About The Botany
A new arrival to Maryhill, The Botany is situated on the outskirts of the ever-expanding west end. One of the last remaining building of what was once a bustling high street and old tenement flats The Botany was born from its previous incarnation The Strathmore. Originally a working man’s pub dating back to 1877, the original brickwork still remains but is now accompanied by an enchanting glass house conservatory with an outside terrace. As you sit overlooking beautiful garden surroundings and parkland you will easily forget you are beside the bustle of Maryhill Road.
The name pays homage to a nearby sub-district of Maryhill, possibly so-called as the starting point for prisoners working on the Forth and Clyde canal as they made their journey to Botany Bay. Fear not though! The only journey you will be taking here is one of a mouthwatering culinary experience. The Botany’s name is also a nod to the nearby Botanical Gardens which helped to establish their vision of bringing a fresh, ingredient driven menu to Glasgow’s Maryhill food scene. That same philosophy is applied to their seasonal cocktail menus, extensive wine list, rotating bottle selection, quality gins and whisky.
The eclectic menu hosts a selection of small and large plates to appease every appetite. During the day you can tuck into fresh ciabatta sandwiches, a superfoods salad or the staff’s favourite; smoked chicken tacos. At night you can delve into their large plates section with choices like monkfish curry, pan fried pigeon breast or ribeye steak. There are brunch specials promoted every weekend from 11-3pm.
Excellent service and food lovely surroundings too .. will go back
Really nice place!
Fantastic and friendly staff and I would definitely come here to eat again! Brilliant food and lovely, calming atmosphere, great staff who were always there to help without being intrusive. Thank you!
Really chilled,relaxed atmosphere.Very cosy.Meal was lovely,loved the log burner.Staff was great.x
Lovely restaurant and great value for money definitely worth a visit
Overall, everything was very good and we would recommend the Botany as a place to go for food or a drink. The staff were excellent, very friendly and professional. One small thing is to have some form of potatoes offered with some of the mains where potatoes do not come with the meal or offer potatoes as a side, as not everyone eats chips (the only potatoes on the menu as sides were handcut chips or skinny fries with truffle oil). Having some variation of potatoes would be good.
Excellent service from knowledgeable staff. Food was delicious.
we had the set menu and the cull and skink and risotto were the best choices dissaoointed that the tuna was finished at 8pm! monkfish skewer had two tiny bits of monkfish! sticky toffe was dry but choc mousse and creme brulee were both delish 7.5 overall out of 10 pedro? was a great server very attentive and professional so service 9 out of 10 atmosphere - hated the naff plastic ikea plant and planter could do much better and no salt pepper grinders on each tble ? thats just lazy sorry! the room was pretty nice very on trend mix of chairs but there was a glut of one type of dining chair in one area weird?! will come again but maybe brunch or lunch im sure you will iron out the teething problems! good luck
Really lovely venue and the food is really amazing! So pleased and I love the change from the Strathmore. Space is used far better and seems cosy :)
Overall just OK. The service was good but the food wasn’t great. Overpriced for what it is.
Great food and a great atmosphere. All at a very reasonable price.
Love this bar, especially the conservatory at the back. Ignore what daily record columnist wrote yesterday and try it for yourself
Enjoyed the food, staff were friendly an helpful, loved the environment it was comfortable and cosy. It was was delightful to eat and drink in, will definitely be back.
Food and staff were excellent. Only thing I would change would be to lower the volume of the music, but that’s just my preference
I am just so lucky that this fab bar/restaurant is my local! Always made to feel so welcome, and the quality of food/drink is brillzo thrillzo. The staff are incredibly kind and professional and even smile when putting up with my mum who is a super fussy eater (extensive menu, orders off-menu cheese toastie *eye roll*) Loads of options for REAL dietary requirements/choices as well! Keep up the great work guys, we pure love ye!
Although food was reasonably good it did not merit the price especially for a lunch
Good night with relatives visiting from NZ. They (and we) were impressed with the variety of locally sourced produce
What a wonderful meal in a absolutely beautiful setting , can’t wait to return .
We had a great night in the Botany. The staff were lovely and very attentive. We had a large table and it seems the food went down really well (I would say the only disappointment being the creme brulée which was a bit on the eggy side) The place looks great, the atmosphere was friendly and cosy and the food very nice overall. We'll be back!
A slightly limited menu, but I’m assuming that this is because fresh ingredients are used. Food was good (burger and balmoral pie) well cooked (except the broccoli which was hard) and presented. Staff were attentive and pleasant. A good first visit, we’ll be back.
Botany is a lovely place to meet friends and relax, food is amazing and a great selection of drinks and love the cocktails, would highly recomend.
Lovely meal as usual never disappointed
The food was first rate-the crab and chilli linguine was just the right amount of sweetness and heat. Staff were spot on. Cheerful and attentive but not in your face. The music was a bit on the loud side causing the table to shout a bit. A bit chilly as well..maybe time try out the new wood burner?
Great food and smashin selection of beers, Gins and Whiskys.
