About The Bistro at Cornhill Castle
We’ve got a delicious choice of traditional favourites along with our twist on some European classics.
We hope you enjoy our new menu in our wonderful surroundings.
Food was very good and staff friendly and efficient. View from our window in dining room was lovely .
The place needs refurbishing, too dark, too dull, no atmosphere. The young waiting staff tried their best.
Had stopped going to Cornhill Castle due to several poor lunches. Afternoon tea was lovely though.
Very pleased with our visit. The surroundings are beautiful.
The meal and service was excellent. The only (minor) gripe was that the private dining room was actually open to the next door reception room, with voices and conversations overheard, which was slightly less than private.
Everything was excellent. Very professional and friendly staff . Thank you
The curtains at our tables where every dusty and old & the window ledge hasn’t been wiped down there was some dust and a few flys on it. The food was amazing, the staff were lovely but the decore need updatinf and cleaning.
Excellent food, service and surroundings. Only comment to make was that 2 out of our 5 pre-dinner drinks arrived once we had left the bar area and were at our table.
A really enjoyable meal in pleasant surroundings served by friendly helpful staff
We are going to try to go out to the Cornhill Castle every month with friends,.You could start a Friends Night say once a month with either 10% discount or better still what we got on 3rd September 2018 was crusty bread with oil +? which was really a very nice touch. Also, you Staff were on the ball very very good.
Really enjoyed our evening meal in a very intriguing castle.
Had the afternoon tea and service was fabulous. Everything was so fresh, looking forward to trying out more of the menu.
Quiet night probably affected the atmosphere Service was fine, friendly and very polite, but we weren't given bread (side plates and butter suggested that we should have been) and we asked for jugs of water and had to wait a long time for them. Petty complaints really on what was a very good night and good eating out experience
Service was a little bit slow at times. Otherwise a very pleasant experience.
Very good location
Lovely venue and the afternoon tea with cakes was delicious
To clarify the ratings above, we found the meal we had in the Bistro very disappointing - we both ordered the 10oz ribeye steak from the chargrilled section of the menu, which being priced at £25, was expected to have been of restaurant standard, which this was far from. The meat seemed significantly below 10oz, was 1cm thick, and had not been chargrilled (the appearance was rather wet and grey). The accompanying elements were also below par - a fully raw tomato, oil soaked mushroom and questionable handcut chips. We appreciate the Bistro is not a steak restaurant but for that price we had expected food above pub quality, and this was significantly far from the mark. The overnight stay was pleasant, the service good and staff excellent - but to deliver the full package the food needs to be greatly improved.
the fridge in the room was great would be good to make people aware of this as it’s good to have
Location and decor were lovely. Staff were friendly. Food was disappointing. ‘Warm salad of smoked chicken and black pudding ‘ -was cold and with no black pudding. Pork belly was substituted with pork loin- this was tough and tasteless. Linguine was stodgy and unpleasant to eat. Creme brûlée was watery and inedible. We did highlight the issue with the salad to staff, but didn’t complain about other issues as we didn’t want to spoil what was supposed to be a celebration dinner.
Run out of lamb, trout and fillet steak!! What’s left?? Breakfast was complete, at least. And very nice.
We had a lovely time at Cornhill Castle and enjoyed our meal. We would definitely return for another visit.
Don't forget the coffee! Otherwise great.
We were somewhat surprised by the very slow service.
Really enjoyed our dinner at Cornhill, good value for money and great service, (especially Andy from Adelaide !). Beautiful venue and not rushed to leave. Ended up in the bar until midnight.
Very disappointed. Waiters had little knowledge of the drinks available. 2 if our meals were completely wrong. Cocktail took a very long time to make. An element was missing off on of the main meals and desserts. Staff didn’t seem interested in us. Having lived locally for many years, we chose cornhill as it was a special birthday meal. This was a hugely disappointing experience and we won’t be returning.
