About JAMES ST.
James St. is the coming together of two of Belfast’s best restaurants, James Street South Restaurant and The Bar and Grill at James St.The new offering is the best of the Bar and Grill's menu with a few light touches to the fine cooking of James Street South.
Classic dishes are firmly established on the menu from the crab and chilli linguine, Dundrum crab used on toast, alongside classic bistro dishes such as farmhouse terrine, fruit de mer plates available from Thursday. The charcoal grill still plays centre stage, cooking not just some of the best steaks and prime cuts Northern Ireland has to offer but also fresh whole fish, pork and vegetables.
With a larger, more established bar area, a large range of wines are available alongside a considered spirit list and an extensive whisky offering. Locally produced beer, cider and gins take pride of place on the drinks menu.
Owned by Niall McKenna since 2003 the revamped James St. will offer locals and tourists a great dining experience in a Belfast city centre.
The restaurant team is headed up by Paul McGovern as Restaurant Manager and Monteiro Agostinho as Head Chef.
We are located minutes walk away from the Europa Hotel, The Crown Bar and the City Hall.
This was our second visit to James Street and the first since the move next door. The restaurant is a bit tighter but still really good. We hoped the tasting menu might still have been available but still really enjoyed our meal.
Great food and service in informal but pleasant well lit surroundings.
We had a brilliant evening - so well looked after by the fabulous staff. Food was amazing and the atmosphere relaxed. Would highly recommend.
Warm and welcoming a great venue for excellent food and fantastic service
The steak was charred on the outside and gristly.
As on every visit very friendly and efficient service, coupled with great food, ambience and lighting. Big thanks for the subtle handling of one the group’s need to have gluten-free options.
Excellent fillet steak cooked to perfection. .
Lovely food. Great atmosphere and service. Thanks for a lovely evening.
We had a very pleasant lunch recently at JSS. The food was excellent and the service good although the waiter in attendance needs to work on his manner. He was unfriendly, unwelcoming and forgot to smile. Maybe he was just having an off day!!
Top class food n great service from waitress
My family thoroughly enjoyed their birthday meal. We got discount off a dessert and a drink for our occasion, which was muchly appreciated. The staff were very attentive and the food was beautiful. I will definitely be back again.
Your music was a bit loud for me, and it seems somewhat distorted as well. I prefer it turned down a notch or two so that I can hear conversations better. Having said all that, I loved the food and the service.
We had such a lovely server on 16th April but forgot to get his name. He is originally from Lithuania and is so friendly and professional. The food was amazing and we are harsh critics. All except the crab on toast was lovely, as it was not as exquisite but maybe the secret lies in what one orders!
As usual a great lunch, food & service excellent
everything was great only was a little slow we sat for quite a while in btwn courses ...
Very accommodating staff. Not only were we late but our voucher was also out of date. Neither was a problem which was greatly appreciated.
I was totally disappointed with my experience in James St, what a difference from any experience I have had over the years in James Street South. The total dining experience was spoilt by the noise, loud and overbearing. The overall noise levels are a concern, I know that of course you expect chatter in a restaurant, but this was indeed something else. There was a party of six sitting right in front of us at the "bar" making so much noise and shouting to be heard over each other I could hardly hear what my daughter who was dining with me was saying, to be totally honest it was like dining in a bistro/American diner and spoilt our experience. At no stage did the manager approach them to quietly ask them to "keep it down", which showed total disregard for the rest of the paying customers trying to enjoy their food. The atmosphere sets the stage for any restaurant as well as factors such as lighting, space, artwork etc etc, and one other negative was the space between each table, uncomfortable is an understatement, we may as well have been dining with the people on either side of us. On the plus side the waitress who served us was fantastic, totally attentive and professional, I wish I had of got her name!, as for the front of house staff totally uninterested. The food was good.
Food really good. Wine very reasonably priced. Lighting in the restaurant was at one point too bright and then was flashing/buzzing which was distracting. Waiting staff worked very hard but service did not reflect price of food. Few errors and not particularly chatty, but they were working hard.
Amazing food and wonderful service. Our waitress Bronagh was lovely. Fantastic beer and cocktails - a lovely experience and we will definitely be back!
We had an excellent meal with very attentive staff.
Very good food and excellent staff
Excellent service, a bit on the expensive side but would recommend for the special occasions
The food was beautiful and perfect. Very friendly and professional staff. Thank you James st south
Starter was soup - seemed very watered down with little taste Main - Tomahawk steak was delicious but side of carrots and parsnips seemed under cooked Dessert - very good
