About The Blue River Cafe
The Blue River Café is situated on the banks of the river Thames and is the ideal place for customers to enjoy a long leisurely lunch or dinner looking out at the activity along the river.
We offer a warm welcome and great service along with excellent food at a reasonable price. We welcome families and our Sunday Carvery is a firm favourite with our regular guests.
Good but service vanished once main courses had been served
you do need to add more choice to the menu to get us back more frequently
We have a lovely time there thanks
Unfortunately because of the restrictions placed on you I have only given 3 stars for atmosphere - no one can create a nice atmosphere with these - however prior to coronavirus it was great - limited menu at present but the food was excellent thank you
If staff are given face masks to wear then wearing it under the chin or just covering the mouth is not good enough. If our table was cleaned before sitting at it, then I would have expected the spider webs to have been removed at the centre of the table on the umbrella pole.
Excellent food and a pleasure to dine there.
The best home made icecream in the universe! And the Sunday carvery had the most tender roast beef I have ever had! Delicious! And really friendly staff.
The food was good and nicely presented and couldn't fault the service
A pleasant surprise on this visit (Feb.21). We have been using the blue with a café for many years, and have therefore experienced the highs and lows of quality of food, variable level of staff service and waiting times and of course a gradual decline in the decor. However, over the last few years the family and grandchildren always enjoyed the Sunday Carvery Buffet, When everyone could choose their own items and as little or as much as they wanted. It was always excellent value for money and it was sad to discover on a recent visit that roast Sunday lunch was served already plated. Such a waste of food, as many of the party wouldn’t have chosen all the items put on, which covered with brown gravy.. And of course this meant a long wait for staff attention and service, whereas no wait for the buffet, perfect for younger diners. However on our Friday visit, just three of us,we were served by two excellent Italian waiters (brothers). Obviously they were well experience in customer care. The lunch was delicious—prawn cocktail, seabass with colcannon etc,and delicious deserts including ice creams and sorbets, all beautifully served. Please keep up this improvement in quality, presentation of food and excellent staff service, on this occasion. The decor, tables and chairs to do with a makeover as this is such a beautiful setting on the River Thames,
A thoroughly enjoyable evening! Nine of us. Very nice menu ,very tasty food, good quality & good sized servings. Cheerful ,smartly dressed, friendly & knowledgable waiter. Food served in good time & very reasonably priced. You must try the chefs speciality home made ice creams! Fab-u-Lous! Ginger....delicious!....avocado & pistacio, tangy lemon , chocolate brownie flavour, very creamy vanilla, & ever tried BLACK ice cream?!.....coconut & sepia! Mad but really nice! I will definitely be going back & would recommend it for a big group of people or just two. Great night! Thanks Blue River Cafe! 👍🥂
Fantastic food/ fabulous staff/extremely good value for money/ would strongly recommend
Very very slow and clearly no organisation. The large group of 10 on the table next to us kicked off when told after an hour and only half there order that the kitchen hadn't started the second half.
very disappointed to learn that you no longer accept the tasrecard this follows removal of loyalty discount card and despite promise that prices of drinks would fall the ones we have have never been reduced so basically feel cheated.
Service was very slow even though restaurant wasn't busy; roast beef was too tough to eat; three desserts were incorrect. Gave the appearance of being poorly managed with staff not well trained.
It was the Saturday between Christmas & New Year, so the restaurant was very quiet, which we quite liked. They were very flexible with some slight changes we asked to make, e.g. chips instead of mash etc.
Booked table for 11 guests on Saturday lunchtime at 2.45, wasn’t informed that restaurant shut at 3pm for private function. We were the only diners. Therefore no atmosphere for a Xmas lunch. Had a one hour battle with manager Jonathon Brown (?) to have Festive menu which was advertised to be available lunchtimes Monday-Saturday. He informed me I should have requested this at time of booking though this was not stated on menu/flyer. He admitted that was wrong but would not offer us the menu until I insisted this was what we wanted, and what was advertised. Appalling customer service, no interest shown in our booking whatsoever. I hasten to add the food and restaurant staff were good. However the lunch was spoiled by the attitude of somebody who shouldn’t be in the position of manager.
Thankyou to all the staff that were on helping to put up Dec's for my dad's 70th had a lovely afternoon
Waitress very friendly and attentive.
Great setting but there was nobody else in the restaurant .
We came, but had to leave as the Chef didn’t turn up !!! So, no sorry, I would be very anxious about booking again ...
Excellent food and wine at reasonable prices
Good food, great service and lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.
