests' wandering through the hotel really spoilt the whole "Devonshire Experience" for us. It really doesn't now live up to its claim as "the classical and traditional style of a country house hotel" ... more a second-rate wedding venue with an excellent restaurant attached. Very sad, another wonderful experience is, alas, no more.
We have dined at the Burlington previously, however, on this occasion we were not impressed by the good. Whilst it was satisfactory there was no 'wow' factor. All the dishes were similar in presentation; whilst the first dish covered in micro leaves and flowers was attractive by the end of service this was becoming boring. When we arrived we were seated by the piano which made conversation difficult - the cocktail lounge was full. We had to wait around 15 minutes before we were offered a drink. The canapés arrived quite some time later. The gentleman I assumed to be the Maitre D' was brusque in his manner and did not engage with us beyond checking we had given our drinks order. We had to catch someone's eye to order a second drink, however when he came to us he said the table was ready (despite canapés only just been served) and would bring the champagne to table - it never arrived! The young boy who served the food was fine, but had clearly not been taught to do anything beyond deliver the food and tell us what it was. When I checked the bill at home the following day we had been charged for 2bottles of water when we had only had one. I had two 125 ml of wine at £9.50 or £9.75 per glass but we had been charged £29 for these. My daughter had one 125 ml of Gewurtztraminer at £10 per glass but we were charged £14 for that. I am surprised that a restaurant such as The Burlington would condone such underhand practices. Overall I cannot say it was poor, however it did not stand up to our previous experience of the restaurant.q
It was really lovely, beautiful afternoon tea.
The staff, surroundings and afternoon tea are superb however I thought it was overpriced on comparison to other equal establishments.
Absolutely excellent tasting menu. We preferred it to L’Enclume.
Best afternoon tea we've ever had, absolutely stunning place and the food was beautiful.
A unique dining experience for a special occasion.
Absolutely wonderful afternoon tea. Staff extremely helpful. We will be back soon!
Service was spot on, atmosphere is hard to comment on as it was a midweek trip
Lovely hotel and restaurant. Great food and fantastic, friendly staff.
Outstanding service as always yet again.
Excellent professional service and a sublime meal. Many thanks to chef and staff.
Having had a fantastic experience previously we were really looking forward to a celebratory meal but were left a little disappointed. Neither of us found the food to be outstanding as it should be, in fact the crab starter I had was actually difficult to finish. The texture and flavours were awful and as we'd chosen to have the a la carte option it was a shame that one of three courses was really unappealing. Both the pre-starter and pre-dessert were delicious but the canapés were not great at all. Both flavour and textures didn't work for us and we remember those as previously being a highlight. The service was fine but not exceptional and the atmosphere was lacking. Sadly we won't be be back in a hurry.
Staff are all very attentive and welcoming and the food is devine. Can’t wait for my next visit already!
Really lovely hotel and restaurant. The staff are very nice. The food is great and, if you want wine that compliments each course, they do it really well. Everyone does their utmost to make your stay very personal and memorable.
Thank you for a lovely afternoon tea in the Dog Lounge. Bodhi enjoyed himself very much. (17 month old Chocolate Lab) He has recommended you to all of his friends!
The quality of the food we were served (9 course taster menu) was excellent. The courses are exactly that - small tasters - but what incredible flavours. It is very easy to see (and taste) the amount of work put in to each individual dish. Service was high quality too - we liked how professional and friendly it was and not too formal or stuffy.
We booked afternoon tea which is one of our favourite ways to spend an hour or so. Our usual place to have afternoon tea has always been the Midland in Morecambe ad the quality of food and service has always been perfect. However.... as my partner is gluten free the quality of sandwiches and desserts including beautiful scones was absolutely 1st class. Worth the extra cost and can thoroughly recommend.
This was my 3rd visit for a Birthday present for my Mum. Fabulous as always. Helen Kapil
