About The Bull And Swan
Once upon a time there was a drinking club at Burghley House. It was founded by The 5th Earl of Exeter in 1684 and it was called The Honourable Order of Little Bedlam. It had an eclectic bunch of members: The Baptist Earl of Gainsborough was known as Greyhound, The Hon Charles Bertie was The Stag and The Earl of Denbigh was Tyger amongst other nefarious characters. They would have drunk locally brewed ales, feasted on Burghley Estate and other local produce and created total bedlam. Things have a habit of coming round and we are delighted to invite you to dine on our local produce, sup our fine ales and obviously behave very, very well!
I understand we are limited to our interaction with staff, but we felt as soon as we were seated, we were left to figure out what to do (table service or mobile service). After 10-15 minutes did someone ask whether we were comfortable using the app, which we were. It did seem a long time to get our drinks, considering it wasn’t overly busy. When the food arrived, it was ok, but not worth the price & when we wanted to speak with someone, there was no one to be seen. It was for my daughter’s birthday so overall disappointing, especially after adding up the total cost for 6 people at £165. Shame, could be a lot better if the staff were visible & you could actually interact with another human being rather than an app.
Burger over priced Gluten free bread not the best Staff very helpful trout great - good value for money Service app mot working and we were waiting around for 20 mins before we realised and noone thought to ask us about drinks etc so we figured it out on our own... Unfortunately won't be returning for food.
Such a lovely place and setting but food was so disappointing. £16.50 for a burger with brown, packet side salad and french fries. Burger was so plain and tomato chutney it was served with was just awful. Roast beef was fatty and dry in places where it had just been left to sit. Took most of meat from all dishes home to dog. Service was dreadfully slow even though it wasn’t that busy. Could have been so amazing but really let down in the end. I did explain all of these issues at the end but person did not seem interested at all and just said thank you.
Have already booked again
Visited Friday 7th May had a very disappointing and underwhelming Salt Baked Beetroot Salad, very very small portion difficult to find any beetroot hardly any blue cheese, and just a few leaves. When I go out I expect to have food that I enjoy. Visited again on Sunday 9th May even worse this time had the tomato and mozzarella quiche, really disappointing to serve such low standard food.
Food was a really nice. I’d personally like more meat with the nacho ox cheeks but when you get to the bottom and the cheese. Yum. Drinks ordering via the app was quick and service was quick. I hope that stays. It’s a shame with the weather people cancelled but we really enjoyed it. Thank you. (Love the onion rings!)
Despite some fairly arctic and wet conditions (in May), the staff were wonderful and the food was absolutely delicious. We greatly appreciated the marquee heaters too! Thanks so much, we'll definitely be back soon.
Lovely food and great service the rhubarb tart is amazing!
Had a lovely evening, although cold as having to sit outside currently due to government guidelines we were sat under heater which was welcome and nice. The atmosphere was nice and I intend to sit outside more often then I have before. Had lovely wine and food was nice but limited menu which I’m guessing is to do with the situation right now. Will look forward to returning after 17th in the hope the menu is bigger.
Staff were superb, but was waiting for my order to be taken, didnt realise I needed to order on line. I think you need to extend vegatarian options. However, i had a lovely evening and would like to thank you all.
Enjoyed the evening . Helpful staff and friendly for Our kids . Nice wine. Enjoyed the scotch egg starter the most.
Improve the WiFi connections!
Sadly, the level of service does require improvement and does seem to be connected to your digital ordering service. Our order for post meal coffee was placed and paid for via your app but did not arrive until I went to the bar and challenged staff [firstly being told it was on the counter waiting for delivery - it wasnt].
Really lovely service and brilliant food. Felt great to be able to do something normal!
Fantastic place, atmosphere and food! Very friendly and attentive service.
It was unfortunately a cool day outside and few customers - good quality food and excellent service.
Excellent experience, covered seating with heaters, lovely food and friendly service
First time out after lockdown and everything went very smoothly
Always fantastic service
Courtyard is a lovely space to relax in.
We were a group of 3. My wife and daughter had the fish and chips and commented that they were not the best. I had the burger and was very disappointed it just did not taste right. Service was slow we had to ask the waitress if there was a problem. There was little atmosphere in the garden to be expected given few diners and it was cold/ We will not be rushing back Sorry!
Such a beautiful place - enjoyed being outside in the garden & look forward to coming back to visit & enjoying some more delicious food & drinks inside. Great service & they were patient with us given I’m 8 months pregnant, indecisive & slow at eating! Thank you Bull & Swan :)
Brilliant night, Thankyou!
Huge choice of gluten free food, we went for the fish and chips which were delicious!
