About The Boat House
The Boat House at Cameron House is a fantastic restaurant for those seeking a relaxed atmosphere and delicious food.
Located down by the water’s edge, the nautical themed décor and views overlooking the vibrant marina greet you as you enter The Boat House. You’ll be served the freshest fish and locally sourced produce, all served with a smile from our friendly staff.
Enjoyed a couple.of.meals in the boathouse recently,.everything good. Very covid savvy. Only gripe would be the quality of the food, paying top dollar for food which is not quite value for money. But given the circumstances we were quite happy and look forward to more visits
Very poor service, and below average food - really disappointing. On arriving we found the usual route was blocked off - no additional signage so rang the clubhouse - tried three times but no answer. Found another way eventually - no greeting on arrival, female manager just gruffly took our name and seated us. She took our order after a while - didn't write it down and when it arrived it was wrong. Both dishes had to go back to kitchen. Food was ok - chicken was dry with no sauce for example, - dissappointing overall and definitely not worth the money. Tables either side of us both sent back their meals too, due to the poor quality. No apologies from either of the two managers, they just said 'I'll let the kitchen know'. Long wait for coffees - we nearly left - staff told us they were busy when we asked if we could order, though did eventually come back to us. Won't be back though sorry to experience it this way as beautiful setting and have been before with no issues.
Was good. Service was decent
Great views and good food, slightly let down by the brownie as it was dissolved by the sauce! Overall a great place to eat though, pizza, pasta and sandwiches were all excellent.
Outstanding food & service. We had the chicken supreme with mushroom risotto & it was Absolutely first class! So impressed by everything! Cocktail menu hasn’t yet been released although i know it will not disappoint!
Everything was amazing! The atmosphere, all the team members...thank you very much everyone!
Staff very pleasant and attentive. Food quality excellent but prices a bit steep.
Excellent food, drinks and service particularly under COVID conditions. Staff are really professional and friendly. A bit of music would have helped the atmosphere but only because there are fewer diners. Would def recommend the fish dishes-delicious!
I am sorry but I have eaten in the BoatHouse many times, last night was the worst by far. I had the fish and chips, which was delivered to my table within 5 minutes leading me to believe it was pre made and just warmed up which is exactly what it tasted like. Absolutely no flavour and the fish was cooked for far too long, whereas the chips were limp.
Lovely dinning experience with superb food and service x
We have been coming to the Boathouse for years & will continue to do so. Please however address the service issue in the bar area, it is appalling and this week was no different. More than one occasion having to seek out staff for service - this sadly is what we have come to expect of the Boathouse bar area. Thanks, Tanya
Hello, Unfortunately I cannot offer a positive experience at The Boat House. After arriving early for our reservation we came across a relatively empty dining area and bar, approximately 8 people. Upon arrival there were no staff visible and I had to walk around to the kitchen to ask for staff assistance, from what I could tell all staff were chatting away in the kitchen. We were offered a seat and decided to sit outside as it was a reasonably nice day. We were not served after about 10 minutes so I ventured indoors to order at bar and was informed by waitress I she would take our order at the table. We ordered and after ~5 minutes did not receive our drinks, which was odd considering how quiet it was. We were approached by another waiter who was unaware we had ordered and took our drinks order and we received these shortly after. A further 10-15 minutes later we were still without any food. We ordered a fish and chips, and a chicken supreme. Again we thought this odd because it was now ~35 minutes since we had ordered and the restaurant was still no busier than when we entered. I again went inside to the bar man and asked if our food had been processed, he followed up with kitchen and returned after 2/3 minutes and informed me our meals would be 5 minutes away and that there had been a 'processing issue'. Fair at 17:55 we received 2 x fish and chips, not even what we had ordered. By this point we were hungry enough that we ate the meals, which were nice, but not £17.50 nice. We were asked for condiments, of which we ordered ketchup and vinegar. These took probably 4/5 minutes to arrive and the vinegar arrived in a paper ramekin, which looked ridiculous. We finished our meals and entered to the bar to discuss the costs. There was no need to challenge the bill as the waiter had discounted fairly. Order: 3 x Diet Coke Coffee 2 x Fish & Chips Total £17.52 I personally found this very disappointing having worked in the industry myself. Staff were not visible, although well mannered when in discussion. Environment nice and Covid measures reasonable. Food was OK but definitely overpriced for what was served, I think our normal bill should have ~£43.50 which for 2 x fish and 3 soft drinks and a coffee is a bit ridiculous. Apologies I cannot offer more encouraging feedback but it was a very poor dining experience which I didn't expect having dined in some of your other establishments. Thanks, Scott
