About The Bear Hotel
The Bear is the bustling heart of the charming town of Cowbridge. Ever since anyone can remember, it’s been a gracious gathering place to meet, talk, celebrate, socialise and stay. It began life in medieval times as the town house to Llanmihangel, a local country house – both still standing today.
Replete with nooks, crannies and tales to make your hair curl, The Bear has a special spot for everyone, from modern glitz to gracious 18th century ballroom. Whether you’re after boutique shopping and chic cocktails, fine dining with friends or a bracing coastal stride* followed by a local pint, The Bear has a corner for you. We often wish the walls could talk. We’d love you to come and add to our stories.
Had a very nice lunch served in the Courtyard - lovely sitting out on a warm, sunny day. Hope to visit again soon!!
Two poor Greek salads marred this particular Visit to the Bear. Not we have come to expect from one of our favourite dining venues. We thought £11 for a plate of lettuce too high. We did speak to our waitress who relayed our complaint to Chef. We were offered complimentary desserts but accepted coffees in lieu.
Excellent service and Covid measures in place. Food fantastic as always.
Couldn’t ask for more, fantastic service, gorgeous setting and food was outstanding. Can’t wait to return!
Social distancing precautions were very well implemented and we felt very safe and secure whilst enjoying a fantastic lunch
Everything was very good, my only slight complaint was it took too long in between courses. There were three tables that came in after us who got their main meals before us. From starters to main course took over 40 minutes. But very good overall
Great place to eat out, always good food
The two people who served us were fantastic helpful fun and smiling. Perfect
Lovely staff, atmosphere a little quiet could have done with a bit of background music. Food was nice but could have been better. Steak was fantastic but chips were undercooked. But we would visit again
Lovely lunch and catch up in nice surroundings with friendly staff.
Have been hear on several occasions since reopening. Thoroughly enjoyed each visit equally. Would highly recommend.
Despite the coronavirus restrictions, your staff were friendly, efficient and attentive throughout the evening. Top class food, as always.
This was our first return visit post Covid. The staff were wonderful explaining about the safety measures in place and putting us at ease to enjoy our dining experience. We were swiftly served by Zara and received a high level of service throughout our meal. We will definitely be returning soon and recommend The Bear, Cowbridge for Sunday lunch.
Excellent service. Beautiful food.
A very enjoyable experience. Lovely setting, attentive staff.
Pleased with all the measures that had been implemented. Very reassured with all the necessary antivirus protection. Pleasent staff.
My fish was a bit dry and my Dad thought the chips were under done (I didn’t). Staff were lovely and setting was ok although not much atmosphere.
Me and my wife returned for our 1st anniversary to the place we had our wedding which was an unbelievable day as it was but to return and have each member of staff make a fuss and remember exactly who we were was amazing. The food was and always is incredible, some may say that the food maybe pricey but you cant really put a price on great sourced ingredients and flavour that they use for each dish, I have never had a mediocre meal at the bear (even at busy times) everyone provides outstanding service at the bear and We were very fortunate to have our wedding at the right time to enjoy everything the bear had to offer at the time, big thank you to all the staff again for a great night, great food and great atmosphere. Thanks again, The Ayre’s.
We had a lovely meal at the Bear hotel. If you had to be picky, the pepper sauce could have had a little more consistency to it but that is being picky. Was a fabulous even with great service..
We arrived early and was seen to straight away but towards the end we were sat waiting a while for a drink we had asked for and also for our table to be cleared and deserts to order and then took ages to come.
I chose the surf and turf, which was a filet steak and crevette’s Sadly I was served a great steak but with frozen king prawns ( tasteless) - no shells etc for £30 without any Side sauce and basic sides it was a disappointment. My son had the Cajun burger which was over spiced The service was really good, the team were enthusiastic and hardworking The basic food let them down
A lovely lunch with beautiful sunshine an added bonus.
My sister and I took our mum out for a birthday lunch, we were seated in the court yard under a marquee, we were fortunate to have beautiful weather which was lovely considering the setting but I'm sure it would have still been comfortable even in bad weather. Food was delicious, I had the belly pork and the cheesecake is dreamy. Thank you, my mum thoroughly enjoyed.
Lovely meal ,Although could do with few more chips ....think we had 6 each!
