Great Sunday lunch , with drinks in the sunshine to start with !
Food excellent , service good but had to ask for the bill 3 times before finally receiving it.
I cannot speak highly enough of our post-wedding celebrations held in the Cellar room. The two lovely girls who looked after us were so attentive yet discreet, super-friendly and unflappable even when dealing with multiple requests from our guests. Everything ran so smoothly thanks to the pair of them. The food was out of this world - our guests haven't stopped talking about it! Especially loved the quirky details like the bread baked and delivered to the table in plant pots. We were a sizeable party of 33 yet all the food came out together piping-hot and there was plenty to go around. The chicken especially was delicious! The room itself is gorgeous. We arrived to beautiful (Pinterest-worthy!) place settings and tables full of potted cabbages and candles which meant we didn't need to worry about adding anything else. A huge thank you from both of us, the afternoon exceeded our expectations and we'll remember it forever! Simon and Kate x
First time I’ve been to the Beacon and I fell in love , gorgeous venue , great food and the staff were excellent. Can’t wait to return
This was our second time at The Beacon (first time wasn't great) but this time, the staff were amazing, food was really good and the whole dinning experience was a pleasant experience. Many thanks
Lovely Sunday lunch. Great food, service and atmosphere.
Incredible experience which lived up to my very high expectations. A special mention to Terry who was the perfect host and added a touch of refinement to the surroundings.
Fantastic food and great service. Really friendly staff
Excellent service by attentive staff as always but thought that the portions were a little small, particularly my duck and the vegetables could have been cooked a little more. The flavours were lovely however..
Beautiful settings and extremely relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal on Sunday. Food was spot on. The Birthday acknowledgement from the waiter was a really special touch.
A lovely evening. Great venue. Never disappoints.
This was our second visit and we were not disappointed! Wonderful food, the salmon starter and beef short rib main was delicious as was my husband’s hake main course. We shall return again!
Consistently good. Congratulations
Hake was excellent
Hadn't been to The Beacon since the change of ownership and look what I've been missing! Started with a fabulous cocktail, moved to delicious duck and finished with yummy fudge and chocolate. Service was friendly and discreet. We'll not leave it so long to visit again!
Beautiful setting and very friendly staff. Great for dogs too.
Fabulous evening. Staff were amazing especially as we had dietary requirements. Can't wait to be going back again.
I've eaten at The Beacon on several occasions and it has never let me down. I was presented with a chocolate surprise at the end of the meal as I believe someone overheard my son saying it was my birthday. A lovely touch and shows just how attentive the service is without being intrusive.
Lovely Sunday roast
I’ve enjoyed Sunday lunches at The Beacon in the past (just over a year ago). I’m a good cook & so never expect a roast dinner in any restaurant to be as good as my own. It never has been until I enjoyed a host roast at The Beacon with about 20 friends early last year. For the first time ever I had a perfect roast out. This month I have been twice (Sunday 23 Sept & Sunday 30 Sept). I’ve been really, really disappointed on both occasions. Both times the food served has not been freshly prepared. Everything was dry and congealed. The roast chicken we had last week was bone dry and the beef we had yesterday was appalling - probably the worst roast beef I have had anywhere, ever. The roast potatoes on both occasions were shameful, nasty, rock hard little bullets. The cauliflower cheese dry with no bite to the cauliflower. The gravy, just a thick salty liquid with no other flavour. The entire meal had been over cooked in advance, hung around for god knows how long & then reheated on demand. I often have to cook a roast dinner for 20+ in my domestic kitchen. I know that considerable advance preparation needs to happen. I also know how to do that successfully without ruining food. Whoever’s been cooking at The Beacon for the last 2 Sunday’s doesn’t. The bread served before the roast yesterday was just turning stale. The crumble on both occasions was a sugary, sloppy mix of apple with some other fruit. Before our meal yesterday my husband & daughter ordered a Bloody Mary each (because I’d raved about the one I had last year as being the best I’d ever tasted) ... they were served a tasteless glass of what seemed to be just vodka & tomato juice. When my husband asked at the bar for some Tabasco the barman barked at him that they had run out of Tabasco. Missing the key ingredient for even the most basic, pub-standard Bloody Mary, I suggest removing the option from the drinks menu would’ve been prudent. Last Sunday (23rd) when I was in a private room with friends the service from waiting staff was perfect. Yesterday all the staff actually serving the table were polite, friendly & helpful but clearly rushed off their feet & so things were slow. I’d booked a table yesterday to celebrate my Mum’s birthday. She’d asked to go to The Beacon because I’d sung it’s praises so highly. When I left last Sunday disappointed, I’d hoped it was just a one-off and that my family meal the following week would be the standard I’d enjoyed previously. It wasn’t. Two weeks on the trot tells me that this is the new standard for The Beacon. I’ve apologised to my family & feel quite embarrassed. This isn’t something I would raise at the table with waiting staff so I’m raising it now. The appalling food isn’t the waiting staff’s fault and I suspect that any cook/chef happy to serve that second-rate fodder isn’t one who’s interested in what the customers think. Stop being greedy. You’re cutting corners in every area and still charging top dollar for substandard on every level.
Amazing environment, incredible staff and the food is divine!
We had a wonderful time at The Beacon. We all had the burgers which were absolutely delicious, 2 starters to share, wonderful G&T’s and delicious glass of rosé. All served by charming staff on a warm, sunny terrace! What’s not to like?!! Still a top, top, favourite spot for an outstanding meal! Thank you Beacon!!
The ratings and my chances of recommending to a friend might seem slightly out of line here. The food, service, setting and surroundings were all great. A beautiful place to spend an evening with a calm and welcoming atmosphere - all of the courses we had were well presented and cooked pretty much perfectly. The waiting staff we had were all great, friendly and I have no cause to complain at all. Apart from one thing...one of the staff in the restaurant had unbearable body odour. It was just a bit of a whiff from a Long day’s work but that sort of ingrained Long term smell after not washing clothes for a Long time or using deodorant. I was a school teacher a few years ago and know full well how these poor levels of personal hygiene come about. Sad to say I that we won’t recommend any of our friends and family to come along I’m afraid - we may come back in the summer when the weather is better and we can sit outside but for now that is what has stuck with me from our visit yesterday.
This is the most delightful setting and with great food it becomes a real treat. You must go there.
