About The Botany
A new arrival to Maryhill, The Botany is situated on the outskirts of the ever-expanding west end. One of the last remaining building of what was once a bustling high street and old tenement flats The Botany was born from its previous incarnation The Strathmore. Originally a working man’s pub dating back to 1877, the original brickwork still remains but is now accompanied by an enchanting glass house conservatory with an outside terrace. As you sit overlooking beautiful garden surroundings and parkland you will easily forget you are beside the bustle of Maryhill Road.
The name pays homage to a nearby sub-district of Maryhill, possibly so-called as the starting point for prisoners working on the Forth and Clyde canal as they made their journey to Botany Bay. Fear not though! The only journey you will be taking here is one of a mouthwatering culinary experience. The Botany’s name is also a nod to the nearby Botanical Gardens which helped to establish their vision of bringing a fresh, ingredient driven menu to Glasgow’s Maryhill food scene. That same philosophy is applied to their seasonal cocktail menus, extensive wine list, rotating bottle selection, quality gins and whisky.
The eclectic menu hosts a selection of small and large plates to appease every appetite. During the day you can tuck into fresh ciabatta sandwiches, a superfoods salad or the staff’s favourite; smoked chicken tacos. At night you can delve into their large plates section with choices like monkfish curry, pan fried pigeon breast or ribeye steak. There are brunch specials promoted every weekend from 11-3pm.
Food was of a very high quality and portion size was plentiful. Staff were very friendly, professional and attentive. Social distancing rules very clearly marked out and restaurant was extremely clean. Great cocktails too at very reasonable prices. Great beer garden too where we enjoyed a drink after our meal. Will definitely return!
As always, great service and food and unbeatable atmosphere. This is our favourite place to go, and would prefer this cosy spot over most west end places. The food is always of the highest quality and the creative menu and daily specials are a delight.
A lovely bar and restaurant with an unexpectedly gorgeous glass house at the back. Food was delicious and we were servied by very friendly staff. We also received a 20% discount off our food which we weren't expecting! Will definitely be back.
Very well organised but in a calm atmosphere. Staff brilliant and service great. Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxed lunch for the first time in motnths. Thx Botany
Great service and tasty food. The place was spotless with lovely decor. Will def be back.
Dim the lights and get some candles on the table
Lovely restaraunt dog friendly, bowl of water given to our Husky as soon as we sat down making the dog settle down right away. Staff were superb and could not do enough to ensure we were well looked after. I would recommend this establishment to anyone with or without dog.
An excellent meal in beautiful surroundings and relaxed friendly service. Would highly recommend
amazing service, atmosphere and drinks! Would definitely recommend!
The Staff at the Botany are superb nothing a hassle. With all the problems with the Covid Virus and having to wear there masks all shift and still manage to deliver a first class service doing the Botany proud. The only Negative was the Rib eye Steak I know it is a fatty meat but it was just too much fat apart from that a great night again cheers especially the Staff.
Excellent meal, excellent service, able to cater to my gluten and dairy free requirements. Thank you!
Brilliant experience if a tad pricey for the amount of food. Cozy and delicious.
i love the Botany and at the moment with social distancing in place the restaurant layout is excellent, its very airy and you feel relaxed. This place has been a great addition the local area.
Lovely restaurant and really great service from your friendly staff. Food was superb. Only suggestion would be to have another cider on tap as the aspalls is very sweet but good choice of beers!
Our meal was lovely. The service and atmosphere were excellent and the food good value for money.
Delighted to get a Tuesday night discount in September.
Great bar/restaurant, but it was empty when we were in, hence the 3 stars for atmosphere. Food was great but the portion sizes are small for what you are paying. I’ve been twice in the last month. Once for lunch and the other for dinner. Both times, the portions were all small. I thought the first time, it was because it was lunch, so decided to go back and try dinner. But it was the same. For this reason, I wouldn’t go back or recommend. Portion sizes were better when it was the Strathmore.
Staff were extremely efficient. Taking care in distancing & cleaning. The food was delicious. Homemade soup. Open sandwich was plentiful. Nice bright & airy premises. Look forward to returning. J.A. Strain. 01.09.20.
Obviously the atmosphere is affected by our present circumstances. Everything else was excellent
Great service, and good to return after all these months - great meal although felt the roast was a little bit pricey!
Very extensive choices on the dinner menu and we were pleased with our selections. Staff were very helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere within the restaurant was very pleasant. We'll be back again soon, and will bring our friends with us.
Lovely inside, warm & welcoming, staff friendly & helpful, maybe more main choices eg a chicken or steak pie? Only annoying thing was the smell and cigarette smoke coming into the conservatory from the beer garden.
Food was fantastic yesterday. Especially the prune parfait and earl grey syrup. Was nice to see something different on a dessert menu.
