About The Bat & Ball
Richard, Caroline and their team are very much looking forward to welcoming you from the 1st October. Following an amazing two and half years running Haywards Restaurant at Hurtwood Park, they are extremely excited to be re launching as The Bat & Ball Country Pub and Haywards Restaurant.
Set in the heart of the Sussex countryside they will be serving seasonal dishes in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Their bar boasts a great selection of real ales alongside a carefully selected wine list and soft drink selection and is a great place to enjoy a light bite in front of an open fire.
Alternatively dine in the restaurant and enjoy the a la carte menu showcasing dishes carefully selected by Head Chef Adam.
The Bat & Ball will also offer the ideal location for weddings, private parties, special occasions and other celebratory affairs. The surrounding grounds and gardens will all be available to hire and the pub itself has a number of private areas that are perfect for office lunches and dinners.
Nice reception, service seemed a bit disjointed with waiters coming out with food / beverage orders but not knowing which table to serve these to.... My starter of Thai spiced fishcakes was very tasty but there was hardly any food on my plate, for £7... My wife's fish of the day was clearly not fresh (rather slimy in texture) but tasted all right. The spit roast chicken was slightly overcooked, which made the legs ok but the breast too dry. Not bad enough to complain about and not the best meal but the lovely setting made up for it a bit.
Thank you to all, it was my birthday and we had my friends 18month old with us, staff were attentive and friendly, food was wonderful, and they put in extra effort with my dessert as it was my birthday. Thank you to all for such a lovely lunch!
Lovely looking establishment- first impressions excellent. Service needs improvement - no table reAdy when we had prebooked via internet and waitresses courteous but cold. Long awkward wait to be seated. Eventually nice table. Food wise, Food was edible but disappointing. Some recipes were creative & experimental with ingredients (shiitake mushroom and mustard and gnocchi in their “pork and mushroom” dish ) -it didn’t really work but you could eat it. My partners plaice was bland and old (flesh was not firm) without much sauce. We were disappointed as the meal was also expensive £16 for each dish. Perhaps expensive mistake to have chosen this restaurant.
I was genuinely impressed by my visit to The Bat & Ball. We were warmly welcomed by bar staff & promptly shown to our table. The staff continued to be friendly, willing & generally very attentive throughout our time there, which meant we could properly relax. The food was delicious too, I was delighted to be able to mix the roast meats on offer ad I was having a tough time deciding between them! A lovely, friendly atmosphere & loved seeing people bringing in their dogs too. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our visit as good as it was... I'll definitely be coming back!
Confusing place to eat. staff are extremely friendly and it is a lovely location. But if they are serving a la carte food surely a drinks menu woudnt go a miss or a smarter menu, anything other than two pieces of paper with a small selection of sides and mains. The food was lovely but just not enough variety. Needs to make it's mind up as to what direction it wants to go in.
A friend and I sat for 45mins for someone to attend our table to ask if we would like anything to drink, this was after being told on arrival someone would be with us in a few moments! When no one came I went to ask if we were to order at the bar? We then waited a following hour for one starter! (Pate and bread - bread which was two tiny crisp size pieces of which only accommodated a quarter of the pate - total waste of money) we the waited another hour and a quarter for mains which we decided to cancel as wait became ridiculous!!! Thankfully we were refunded our drinks and starter! - However very disappointed and totally ruined our evening!!!!!!
Thank you so much for putting on such a special event for the Hen Party, every aspect was fantastic and we all had a fantastic time! It would be great if we could see some of the pictures that were taken? The best cocktail making masterclass I’ve been to! Susie
A brilliant venue for celebration - with the ‘snug’ being perfect for a group of 16. The staff (beforehand & during the evening) were extremely helpful and the evening went brilliantly with attentive but not intrusive service - thank you!!
We thought the mains for the dinner menu were a little unadventurous, infact 4 of us chose the same thing, the Thai Green curry. It was ok but I think had been thickened with flour or the like and didn't the fresh tangly flavours of ginger, coriander lemongrass with coconut.
We had a fabulous Mothers Day meal here and they fed 12 of us with complete ease!
What a find! Had a lovely evening with Daniel and Louis working the bar. Very friendly and welcoming as soon as we walked through the door. How refreshing! Food was really good . Love that it’s not an extensive menu, when often quality suffers. Will definitely return with friends and family. Thanks to all the staff in the restaurant too.
Always a lovely friendly welcome by all staff. Delicious Sunday lunch, succulent beef and perfectly cooked vegetables . Nice cosy atomosphere as well.
We came upon this pub as a halfway point for 3 friends to meet as it is about 80 mins away for us all This is our second visit and we intend to come monthly. A really lovely setting, great food - bar food with a twist beautifully presented and good wine and friendly staff A real gem look forward to our next visit.
The bat & ball was a lovely place to visit, the service and atmosphere was great. The menu wasn't extensive which i assume allows them to concentrate on the meals they want to produce but a few more options would be appreciated. They had run out of a few options as well which didn't help. Overall we might go back but not for certain.
A super venue and lovely attentive staff. A great country pub and varied menu
We felt that the food could of been presented a little better , staff we good , atmosphere was great will be returning.
Excellent food in lovely surroundings, would definitely recommend
Had really enjoyable meal with family last night. Lovely, cosy atmosphere. Very good menu choice and we all enjoyed the dishes we chose, particularly the desserts! Staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely return soon!
Delicious roast dinner for all. Never a bad meal here. Lovely roaring fires.
Service was particularly poor, but this was mentioned to the manager who acknowledged, apologised, and compensated. Food was good, however we were 'crammed in' next to a table who were constantly getting up, moving about, taking phone calls, hence the atmosphere rating being lower than it would otherwise have been. I will probably come again, but hopefully the above issues wont be repeated.
Amazing food, drinks and service
A wonderful country pub with charm warmth and Uber friendliness not only that the food is Suberb it’s our go to for Sunday lunch such a lovely vibe thank you !
Great ambience, service & food.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the friendly attentive service. We are regulars and will continue to dine at the Bat & Ball.
Myself and my partner dined here on Valentine's day.. The food was great .. Adam is a great asset to this wonderful restaurant/pub...
