About Norton House Hotel - Brasserie
Contemporary Brasserie serving comfort food with a modern twist.
Traditional Afternoon Tea is served in our Drawing Room.
Menu rather boring.
I have ate in the brasserie on many occasions however this was the only time I have ever been disappointed. The dessert was the only nice part of the meal. Even the water was warm not cold, the overall dinner exierience poor. Breakfast was not much better however a slight improvement apart from the scrambled egg. Thanks
La brasserie manque de charme par rapport à l'hôtel que ce soit le lieu en lui même ou ce que l’on a dans l’assiette qui manque de finesse.
It was a last minute choice when I booked only 2 hours prior to the dining time. When we arrived, the managed told us they've not received our booking. But thankfully there was space to sit us in. Food was brilliant with good service. The main restaurant room is very dark so I asked to sit through in another room with more windows. Would definitely go back for tasty food. However, I personally feel the restaurant needs some upgrade work as it's not very up to date.
The food was delicious. Service was good, everyone friendly and helpful. Beverages expensive, but probably standard for hotels. Would definitely return.
We ate in the restaurant on a Saturday and Sunday the first time as a couple with our daughter the second time with friends who lived locally and had come to see us. On both occasions the menu was the same and I have to say I thought a bit limiting in choice. There were 6 main courses plus steaks and a few additional choices. The food was well cooked and tasty but I felt as it is now the only restaurant in the hotel then there should have been more choice. Service on the first night was good, and we were given time to have a pre-dinner drink and review the menu before entering the restaurant. However, on the second night we booked a table for 7.30pm and our order was not taken until well after 8.00pm and I had to go and find a waiter to do so. The restaurant was less busy with guests on the Sunday but was very slow service which seemed odd, I can only assume more staff are working on a busy Saturday evening. Typically, having stayed at many of the Handpicked hotels over the years, staff are very welcoming and I just felt that this was not up to the usual standard with staff engaging with guests. I also don't like a brasserie style restaurant - I would prefer to eat in a more traditional style restaurant with white tablecloths - but that's just my preference. It won't put me off visiting again if I am in the area but I do feel some improvements could be made.
Main course was outstanding. The pork dish.
The staff were very good and my golden wedding went very well and we thank you for your service
The food was very good and the service was brilliant. Staff were very friendly and attentive and went out of their way to ensure we were taken care of. Drinks and cocktails through in the bar area was a great way to finish off the evening.
The service was very slow when we arrived - despite the restaurant being quite quiet. Our drinks arrived the same time as the starters (which were fantastic) but the drinks were wrong and we had another wee wait to get the right ones. My husband's steak was lovely but I ordered the chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was quite greasy and there were no anchovies. Poor choice on my part - but the rest was nice just a shame it all took so long.
It's been a couple of years since I have been at the Norton House for a meal at the weekend but did used to visit regularly...i still like the feel of the place and like sitting in the lounge before and after having the meal... what I would say is the menu is nowhere near what it used to be with limited choices and the standard of food seems to have deteriorated... My main observation and frustration would be that it took far too long to get drinks from the bar where we waited over 20 mins before our meal and longer after the meal... this would put me off coming back.
Unfortunately the only thing that let the whole experience down was the evening meal. Waited 20 minutes for drinks, Caesar salad was far too big for a starter too much lettuce boring tasteless, one piece of bacon, main was lovely but someone at our table got the wrong meal and didn’t get her main course till 9.45pm by which time everyone else had finished their meal.. disappointing as I had treated the other members of my group as a Mother’s Day treat.. I felt embarrassed. I would recommend Norton house certainly for the spa experience which was amazing. Your waiting staff work very hard.
Really lovely experience. Friendly efficient service, tasty food in comfortable surroundings. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be back.
We had a fantastic meal at the Norton. The staff were great with our two children and were very attentive. The food was delicious.
This was a get together with my cousins and we all thoroughly enjoyed the event. Great place for this sort of occasion. We were well looked after by the staff and the food was excellent.Thank you for a lovely Sunday lunch!
Very family friendly venue.
Excellent food. Well presented & with some unexpected (and nice) twists.
Light lunch at spa was lovely. Breakfast fabulous. Overall the evening meal was enjoyable however the food was a tad greasy, particularly the haddock (I only ate half due to this). Staff professional and friendly offering good service. Dinner service was slow at times even though the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy.
The meal was absolutely magnificent and the staff were very professional. Thank you for a lovely evening
I don't remember the last time I ate that well! The food was excellent. Well worth a night in the hotel just for that. Thanks to all for such a lovely evening
Children are not allowed in the pool (Spa) before 3pm which we were not told beforehand. Only after a plea to the Spa staff, who were really helpful and understanding, were we allowed to take our baby daughter to the pool.
Food was great, service was a little slow between courses but quality of food made up for this.
Food. Was very good served car was excellent could do with a bit more atmosphere some nice background music would help
We came for dinner on a Tuesday - the brasserie was fairly quiet but there was a nice buzz and the food was amazing. Service was friendly and quick.
We were the only diners in the Brasserie due, possibly to the snowy conditions