I arrived at The Boat House and dropped my wife and daughter at the entrance before I parked the car. My wife had my face mask and so when I got to the entrance i was unable to enter. I tried to call my wife and daughter but couldn't get them on their mobiles. I walked round and round the outside of the bar but couldn't see them. There were no staff near the entrance. The exit is through the bar and the door was open but sign said exit only. I tried to attract the bar staff's attention but they ignored me. I walked around the building again and again. I saw one of the bar staff coming out and told him my wife had my mask so I could't and wouldn't enter the building could he go to the table that had recently arrived for dinner at 5.30 to ask my wife to bring out my mask. He grunted ! No sign of my wife after 5 minutes ? I eventually got through on her mobile and she came out to give me my mask. I immediately went over to the staff member I spoke to ( a young guy with red hair) and asked if he had approached my wife. He said I don't know who she is ! The food at the Boathouse is mediocre. Freezer to microwave i expect. The Boathouse is a great setting for a restaurant but I would recommend the clubhouse at The Carrrick as a better place to eat. The staff are excellent there, very polite, friendly and professional.
Generally felt it was a good experience and staff were pleasant, especially our waitress . However, very disappointed that COVID rules were not being adhered to. A few tables were bending the rules, not your fault, but a table of 6 with 3 couple definitely is.
No signage on how to get to boathouse from main entrance since it is a site entrance now, we were late because of this and I was told directions were in email but when I checked email later there is nothing to say about that entrance being closed so if you’ve been before and know the way you are very unlikely to click the directions link to see the updated directions. Should be more obvious. But apart from that everything else was great!
service time is very poor, staff are not watching what customers need. Manager has poor customer skills, on leaving heard him telling 2 guests to get up from seats as hadn't been cleaned and hadn't done track and trace. yes they hadn't but his exact words were get away from the table ,stand over there until we have it cleaned. If that is the standard of the manager, God forbid what his staff do
Great food and atmosphere
The meal was very good and a lovely setting but there were some issues. Firstly the restaurant doesn't tell you that one of the entrance to the restaurant is closed due to building works and this is the entrance Google Maps takes you to (we used the link in the booking confirmation to get directions). Therefore we had to phone the restaurant when we couldn't find out how to get there meaning we were 20 mins late. When arriving we were then rather that the booking was 90 mins from the time we had the booking for. We explained the reason (their lack of communication around access) and had phoned but this was just dismissed which we found quite rude. The food itself was very good though the pan fried plaice seemed more poached than pan fried and was missing the samphire as described in the menu so possibly wouldn't have been what was chosen.
Nice relaxing lunch, food was very good, service excellent.
Good to see food has got so so much better, my last two dinners were delicious, also great menu now. I had the rump steak I personally would like to have a choice of what sauce to go with it, I don't like the sauce I got I'd rather have peppercorn. My fav place I am so happy it's got even better.
Absolutely fantastic time dining at The Boat House. Me and my family were cared for so well from the staff, would recommend this place to anyone. Food was excellent aswell, it’s a must you visit
We had a very pleasant evening here, and the staff and the precautions they took really helped make us feel safe. Food and drink were great. Would recommend again.
Was honestly disappointed in the manager's attitude at us arriving. Very rude and not accommodating at all. Returned again the next evening for drinks and yet again very rude, had to wait 20 mins to be served. The host that welcomes guests and seats them should ay least have a welcoming presence. This ruined our meal leaving us feeling very unwelcome, our children even commented and didnt want to return the following evening. Very disappointed.
Ive left a full review on Tripadvisor. Had a lovely evening. The Boat House is in a lovely setting and we would return.
