About The Bistro at Cornhill Castle
We’ve got a delicious choice of traditional favourites along with our twist on some European classics.
We hope you enjoy our new menu in our wonderful surroundings.
Quiet night probably affected the atmosphere Service was fine, friendly and very polite, but we weren't given bread (side plates and butter suggested that we should have been) and we asked for jugs of water and had to wait a long time for them. Petty complaints really on what was a very good night and good eating out experience
Service was a little bit slow at times. Otherwise a very pleasant experience.
Very good location
Lovely venue and the afternoon tea with cakes was delicious
To clarify the ratings above, we found the meal we had in the Bistro very disappointing - we both ordered the 10oz ribeye steak from the chargrilled section of the menu, which being priced at £25, was expected to have been of restaurant standard, which this was far from. The meat seemed significantly below 10oz, was 1cm thick, and had not been chargrilled (the appearance was rather wet and grey). The accompanying elements were also below par - a fully raw tomato, oil soaked mushroom and questionable handcut chips. We appreciate the Bistro is not a steak restaurant but for that price we had expected food above pub quality, and this was significantly far from the mark. The overnight stay was pleasant, the service good and staff excellent - but to deliver the full package the food needs to be greatly improved.
the fridge in the room was great would be good to make people aware of this as it’s good to have
Location and decor were lovely. Staff were friendly. Food was disappointing. ‘Warm salad of smoked chicken and black pudding ‘ -was cold and with no black pudding. Pork belly was substituted with pork loin- this was tough and tasteless. Linguine was stodgy and unpleasant to eat. Creme brûlée was watery and inedible. We did highlight the issue with the salad to staff, but didn’t complain about other issues as we didn’t want to spoil what was supposed to be a celebration dinner.
Run out of lamb, trout and fillet steak!! What’s left?? Breakfast was complete, at least. And very nice.
We had a lovely time at Cornhill Castle and enjoyed our meal. We would definitely return for another visit.
Don't forget the coffee! Otherwise great.
We were somewhat surprised by the very slow service.
Really enjoyed our dinner at Cornhill, good value for money and great service, (especially Andy from Adelaide !). Beautiful venue and not rushed to leave. Ended up in the bar until midnight.
Very disappointed. Waiters had little knowledge of the drinks available. 2 if our meals were completely wrong. Cocktail took a very long time to make. An element was missing off on of the main meals and desserts. Staff didn’t seem interested in us. Having lived locally for many years, we chose cornhill as it was a special birthday meal. This was a hugely disappointing experience and we won’t be returning.
Food was nice, though I did ask for the sauce in a side dish in my salmon, it definitely had some sauce when they brought it out and they later brought the side dish. We also had breakfast there which was very average - being generous I’d give it a 5 out 10, scrambled eggs bland and over cooked. Not the standard of food or service I’d expect at a hotel of this quality
We came along to view as considering the venue for our wedding. The staff were lovely, so friendly and nothing was a hassle. The venue is gorgeous and balmoral suite is out of this world. We had lunch whilst there and it was such a gorgeous day so managed to eat outside. Unfortunately we cannot get the dates we wanted for our wedding but we 100% will be back for an overnight stay and some lunch again.
Took our mum for afternoon tea to celebrate her birthday. Was disappointed in almost all aspects of the visit. The atmosphere was dull, there didn’t appear to be many staff on. The sandwiches we received seemed stale and hard around the edges. We had to ask for the cutlery to go with our tea and were also only given one pot of tea between 4 people. I was very disappointed in the whole experience due to the price we paid for a few disappointing sandwiches. Also had to leave the table to find a member of staff for the bill as there was no one around.
Beautiful surroundings and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend
Thanks for a fantastic night , great food great service we will certainly return .
Lovely lunch with an old friend served by pleasant staff at a speed so we could talk and enjoy the moment Food was well cooked and well presented Will no doubt return
I feel that it's a little quiet in the dining area but apart from that it's excellent.
Beautiful castle and scenery! Would come back thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea!
Was so disappointed with the food during our visit on Sunday. My husband had booked for us to come on Mother’s Day as a surprise for me as I just had my daughter 3 weeks ago and we previously got married at cornhill in 2015. The food was very bland no taste at all everything had been reheated and very dry and the portion size was tiny, we then asked for sticky toffee pudding for dessert and waited over half and hour and it still was not out so we then told the waiter to cancel it and we kindly asked for the bill and left, still very hungry. Extremely let down as we were hopeful we could make it a regular mother’s day treat each year but would not go back for food. Hope yous can correct this asap Cornhill we have never had this experience before and been a few times in the previous years
A traversty from start to finish. Hence the reason why we didn’t pay for our meal. My booking was 18.15 not 18.45 or even 19.00 when we were eventually attended to. Can’t put into words how disappointed we were! Didn’t even see the Free glass of bubbly for each Mum!!!!
Really beautiful venue. Attentive staff and delicious food.
Wonderful lunch, all the food was delicious!
