About The Bell Oxford
Opened in 2009, The Bell at Hampton Poyle is a delightful 9 bedroomed, independent, privately owned Boutique Hotel, Pub and Restaurant . The charm of this century's old historic Pub has been complimented by the contemporary design of the restaurant. Flagstone floors, oak beams and large leather armchairs set the tone in this classic English Inn.
Although it was extremely quiet because of the coronavirus it was still a good experience. No trouble parking! Overall, the food was very good as we have come to expect- it is a place you can rely on. The celeriac and apple soup was delicious and put to shame some I have been offered in other establishments. My only negative comment is that my flatbread with the grilled prawns was not as good as usual- rather heavy and lacking in taste. The garlic flat bread my son had was much nicer. Service was friendly and excellent as always. Mo
Excellent meal as always, roast beef exceptional!
We love eating at The Bell
3rd but not last visit.
Great pub , lovely staff. Always enjoy meals there
We love The Bell! Consistently high standards of food and service.
Always wonderful here. Amazing new menu. Great service. Always reluctant to tell people about this place as I don’t want it to get too popular!
Stayed a few times when our son was at Oxford & keep returning.
The Bell has become a regular meeting place for a group of friends who live far apart. We love the decor, ambience, the food and the service. Yes, it's quite pricey but the quality is excellent.
Excellent food, friendly service and lovely atmosphere. Restaurant and bar staff are to be commended. Second time at The Bell and will return. Wonderful find.
Everything was just perfect as always. The only disappointing thing - we couldn’t add gratuity on a card payment . Will definitely be back and leave double tip next time as staff was fab!
Excellent food friendly service Lovely atmosphere
Excellent meal, great service
I love visiting the Bell I cannot fault it in anyway.
We stayed in room 1 on Valentines evening. It’s a beautiful room. The food as it is always was fabulous. Great service even though it was a busy evening for the staff... well ldone. We are already looking forward to our next meal.
Valentine's menu, good choices, well presented and well cooked.
Lovely food a little expensive but very nice experience
Food over the last 3 years since we found the Bell has been consistently great, however in the last 6 months everything has got even better - especially the food. Our favourite restaurant in Oxfordshire. Elegant restaurant and excellent bar with snugs. Service is always very professional and everything done to a high standard. Not cheap but worth every penny. One of those places in life that you are just so happy to have found!
I always enjoy The Bell; the staff are friendly and attentive, the menu is varied and the prices are very reasonable. It's a great venue.
An excellent meal. Just one of our party of 8 was slightly disappointed with their vegetables (purple sprouting was too undercooked), otherwise all very good. Loved the table in the library and have booked again for April. Staff really professional and friendly. Lovely to meet Lydia again!
Tried the roast with trio of meats but in my case the beef with just far too rare and also not tender. Very difficult to cut through it. The rest of the meat and vegetables were great as was the service but the that meat just let it down. I had to leave it all.
As always - fabulous food served by friendly efficient staff in a well-designed pub with a great atmosphere!
We ordered the cote de boeuf after being tempted at all our other visits to the bell. But with the hefty cost had put it off until now. The beef was absolutely delicious and did not disappoint, perfectly cooked! Unfortunately we were served almost raw vine tomatoes which had barely seen the inside of the oven which when paying £35 each and it stating confit tomatoes on the menu was disappointing, also no sign of the chive and shallot butter, we mentioned this to the waiter who didn’t have much to say. The beef was perfect and the chips were but the sides were disappointing with such an expensive dish. Also never great to receive a dish not as described on the menu and with explanation from the wait staff. Then to charge £2 for a sauce on top felt like a real liberty in all honesty.
A delicious meal with very friendly and accommodating staff.
