About The Baths
The Clontarf Baths and Assembly Rooms, as it was known, opened circa 1886 and featured a large, tidal, seawater swimming pool that juts out from the promenade wall into the bay. It closed in 1996, 110 years after it opened. The Baths is now owned by a Dublin family who have lovingly refurbished the baths and built this unique restaurant out front.
We aim to be an inviting, lively and vibrant meeting point of Clontarf.
Join us for a family-style, high quality, but a bit daring, food, beer and cocktails. The Baths is a historic location with scenic atmosphere. We are witty, playful and bold way with a touch of classic Dublin. At The Baths, you should feel just as comfortable here for casual & relaxed dinner as you are in suits & sequins.
Great location. Take some time to have a beer at the bar.
As a first time customer I was so impressed with everything that the Baths had to offer , from a lovely welcome from the hostess to a truly professional and friendly service from the waiting staff, followed by a superb meal , it lived up to my expectations, only one slight on the evening was the price of the “dish of the day “ €28 was a little over priced for a salmon dish , as it’s not priced on the menu I think our server should mention it while taking our order. We’ll be back as it was a lovely experience.
Very disappointed with the size of the "special" of the night, hake. Two of the men on our group had the special for €25 and were left hungry!
You have created a lovely and fun restaurant space; however, 2 in our party ordered the Dublin Bay prawns as a main course and one extra to have enough. Sadly and surprisingly, the prawns were mush. Don't know how the chefs prepared them, think they way over-boiled them, then flash-grilled to finish, but they were bad. Sorry as our goats cheese starters and desserts were lovely. Wishing you success - Mrs Marty McCleary
Loved the place. Absolutely stunning inside with great food and staff. Would highly recommend The Baths especially for sea food lovers. Well done to all most definitely will return.
Very friendly staff , good atmosphere, great size portions , will definitely eat here again very soon
loved the decor. lovely for brunch. little bit chilly by the door, even though we sat inside. Nice staff
The food was good but jot exceptional. There was a couple with 4 kids put beside me and my friend and the children were throwing things and knocking into us the whole time- when there was space everywhere. We treated ourselves yo a mimosa each and nearly fainted when we saw thw cost of 14 eurp per drink on the receipt. The mimosa cost more than my breakfast and it was the most lacklustre thing ive ever drank. I wouldnt be rushing back.
Staff couldn’t have been better they were absolutely lovely and the desert was amazing but the strip loon has to be the most tasteless steak I have ever had, along with the watery peppered sauce and reheated chips. Definitely come back for a coffee and ice cream but wouldn’t recommend the food to anyone, very disappointed.
Excellent. Jimmy was great. Cheers. Helen x
Lovely evening with friends
Teething troubles improved
This restaurant has many problems to address. No welcome on arrival, the staff are badly trained and unprofessional, there doesnt seem to be anyone in charge, the background music is dreadful and we had a very bad dining experience. One of us didn’t finish the meal-the lamb was tough. No one asked why or were we happy with the meal.We were told there were only three of the specials left and that was at 7.45...I have been here 3 times now and won’t be going again.Your front of house is non existent the lady who showed us to our table was disinterested and indifferent.Menu is hugely overpriced. This place doesn’t seem to know what direction it is going in...Someone needs to take charge because so many people have said to me “never again”.
We had mentioned when booking we had two children with us so the seats allocated beside the pass were not ideal. Also mentioned we were there for a special birthday and the table behind us got sparklers in dessert which was slightly embarrassing when my mother in law thought it was for her. The waiter on the evening was quite impatient, we had to translate the menu for my parents and he asked twice while doing so if we were ready to order. Also cleared our plates as soon as each individual finished and tried to take my son's dessert before he was finished...bad move:) Restaurant is nice, quirky and interesting and we were blessed with the weather but not value for money and we felt bothered by our waiter.
An overall really lovely experience. Online booking system so easy to use. Staff were all very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Overall a very pleasant evening. Thanks to everyone
Fabulous night. Ambiance brilliant. 5 people with different meals and not a single complaint. Food great. Service top notch and can't wait to go back.
I had previously visited the baths for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it so couldnt wait to try out dinner there. However, it fell short on quite a few areas for this visit. On arrival we were seated and given menus...all fine. When we were ready to order our waiter barely said three words to us, didnt repeat our order and ran off before we could order drinks. Tried to get someone's attention for a few minutes after to order some drinks. When we finally managed to order, we didnt then receive our drinks and had to prompt them again after 15 minutes of waiting. My gin then arrived without tonic and no sign of my partners coke. Had to ask a third time for the correct drinks order to be brought. By the time it arrived we were already half way through our main course (which arrived to our table while we were still eating our bread and 10 minutes after ordering it - reminded me more of a fast food restaurant than a fine dining one). The rest of the evening was lovely as was the interiors and atmosphere but the service needs to be fine tuned in order for guests to get the most out the experience, especially for the prices being paid!
The location and decor are lovely, the outside area is great for a glass of wine over looking the water. Could be more tables just outside the restaurant and on the upper level to use a wine bar. Make use of the space. Didn't like the menus on a coloured printed piece of paper stapled together. We were told there was 3 things not on the menu by three different waiting staff (communication could be better) or a waiting staff dedicated to an certain area. Bread came out to the table which was fab with a really nice dip but 2mins later our food arrived so could not really enjoy the bread. Food was lovely. Loved that you could order 2 different size glasses of wine :) Overall nice experience and decor was fab, would be lovely to be able to just drop in just for a glass of wine and not have to reserve a table (not sure if this is possible)
We were unhappy that our main courses were served just as our starters were being finished. The food was delicious and served hot.The bar closes at 11.30 which we were not informed about and so missed out on having an after dinner drink. Overall, nice food but expensive too.
Great, atmosphere will definitely be back !!
I asked for a nice table by the window and was put down the end of the restaurant where is was quite dark and could not see the pool. Disappointing. The fish skillet was delicious and I was delighted that you stocked the non-alcoholic gin - Seed Lip - the waitress was kind enough to give me a sample too. The cheese board was pricey at €12 euro but perhaps that was for two as there was a huge amount of cheese with some lovely walnuts and crackers.
Lived up to my expectations I will be back
First time visiting. Very pleasant staff and lovely food. Great setting and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and come back.
