About The Boathouse
The Boathouse, situated on the fringe of the chic village of Seaview on the Isle of Wight is an idyllic beachside venue offering quality dining and accommodation by the sea. We pride ourselves on offering superb ales and an extensive wine selection to compliment our award winning food.
No table service, the place was dirty. Token attempt at adhering to covid guidelines. Would not recommend and unlikely to return despite being a visitor for many years.
Brilliant service and food was lovely . Highly recommend and would visit again
Gone down hill
I realise that the corona virus situation has made things very difficult but the service at our table was very poor and at times almost non existent. This only improved after my wife took it upon herself to explain to one of the staff exactly how badly they were doing. The restaurant was not busy and we were just forgotten about. We won’t be rushing back any time soon !!!!!
We had to return the 1st plate of fish and chips as the fish was dried out & crispy. The second plate was much better and we then enjoyed our meal. Very filling and tasty.
Great Friday evening deals, good service And great atmosphere.
Great value steak night!
Under the circumstances ie COVID 19, all was very good,
The room was tired, with grubby furniture to the extent we felt obliged to sit on our own coats to use the chairs. Food was poor, with grey unappetising cod in an unpleasant batter and the specials were not even available. Staff were friendly and helpful but the overall result was not up to the standard we had expected from reviews and awards, which after this experience we found astonishing that this establishment would win any accolades at all....definitely the low point of our four days eating out and staying overnight on the island.
Service was poor, generally our meals were very disappointing. We certainly would not return. Such a shame as we had high hopes due to reviews claiming award winning food.
I think you need a larger menu of light bites and starters
Not sure why the pub had to change its name from the Battery Inn when that is especially associated with the area and local history.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Very clean inside and felt very safe .And of course great food !
My breakfast was a little on the Coll side
An excellent evening. Staff were very attentive and fully diligent to the COVID requirements.
Lovely dinner and an excellent breakfast the following morning - stayed overnight whilst walking round island on coastal path and that porridge was to die for!!
We had a very disappointing visit to The Boathouse. We booked in advance arrived on time, sadly three main course items were ‘off’ the menu leaving a very narrow choice we choose fish and chips. My dish was high on batter and low on fish with dried out thin chips. Not a memorable meal. However the staff were very lovely..
Generally had a very good evening at The Boat House. Some of us were a little disappointed at the dense chips and tough pastry of the chocolate tart. My scampi was very tasty and the pavlova was beautifully presented. Staff were efficient and worked tirelessly as only two visible on duty. Very clean and following Covid guidelines to the letter.
Friendly staff, decent menu choices bearing in mind the present situation, good food.
A very enjoyable afternoon thanks
Maybe my view of dinner time is at odds with today's dinner time. I reserved on the day for 2pm. I arrived, just before a booked time, I was told when seated the Sunday roast was sold out along with the sea bass. I know, perhaps I should have booked for 12 noon, or even 1 pm, but hey! It's Sunday, not working, as I often do on Sunday. Breakfast with my son in the Wonky goat at 10am, I'm not going to want dinner before 1.30pm, so 2pm sounds right, nice round figure. So 2pm it was with wife, daughter, son, and son in law. But no Sunday roast! So bangersanmash it was.. frankly I would have left but with family over that wasn't an option, so, £120 plus with drinks for what? Something I could have at a Greene King for half the price. People great, service great, view astounding, ambience great, product.....absent and replacement not worth it. After the roast was off, I sunk 3 beers in commiseration, would've been more, but, you know,....,...should have gone to the Garlic Farm, , same service but much better product at similar price....with garlic of course. So PLEASE!!!!!!!!! don't run out of Sunday roast on Sunday!!!!!!! Or book for 10am9am.........
Slow service. Concerns about infection control measures. There was a big focus given about covid precautions, however, didn't make sense that staff are picking up used drink glasses with their fingers inside the glass then picking up plates of food to serve customers. Tables and chairs sprayed with anti-bacterial spray but plastic menus just collected to be re-used without being cleaned!
Would definitely return, lovely staff and food.
