About The Brown Horse Inn
The Brown Horse Inn offers the cosy ambience of a rustic country inn, featuring beautiful beams, real fires and friendly waiting staff.
Our sophisticated menu has a contemporary take on traditional local fare, with the majority of the meats and vegetables reared and grown on the Brown Horse Estate. Anything that is not direct from The Brown Horse Estate is sourced locally.
We also offer an extensive collection of wines, hand-pulled, Home Brewed, and Traditional Ales and a vast Gin menu.
Our restaurant can seat up to 40 guests with table sizes varying from 2 persons up to 12 persons, however, we can cater for larger parties when booked in advance.
Adjacent to the Restaurant is the traditional country bar which offers a lovely relaxed atmosphere, serving exactly the same menu as the restaurant. The bar can seat up to 30 guest with table sizes varying from 2 persons up to 8 persons.
Friendly, helpful staff. Great food.
Amazing food and service!
The beef roast dinner was perfection!
Fabulous food. Great service. So accommodating. Best pub in the Lake District.
Great food and service.
Fantastic meal though huge portions; great if you’re hungry but I’ll order less next time. Highly recommend; one of the best anywhere.
Thank you the food was excellent and staff all superb and very helpful
We enjoyed everything about this wonderful pub and certainly will recommend to our family and friends....if there had been vacancies for another night we would have stayed 😊
Great night as always food yummy
Brilliant as always
The food is fantastic, the steak and kidney puddings are the best I’ve had. The vegetables taste out of this world and I’d eat at the Brown Horse daily but I wouldn’t be able to get through the door within a month!
Had an absolutely fantastic meal out for my wife’s birthday last night running late due to weather but rang ahead and staff were very accommodating. Food and service was second to none and all in all a great evening out with family celebrating thanks guys fab time will definitely be coming back soon
The food was impeccable, the best meal of our trip. Great atmosphere, and lovely place over all.
One of the best meals I have had in ages. Lovely surroundings with lovely service but the food this week was just amazing! I had the tuna burger off the specials burger and it was beautiful. Fish pie and fish and chips were also winners on our table!!
We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed excellent meals on both evenings. Both my husband and a friend said it was the best steak and kidney pudding they had ever had. On the second night I had the porcine mushroom ravioli . It was some of the best pasta I have ever had and I travel regularly to Italy.
You were so helpful and efficient in arranging the reservation and the pre-order for our large family group. The food all came so punctually after our arrival and it was of exceptional quality. Everyone loved the meal and there were lots of superlatives round the table as we ate. Not only was the food and the service outstanding, your pub itself is wonderfully historic, atmospheric and serves a superb range of drinks. Thankyou for a real birthday lunch to remember.
Amazing service and meal. Would highly recommend.
Great location, great food and drink, and great service. Bit of a hidden gem that I don't want to shout too loud about as I might not be able to get in again! Rooms may be a bit pricy but I guess that is the market. Aside from that this is a great place to stay - recommend it
Great service, great food, lovely atmosphere
Lovely meal great service, team so friendly
An excellent traditional unpretentious pub in a good location, with good quality food served by very pleasant staff. A special evening for us, made all the more special by the terrific venue. Will definitely be going back sometime soon...
Arrived 15 minutes early at the bar area, mentioned I had a table booked, and the barman who wasn't busy, just pointed to a table and told me it was over there by the far wall. Nobody ushered any of my party to the table and we were left to our own devices for 5 minutes. There were six in the party, but although there were 6 menus only 3 had the daily specials addition included, and we did not have a wine menu. When eventually we were noticed we requested a wine menu, but were told "none avaialable, you'll have to wait, they're all out " Wtf??, not enough menus for the tables??? We were asked if we wanted drinks as well as wine, water was brought and a few drinks were ordered, these were drunk before the starters arrived, yes it was quite busy, but the glasses were removed by a waitress who didn't bother to ask if we'd like more drinks??? We had to request more drinks again !! Food arrived, and was very good if not excellent, but still, the staff could be a little more attentive, to clear glasses , replenish water or check if drinks need replenishing or if the food is ok....Not after the meal?? All in all, the surroundings and food are first class, just let down by unhelpful or untrained staff.
Highly recommend The Brown Horse Inn if you’re visiting the area , excellent food , excellent service , icing on the cake for me is their vast choice of speciality Gins ! I’d advise booking a table beforehand as , not surprised in the least , they are very busy - best to avoid disappointment !
Had a very pleasant meal on the last evening of our holiday. Staff were friendly & helpful.
As expected, excellent all round. My 4th visit and nothing to disappoint. Thank you to all fab people waiting on!
