About The Begging Bowl
The Begging Bowl opened its doors in 2012, offering heady, authentic Thai flavours sourced directly from grocers in Bangkok coupled with fresh fish and meat from local suppliers. Sitting on a prime corner plot with a beautiful open terrace, The Begging Bowl has become part of the community in Peckham and we’re proud to have created a friendly, vibrant space where locals come regularly to enjoy great food and homely service.
The inspiration for our food comes from every province of Thailand. We explore all the wonderful regionality of Thai food, from the creamy curries of the Muslim south to the fiery grilled meats from Issan in the North East.
We use specialist ingredients such as hog plum, rambutan, rose apple, banana blossoms and apple aubergines and source them fresh to retain their flavor, rather than waiting for them to go into storage like many ingredients imported from Asia.
We’re extremely happy to source many of our Thai ingredients from fellow Nahm graduates, Bo.lan in Bangkok who are dedicated to finding the best produce in Thailand.
When you come to the restaurant you’ll experience the vibrant and complex tastes that balance the classic Thai flavour palate of hot, sour, sweet and salty. Every detail is thought of and every component is made from scratch in our kitchens. (The Begging Bowl inherited from Nahm what we think is still the only coconut press in the UK – we call it “Kuno” – and we use it to press all our fresh coconut cream.)
All our dishes come as small sharing plates, with unlimited glutinous and jasmine rice, so people can enjoy their food together just as friends and family do all over Thailand.
Our drinks also reflect our passion for combining the East and West. Head bartender, Michele Di Firmo and our small team of talented bar team painstakingly create each of our cocktails from homemade ingredients such as lemongrass infused whisky, Thai basil bitters and barrel aged negroni – which can take up three months to produce.
Unfortunately your takeaway is fully booked .grrrrr... Anyways since dining we have regularly thought we must try to cook ourselves the venison dish which we thought an excellent dish....any suggestions how to create would be appreciated ?
Just great, been before, but seemed better this time, again!
Delicious food and friendly, attentive service.
unimprovable! A particularly big thanks for the lovely service.
Excellent and tasty food. Stunning flavours. Attentive wait staff and beautiful surroundings. Covid-secure as well. Please try the condensed milk ice cream- it is unbelievable! But 4 dishes for 2 people is definitely one too many particularly with the unlimited rice.
So lucky to have this restaurant around the corner from home. Love how they vary the menu and always produce new flavour combos that us and the kids love. They are also a fantatsicly lovely team!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Even the music was spot on. The hung lae braised pork belly was outstanding.
Best Thai food in London and exceptional service
Unreal food and service was really prompt and personal. Great night
Attentive friendly service but not intrusive. Dishes always interesting and the flavours sublime - love that Thai salad with pomelo. Great night out, felt very safe.
Some of the nicest food I’ve had in a while
The food was absolutely delicious and the staff were all super friendly & helpful - highly recommend
always amazing food and service
Stunning food as always.
Loved the deep fried sea bass!
Delicious food and fantastic, friendly service, notwithstanding all the COVID weirdness. Thank you!
Love the tapioca dumplings however the ribs were very fatty, with little/no meat which was disappointing.
I have been coming to Beggingbowl for many years and it’s always been my favourite restaurant! I have however seen the prices increase so much over time with their clever way of presenting the dishes as sharing plates etc. It has now become an infrequent treat as appose to a restaurant I used to go to more regularly. The atmosphere continues to be spot on with great service just be aware you’re looking at £100 for a couple very very easily...
This was my second visit to the Begging Bowl and hopefully I'll be able to visit again before the end of 2020. Fantastic food and excellent service as usual.
Amazing food and cocktails
