About The Bistro at Cornhill Castle
We’ve got a delicious choice of traditional favourites along with our twist on some European classics.
We hope you enjoy our new menu in our wonderful surroundings.
Amazing food, pleasant lovely staff and a beautiful setting, highly recommended,we will definitely be back. Thank you to all
Excellent meal. Lunch menu was slightly limited but great food and value.
Wonderful Sunday Roast Dinner perfectly rounded off with delish tablet ice-cream and hot butterscotch sauce.
Excellent food and fantastic service
Good music was playing so that helped with the atmosphere as it was quiet when we visited. I felt the service was quite slow and staff round about us seemed more interested in setting the tables round about us rather than clearing our plates away. There was quite a while to wait between courses which I found odd given it was quiet and plenty staff were available
We stayed at one of the newly refurbished rooms, which was beautifully decorated. Unfortunately the dining experience did not match the standard of the accommodation. When ordering the waitress then advised that my choice was not available and when the food arrived it was fine - but really quite average. The desert looked like it had come out of a packet. The waiting staff were not attentive but friendly enough. Breakfast in the morning was the same and we had to keep asking for cups, cutlery etc. The atmosphere is pretty flat in the restaurant and there was horrible music being played in the morning - which we and another party asked to be changed. Not a disastrous experience but certainly nothing that would inspire me to return.
Excellent venue, exceptional team at Cornhill. Made us feel very welcome, extremely helpful with every request. Everyone enjoyed the night. Thank you very much.
Thought some of our starters- e.g bruschetta and the baked beetroot, didn't quite live up to our expectations. Main meals were mixed; ham and peach salad was lovely, but the fish (fish & chipe) were dry. Staff were very friendly, though a long wait after being shown to our table.
Everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their meal. All had steaks. Delicious, melt in the mouth, no steak knives required.
Great location set in beautiful grounds .Food was very good with a good selection on the menu. And the staff were so friendly and really couldn't do any more for our party. Will be back
Plate of three minute scallops for £10 was a disgrace. Far too expensive in general for the meal we had. I would say the food was nice but certainly not fabulous.
We have been to Cornhill House twice, once was for a birthday meal in the private dining and the meal and service was nice. The second time was for Fathers Day and the meal was average I could of been eating in any restaurant the 4* standard certainly wasn't on the plate. Overpriced and service wasn't great. Location is stunning which is definitely what attracts people just a shame the standard of food and service let it down.
Excellent food, our party all had different starters and main meals, beautifully presented and delicious. Despite been extremely busy and with a wedding on at the same time we were served promptly with very friendly and attentative staff who could not do enough for you. A big shout to Andy who took the time to chat to us. Looking forward to going back very soon.
just had an amazing night at Cornhill Castle, where the room was to top standards,as well as meal, and staff where exceptionally friendly and helpfull, especially Andy who gave us a tour and some background history.will definetley be back soon
The food was really lovely, however, the fish batter was a little soft and soggy but didn't put me off to finish it. Will definitely be back and looking forward to our stay in October.
No fish in Cullen skink, and not well seasoned. Duck tasty, noodles would have benefitted from a few vegetables stirred through.. waitresses very courteous.
The experience was 1st class. Nice touch as it was our anniversary and there was a nice surprise in the room. Ian the manager even took time to show us the new rooms as we have a family wedding planned at Cornhill. Just a wee bit of feedback at breakfast it would be good if the staff showed you to your table rather than telling you to sit anywhere more professional. At breakfast it took a while for the order to be taken and for the food to arrive. It wasn't overly busy when the food came it was excellent though.
Very relaxing and no pressure to finish and leave. So nice to catch up with friends in such a beautiful setting.
Great setting / location and an all round thoroughly enjoyable dining experience
Went for Mother's Day and service was excellent very prompt. The food was excellent and great value for money.
I often visit Cornhill Castle with my family on special occasions. Visited yesterday with my family for mothers day. The atmosphere was really nice, lovely day outside and some nice music playing. Had some drinks in the lounge- was scared the bar men were going to spill the tray of drinks behind my Gran as they appeared inexperienced. Lady took our order, asked for sea bream without the lemon and herb dew, fish and chips with veg and no salad along with other main courses. We sat about table and we're given bread- normally this is a nice warm roll- however it's changed to hard bread which wasn't as tasty. The starters arrived which was fine. The mains arrived with dew on the sea bream and salad with the fish and chips which we were told wouldn't be a problem to change. Asked young girl for the veg and she said she would bring some. The duck breast was a piece of duck meat with plain noodles with some sauce not much to it at all. The veg didn't arrive for the fish and when it eventually did we were finished our meals. When clearing the plates the waitress dropped a piece of lemon from the fish and chips plate onto the floor, two waiters and the waitress actually walked across the lemon with clearly seeing it but didn't bother to pick it up- I was worried my Gran would stand on it if she stood up. We ordered deserts because we were still hungry as the portion sizes have obviously got smaller recent times in comparison to what we're used to at the Cornhill. The tablet ice cream has significantly reduced in size and the tablet sauce was difficult to get out of the milk jugs it was provided in as not big enough to get a spoon into. Disappointment was shares to young girl when she asked how our meal was bug nobody followed up in this. I asked for her to feedback to her team but no apology was made. We were looking forward to visiting the castle after meeting the new manager some months ago but it seems like lots of cut backs have made the experience here not so authentic and enjoyable as usual. Normally wouldn't hesitate to recommend but this time it was truly disappointing. I feel the staff do need more training to help with their confidence when dealing with customers.
Relaxed evening with great service and delicious food. Will definitely return again.
We left. The staff weren't all that welcoming and the Bistro menu was unavailable. The restaurant menu is much poorer than under previous ownership although perhaps cheaper to manage. My mum didn't like the fish courses and doesn't eat other meat. I am vegetarian and could cook ravioli at home for much less than the price quoted. Got the impression that they could have been doing with no customers except hotel guests. Sorry.
The overall meal was lovely and the food was lovely the only negative point was the length of time we sat at our table waiting on our meal, especially with a young child as it is hard trying to entertain a 3yrs old child to sit and be reasonably quiet while other guests are eating their meal
