About The Blue River Cafe
The Blue River Café is situated on the banks of the river Thames and is the ideal place for customers to enjoy a long leisurely lunch or dinner looking out at the activity along the river.
We offer a warm welcome and great service along with excellent food at a reasonable price. We welcome families and our Sunday Carvery is a firm favourite with our regular guests.
Great setting but there was nobody else in the restaurant .
We came, but had to leave as the Chef didn’t turn up !!! So, no sorry, I would be very anxious about booking again ...
Excellent food and wine at reasonable prices
Good food, great service and lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.
Very bad service ...very dirrty place and disgusting food..
When I arrived for our lunch I was told there was no booking!!
Myself and my friend enjoyed the food and drinks for our afternoon tea it was very quiet the time we was there but service was good and foot tasty too . thank you
We hadn’t realised that you had changed from a more formal restaurant to a more casual dining experience with a smaller menu....however the food was really lovely, very reasonably priced and the service was great.
Had table for 3 booked for 7pm, arrived on time, were seated and given menus. At 7.05 a party of 14 arrived and the waitress began moving tables to accommodate them. At 7.20 the waitress then began taking THEIR order - she had not asked us for any drinks nor acknowledged us since seating us. Then the barman saw us and asked if we were being served - my reply was obvious and I expressed that I was very unhappy. STILL no-one came to take our order. We walked out disgusted and went to the Steakhouse half a mile towards Taplow.
Starters really good but too big. Mains not great, murgh curry not nice, no spicey heat. Good looked great but not so tasty . Staff were brilliant, helpful, fun , created great atmosphere .
Fawlty Towers on Thames. Chaotic service - is anyone in charge? Need more attentive and trained staff. Mundane food in dull, dreary and excessively noisy dining room. Broken window in bedroom (big chunk of window pane missing), window sash faulty, got early wake up call I didn't ask for, claim newsapers are available when they are not.... the list goes on and on.
On entry your shoes stick to the tiled floor which must be covered in spilled drink The menu is very limited and mainstream mainly burgers and fish and chips. There was little to no atmosphere. Location on the Thames is a positive. However not recommended we got up and went to The Boulters Lock which I can recommend.
The food and service was great the only criticism was a wobbly table
Had prawn in batter for starters.Last time I was here they were twice the size- very tasty but would like more! Sunday roast was very good value and we will return again & again.
We left as soon as we walked through the door. While this has once been a lovely place with a lovely atmosphere, the recent changes to the decor and set-up have turned the place into a lacklustre, unwelcoming, sad place. We had to go to Boulters Lock instead. Such a shame about the view, lovely building and amazing atmosphere and food you once had. We were really sadden to see the state of this once, lovely place which used to buzz with life and good atmosphere.
Absolutely Fabulous food and great fast service. With a great view over the beautiful river Thames.
Great place, very friendly staff, great food, Room was lovely, Hotel could do with a lick of paint in places, looks like it's a work in progress but overall great place to stay
Had a lovely lunch there this week. The food was delicious, especially the creamy mash!!!
Unfortunately our experience at The Blue River Cafe was not great at all. We ended up sitting inside, the only people sitting in side, as outside was far too hot. The atmosphere was very depressing inside, the interior was not well looked after at all. We ordered our food and it felt like it was the waiters first day. He had no idea what was on the menu and got confused very quickly. One of us order a salad with goats cheese, and he came back out to check if it was with chicken or fish. The food itself wasn't the best quality. My main course I felt I could get better quality food as a microwave meal from Tesco's. However others at our table did enjoy their food. Perhaps my choice wasn't the best. Then we ordered desserts, 3 of us ordered ice creams, 1 sorbet and 1 a brownie. The three of us that ordered the ice creams, one of our choices they didn't have so we asked for a different flavour. One ice cream turned up correct, two of them did not. The sorbet didn't turn up at all and we had to go a prompt the staff for this. When it turned up 1 scoop was sorbet, 1 was ice cream. Not what was ordered. We then went to pay and got charged for an additional ice cream! Over all, not the best experience at all. We didn't feel the restaurant was busy enough for the staff to make these sort of errors. Not a place we will be returning to unless it is completely renovated inside with brand new staff.
Nachos were supposed to have cheese and jalepenos but didn’t! The service was slow and slack. Cleanliness was awful!! The live music took over and was far to loud that you couldn’t hear yourself think-let alone have a conversation across the table. The smell of damp toilets as you enter the building was majorly off putting!! Sorry-we won’t be back.
Upon arrival, there was no-one to greet us or speak to regarding our booking. It took 5 minutes before someone came...no-one at the bar made an attempt to help either. Finally, we were shown to our table, the dining area looked very empty and the environment needed some tlc. The service was very slow, drinks, food and dessert ordering seemed to take forever and we couldn’t understand as we were one of 4 tables occupied in the restaurant ☹️ The one saving grace was that the food was pretty good and loved the Sunday roast, however the coffees arrived cold and my cappuccino was a filtered white coffee with chocolate sprinkles...very disappointing. Not sure we’ll be coming back.
The worst experience, the food was below average very sandy sald leaves please at least wash those leaves, fish was very smelly and not fresh, I was surprised how its allowed to serve such a low standard food to customers. Very disappointed please please please don't visit this place
Food was ok apart from a very fatty chop that spoilt my wifes meal, and the kids fahijas were so spicy...bill took a while to come but the duty manager apoligised for the poor food and reduced the bill accordinly which was fair enough..ideal location but needs more attention to detail..
