About The Bunch of Grapes, Pontypridd
We like to think that “The Bunch” as we’re fondly referred to, is how a great pub should be, and we are proud to say the Good Pub Guide agree with us, naming us the 'Dining Pub of the Year' for the UK.
We are creators and passionate about what we do. We brew our own beers, bake fresh bread every morning and create unique inventive seasonal dishes, with an emphasis on locally sourced, sustainable and seasonally fresh ingredients.
We like to break the rules- you can grab a homemade burger and a craft beer in the bar or a fine wine and modern British cuisine whilst dining with friends in the restaurant- either way its your call.
Where you can enjoy a home made pie and mash in the bar with a pint of Welsh ale while cheering on the Welsh rugby and then return with friends to a fine dining meal in the restaurant with wines from around the world the next.
But if you prefer you can just sit in the corner, read your paper, enjoy your beer and be happy you have found us.
Quite limited menu for the restaurant, it seems a shame that the same range as that offered in the bar can't be offered in the restaurant.
Fantastic birthday lunch with my husband and our son. Thank you.
Great service and lovely food
Absolutely lovely : the food, drink and service. Thank you so much.
Excellent food at outstanding value. Great choice of wine and beers and lovely atmosphere. Most of the staff were very professional and welcoming.
Came to the Bunch of Grapes for a birthday meal and wasn’t disappointed. We all enjoyed our food which was cooked and presented to an excellent standard. The service was also excellent. Good night was had by all. Will definitely come again and will be recommending to friends. Thank you all.
Food was delicious. Service was good, attentive but not overbearing. Good selection of drinks and varied menu. Will definitely be coming back.
As usual enjoyable atmosphere, phenomenal drinks and good food, although we were let down by service and for the first time we didn’t leave a tip. The girl that served us began with the response of “if you like” when I asked if we could order food and her attitude and stance was honestly shocking. Service was slow and we had to prompt and ask the whole way through. The best service as always was provided by the gentleman running the restaurant. If I had one piece of constructive criticism of the food is that the puddings don’t live up to the savoury menu both in composition and execution as well as no chocolate option which is unusual. For the price, quantity and taste we all decided against having a pudding again this time around as have been disappointed with each pudding ordered previously. That and the sausages and pie off the bar menu definitely should be with mash, the new pots aren’t the best match or in taste.
Excellent service and food. High quality food at great prices.
Love it ! As always -- great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Can't wait to come back!
Very good Sunday lunch spoilt by slow service. When our party of 6 arrived they tried to seat us on a table for 4. After some attempts to make it work they eventually moved us to a table that comfortably accommodated us. While we were offered drinks to start, we were never asked if we needed top ups or shown a wine list. There were long gaps between each course and no offer of coffee or tea at the end. Good food but let down by poor service.
Three of the steaks were very fatty , we told the staff at the time and when making payment and nothing was done,
More expensive and smaller portion sizes than used to be. Can’t fault the food but won’t be back again, disappointed!
The tofu dish was amazing, both in presentation and taste
Can’t fault the atmosphere - very friendly staff. One waitress forgot to bring the wine list & the ‘Salt baked celeriac’ was more ‘celeriac baked salt’?! Also, the plumbing could do with some extra sound-proofing (in the corner where we were sitting anyway)! But in general it was a lovely meal, many thanks.
Very poor service as i stated in my Google review....
A good meal could be a better choice
Friendly staff and our food was lovely. Served quickly too. Would definitely recommend .
Our favourite restaurant in the area by far, have never been let down by the amazing food and excellent service. We’ve been 5 or 6 times and we’ll continue to.
Dined on a Saturday night and the food was lovely. Desserts were a little disappointing in comparison to the rest of the meal. We had the Mille Feuille and the Cheesecake. The Mille Feuille was a little strip of pastry, 4 small strips of cooked rhubarb and a blob of ice cream..... A number of gins were sold out as well, and with it being a bank holiday weekend would have thought everything would have been fully stocked
We had a lovely meal and evening. Everything was great. We would recommend adding a bit more accompaniment to main course. My 13 year old son was still very hungry after the potato that we had mixed in the the cabbage. Another potato or two would have made it a clear 5 star visit.
Pork belly starter looked like a work of art but unfortunately the taste didn’t match up. Hake main course was delicious ! ... fantastic service.... would def recommend a visit.
Food was ok but service was very poor.
Lovely restaurant but the service wasn’t great . We had to ask for somebody to take our order 40 minutes after we were seated as nobody had come . Our starters didn’t come until an hour and 15 minutes after being seated .
Sorry to say had a terrible evening at your pub which ruined our night out. Yes you have a great variety of beers and bar staff are ok however you restaurant serving team are almost totally negligent and give the impression that they could not care less. They seem to resent having to serve and stand around chatting. On the evening the young dark haired bloke and the very slight blonde girl were rude and disinterested. There was little information about what you actually sold so we missed the chance to buy breads etc, and when our mains finally arrived it was dumped on table with a vague is there anything else you want - couldn’t answer as we were not told what you served. As for desert we would still be waiting now if we had not got up and complained as we were leaving after 35 minutes of sitting with an empty glass. I did ask if the staff were new or if there was any reason why things were so bad on a quiet night. The slightly more helpful lady said that there were no staff problems. You should think about taking a few tips from the staff at whetherspoons where the staff are 100% more professional. What’s gone so wrong?
