Encompassing the traditional brasserie restaurant concept of friendly service, seasonal local produce, simply cooked and imaginatively presented. The emphasis is on big flavours, everything from breads through to puddings is homemade, and top quality meat, poultry and game are the backbone of the menu, accompanied by a well-rounded wine list.
Dinner was so good, we came back for lunch the next day.
We had a lovely few days at Merchants Manor and had Breakfasts and a couple of evening meals at Rastella. The quality of food was excellent - we had the taster menu one evening and it was suberb. Because of restriction the choice of food was not as good as usual, especially as we do not eat meat. However the chef was able to accommodate us well on request. The staff and service was great. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so lovely and safe.
We stayed at the hotel last year when the cooked breakfast menu was comprehensive and the buffet table overflowing with enticing home made cereals, muffins, croissants, etc. Having to adhere to safety and distance restrictions this year and unable to offer the full cooked menu or the large buffet, I think Rastella has done a brilliant job in maintaining both the sunny informal atmosphere and the very cute individual 'buffet at your table', offering the same home-made breakfast goodies. I challenge anyone to eat everything offered! The 'Full Cornish' and avocado and poached egg on sourdough, a must try also.
The staff were very helpful at all times, especially the girls serving breakfast they really work so hard to make it perfect for you
The food was absolutely beautiful. Fantastic food with the most attentive service.
This was our first meal out since lockdown and we were not disapointed. The staff at Rastella did a fine job in making us feel welcome and safe. The Food was amazing and I would highly recomend this restaurant. Can't wait to go back. Well done to everyone at Merchants Manor
The welcome and intro to the hotel was great. We arrived and the room was not ready due to a error by the clearer who was re leaning the room again my mistake. This simply did not matter. The cleaner was empowered to make us happy. He suggested going to the entrance and letting them know that he has said we should wait and have a drink on them. When a business empowers everyone to put the customer first you know that they are serious about service. We had our free drink and another apology (which was not necessary) and then headed to our room to get changed for dinner. The food, drink was great. The team at breakfast the following day remembered us and check we were ok. These little touches make it memorable. Thanks for our stay we loved it.
Ein sehr schönes Restaurant im Merchants Manor Hotel. Wir haben dort gerne gegessen. Freundliches und gives Personal, leckeres Essen und ein toller Ausblick haben uns sehr gut gefallen!
Lovely breakfast in very nice surroundings with super friendly service! Couldn’t fault it at all- a real treat! Thank you to everyone- in these challenging times- you all handled the situation very well.:)
We stayed recently with Covid measures in place so 'atmosphere' and 'value for money' rating not reflective of normal visit - social-distancing measures in place and the pool was out of use as per government rules. We didn't eat at the restaurant in the evenings but breakfast was very good - the chef made a special effort to tailor to our dietary requirements and the service was warm and helpful. Hotel took Covid measures very seriously and made efforts to make sure we were happy with our stay. There was an initial lack of communication about pared down services, reception, breakfast menu but the hotel was very responsive to our feedback to make guests more aware of the altered experience and to be more present.
Food tasted great but portions were very small, still felt hungry for more once i had finished.
Considered Covid 19 conditions excellent service
Lovely hotel. Food and drink offerings were delicious. Most notable aspect of our stay though was the friendliness of the staff. Every staff member we encountered over our the day stay, including when dining or having a drink, were all friendly and helpful. We could not have felt more looked after.

Fantastic food and lots of options available. Really nice and healthy/home made options.
Catfish hotel - lobby and reception rooms beautiful- bedrooms shabby.... not impressed a single bit
Love the creativity in the tasting menu. The story telling using local produce was so good.
We had an excellent weekend dinner taster menu and enjoyed the exceptional food and the outstanding service. Will and his colleagues thoroughly described each dish to perfection. The menu featuring local produce was an absolute treat. It was a dinner to remember! If we had to make one comment...maybe more music to enhance the lovely atmosphere? The breakfast was also great. Excellent homemade granola and delicious eggs and avocado toast and all the trimmings. We would recommend to anyone visiting the area to eat there and to stay in the hotel. We loved it and wish we could have stayed longer and eaten there again.
a bit more choice for breakfast.
The service was warm and friendly and outstanding. All the staff couldn’t help enough and the food was beautiful
Breakfast was exceptionally basic, with no option to be able to have toast. A very basic full English was available, minus toast. Very small croissants where on our table and a very small bag of granola enough for one person. Coffee was filter only and came out warm. A very disappointing breakfast experience for the money. Staff were very friendly.
We enjoyed both dinner, selecting the tasting menu, and breakfast. The food was fabulous, served with care and attention to detail, both with regards to the local ingredients but equally making the meal comfortable and relaxed whilst respecting social distancing and mask wearing! All the staff are lovely and friendly, we'll definitely return.
Great Food Experience. Great Manor Hotel. Great Service. Have given mainly 4 out of 5 as there were a few hiccups, they were great at solving them. Small things could be improved upon which would take it easily to a 5star experience. Will be back.
With Covid19 it's not easy to make everyone comfortable, but they do there best here Always made to feel welcome
