About The Bunch of Grapes, Pontypridd
We like to think that “The Bunch” as we’re fondly referred to, is how a great pub should be, and we are proud to say the Good Pub Guide agree with us, naming us the 'Dining Pub of the Year' for the UK.
We are creators and passionate about what we do. We brew our own beers, bake fresh bread every morning and create unique inventive seasonal dishes, with an emphasis on locally sourced, sustainable and seasonally fresh ingredients.
We like to break the rules- you can grab a homemade burger and a craft beer in the bar or a fine wine and modern British cuisine whilst dining with friends in the restaurant- either way its your call.
Where you can enjoy a home made pie and mash in the bar with a pint of Welsh ale while cheering on the Welsh rugby and then return with friends to a fine dining meal in the restaurant with wines from around the world the next.
But if you prefer you can just sit in the corner, read your paper, enjoy your beer and be happy you have found us.
We have been many times here with friends and were happy to take some friends along this Saturday, who had never been, telling them ahead of time how good the food etc was. However, it was such a disappointment. What’s happened? The girl serving us looked so surly and had to be asked more than once to bring us water, bread etc . She looked like she didn’t want to be there. The soup starter was fantastic. Just tiny. But the main courses: oh dear . All 4 of them were lukewarm. Additionally, we hadn’t been informed at time of ordering that we needed to order sides of vegetables or chips separately. So all 4 meals had to go back to the kitchen for a reheat. Which meant the venison dish was drier than it should have been as the sauce had dried out a bit. Then had to wait for the vegetables. It was embarrassing, as we had strongly recommended you to our friends. I cannot imagine they’ll ever return. Not sure we will either- there are other places to go and it’s not worth the risk of a repeat performance. Although we had complained all we had was the side free of charge - about £10 of a £185 bill.
Regular haunt for Sunday lunch never disappoints
Very disappointed and very expensive for a small piece of steak 8!chips and a tomaton
Had a fabulous night 3 in the party we tried different meals on all courses and we loved every one of them thank you for a fab food night
Been coming for years and it gets better every time
Had the Good Food Guide bought for me by my parents and looked at local places to eat. A very good dining experience, well worth a visit
The food was delicious, service was good and prices about average. The only reason why not 5* is because 2 of the items on the lunchtime menu were showing on the Specials board, but when we came to order, were told they were sold out. Everything else was good. We will return.
Amazing food in a relaxing atmosphere with excellent service.
We were extremely disappointed with the portion sizes. The menu stated lamb with potato chips. Never did we expect 3 small slices of lamb with 3..yes just 3 crisps, it was laughable. We won't be returning as we felt this was terrible value for money.
Great place for lunch if visiting Caerphilly Castle. We shall recommend to our customers from our Glamping site www.hide.wales.
Good quality food but overpriced and very small portions.
I felt it was overpriced and small portions (restaurant menu)
A cut above anything else locally.
Great food,great atmosphere
Bwyd hyfryd mewn tafarn hynod o gartrefol.
Excellent service and beautiful food. Portions were as expected for this type of establishment, no complaints there. Little bit pricey but reasonable enough for a treat. Really nice restaurant, will be returning.
Great pub food. A local favourite.
Great pub - super Sunday lunch and excellent beer .
Our 3rd visit to the BofG, and the best meal yet. Menu read well but tasted even better - the surprise in the middle of the chocolate fondant a stroke of genius. Selection of beers and ciders is the best I've come across and the service struck just the right balance between attentive and discreet. Will certainly be returning.
The chairs need seat cushions as they are uncomfortably hard. Delicious food, excellent service and relaxed atmosphere.
Lovely food and place could do with a few different options for starters e.g pate etc
The Bunch of Grapes has been one of my favourite restaurants and I have recommended it to many friends. My visit this week was the first for several months and I found it very disappointing. The choice of meals had become far more limited, the prices had increased and the meal portions were small. (My main meal of Basil Gnocchi was more like a starter in size and didn't fill me at all). Thankfully the staff remained pleasant.
Food tasted fantastic but portions far to small
Thank you for our very pleasant mid week lunch. It was enjoyed by all. Lovely food as always! Mandy Davies
Excellent food and drink, absolutely spot on .
