About JAMES ST BELFAST
James St. is the coming together of two of Belfast’s best restaurants, James Street South Restaurant and The Bar and Grill at James St.The new offering is the best of the Bar and Grill's menu with a few light touches to the fine cooking of James Street South.
Classic dishes are firmly established on the menu from the crab and chilli linguine, Dundrum crab used on toast, alongside classic bistro dishes such as farmhouse terrine, fruit de mer plates available from Thursday. The charcoal grill still plays centre stage, cooking not just some of the best steaks and prime cuts Northern Ireland has to offer but also fresh whole fish, pork and vegetables.
With a larger, more established bar area, a large range of wines are available alongside a considered spirit list and an extensive whisky offering. Locally produced beer, cider and gins take pride of place on the drinks menu.
Owned by Niall McKenna since 2003 the revamped James St. will offer locals and tourists a great dining experience in a Belfast city centre.
The restaurant team is headed up by Paul McGovern as Restaurant Manager.
We are located minutes walk away from the Europa Hotel, The Crown Bar and the City Hall.
We’ve been here previously and enjoyed it so we thought we would give it another go as it’s changed slightly, it’s become one restaurant out of two. I asked for a romantic table as it was my fiancées birthday and they didn’t disappoint. They had a great wee table in the corner and they remembered I had mentioned her birthday in the booking. It’s these wee touches that can make the visit. I’m always very attentive to service and absolutely hate paying for lacklustre or poor service, but the service was just impeccable. The gentleman who looked after us was so tentative, always ensuring we had everything we needed, at the same time having a bit of craic but in a professional manner. The food was to die for, the missus had halibut I had prawn pasta. Both dishes were so delicate and yet the flavours were bursting out, I love that combination. The prices were reasonable, no doubt you’ll get excellent value for what you pay for here. It’s definitely now one of our favourite restaurants in Belfast and we eat out quite a bit. It’s up there with the best, food drink, the entire experience was seriously enjoyable. Looking forward to returning soon!
Curtis and Yvonne were excellent
I wasn't at the dinner but feedback from colleagues has been very positive. Everyone enjoyed the evening and were happy with the menu choices and food.
we had an absolutely fabulous night out at James st. The second we walked in the door we were given a very warm and friendly welcome. The staff looked after us so well there was nothing they couldn’t do. They made great recommendations where we were unsure and were so lovely, helpful and polite which is something that makes a restaurant for me. The food was delicious, out of this world in taste, exceptionally presented with great portion size. The steak is some of the best I have tasted in the world. They have a great selection of wines, reasonably priced too. We had the tomahawk steak and our dog loved it too cause the kitchen kindly wrapped up our only left over the bone for us to take home. The only very slight negative thing I have to say are the tables are a little close together but don’t let this put you off. This is one of my new favourite restaurants in Belfast and I will certainly be recommending it to anyone visiting the city.
The waiter that night was absolutely amazing and gave 5* service. The food was excellent and everyone had a fantastic evening.
Always a great atmosphere. Great selection of wines and the usual incredible food, locally sourced too.
Very friendly staff are attentive in a lively atmosphere.Food and wines are superb. A very enjoyable occasion.
Very enjoyable evening. Food was fantastic and very attentive service.
Never fails to disappoint, Lunch menu of Pea risotto and Halibut were up to the usual high standards as was the wine selection. Service from Paul and his team were impeccable. Looking forward to a return visit for dinner in a few weeks.
A very special lunch . Everything was perfect.
I booked the private dining space as part of a work seminar. There were over 20 in our group. When we arrived there was a personalised sign indicating where we needed to go ensuring that from the moment we arrived our group felt special, our menus were also personalised. The room was really lovely, perfect lighting and a positive atmosphere. The staff couldn't do enough for us, the service was brilliant. Everyone loved the delicious food, not one person was disappointed. We went for the set pre-theatre menu and at £24.50 for 3 courses at an establishment like this is super value. Will certainly recommend to all my friends and colleagues. Thank you James St.
Fabulous Staff were so attentive and food great
My mum and I had a fantastic evening, everything was absolutely spot on, thank you xxx
Belinda, was fantatsic to work with when arranging my friend's hen party. She was very helpful & nothing I asked was ever too much! Thanks Belinda. All hens agreed - the meals at every course tasted delicious. Staff were very friendly & kindly gave us complementary truffles & fudge post-dessert! Lovely gesture - thanks. I highly recommend James St. South fixed price menu & look forward to returning! Ash x o
Great food and service but the atmosphere slightly noisy. Quite expensive for what it is.
Would highly recommend a visit the food was outstanding The staff really make the experience fantastic this was our second meal in a week and we will be back very soon Thank you for two great meals, atmosphere and friendly more than helpful staff
Excellent food. Loved the roast beef and deserts.
Nice food, bad service
We were a party of 4 from England and Australia and had heard excellent reports about 2 restaurants in Belfast, James St., and Mourne Seafood. James St was excellent and Mournes was at the opposite end of the scale. Everything about James St was representative of an operation where attention to detail was a priority. The ambience was lively, the service was prompt and well-informed and the food was of the highest quality. If only we had booked James St twice and abandoned Mournes!
Great food, good service. Would definitely go back if I was in Belfast.
