About JAMES ST.
James St. is the coming together of two of Belfast’s best restaurants, James Street South Restaurant and The Bar and Grill at James St.The new offering is the best of the Bar and Grill's menu with a few light touches to the fine cooking of James Street South.
Classic dishes are firmly established on the menu from the crab and chilli linguine, Dundrum crab used on toast, alongside classic bistro dishes such as farmhouse terrine, fruit de mer plates available from Thursday. The charcoal grill still plays centre stage, cooking not just some of the best steaks and prime cuts Northern Ireland has to offer but also fresh whole fish, pork and vegetables.
With a larger, more established bar area, a large range of wines are available alongside a considered spirit list and an extensive whisky offering. Locally produced beer, cider and gins take pride of place on the drinks menu.
Owned by Niall McKenna since 2003 the revamped James St. will offer locals and tourists a great dining experience in a Belfast city centre.
The restaurant team is headed up by Paul McGovern as Restaurant Manager and Monteiro Agostinho as Head Chef.
We are located minutes walk away from the Europa Hotel, The Crown Bar and the City Hall.
Service was friendly but very slow. Food was excellent
Our first visit to James st was brilliant the level of service and attention paid by all the staff was first class. Even the small things that we didn’t notice where not overlooked and the gratitude offered without even asking first class again would definatly recommend and will be back again and our server for the night was also a very friendly and attentive. Being in this type of business myself it is actually nice to be on the receiving end
Have to say that I had to remind the table staff more than once about our order not being complete. The veg order and our wine had to be re requested. The staff were all very pleasant, but it was like that they only half listening. The atmosphere was not to my taste, a little cold. There were other aspects as to the quality of the food. Quite disappointing for the price category.
A little loud, but otherwise great!!!
Best Steak in Belfast hands down, classy service and atmosphere.
Overall we quite enjoyed our dining experience but felt it was not as good as had been the case on our last few visits before the amalgamation. My husband's chicken was disappointingly dry while my bouillabaisse was really just pieces of fish with a sauce poured over, and one of those pieces was tepid. I was expected something more akin to a stew with more depth of flavour. However my daughter's duck ragout was excellent and her vegetarian friend enjoyed her aubergine based dish, though she felt it needed something extra and ordered some chips while eating. The bread at the start and the final coffees were excellent and I particularly enjoyed my soufflé. The staff were accommodating of our desire to stay at our table for a further 15 minutes before we left for the Ulster Hall and were willing to house a cello in a safe cupboard, so we appreciated their flexibility.
Stuart was extremely attentive and made our birthday night very special. We were delighted to get our every whim attended to. All the staff were extremely polite and friendly with a warm smile. Great experience all round.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The food was terrific especially the Dexter steaks. Staff are to be highly commended.
Staff were unbelievably helpful and accommodating! Food and wine were delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will certainly be back.
Paul made our day really special when I brought a friend for lunch, Thanks!
One of our party of 7 was served the wrong main course but this was rectified as soon as we mentioned it and full apologies were provided. The replacement meal was marginally undercooked and we were not charged for it. The other 6 main courses were excellent and we have rebooked for November. Service was excellent. As a group we would definitely recommend.
Amazing food and excellent service from the young waiter named Harry
Great night. Food and service of the highest quality.
I took a part of 10 here recently for a business dinner. The organisation and communication prior to the event was very professional and the food and service on the night were equally good. The new layout and bar are make fo a much more spacious interior without losing the intimate atmosphere. I would have no hesitation in recommending the “New” James Street South to anyone looking for an outstanding place to eat in central Belfast.
Great food . A bit bright perhaps when sitting under a spotlight . Could do with some work on the ambience . Food was superb though
My boyfriend and I dined here on the 10-10-18 for our anniversary. The staff were absolutely fantastic. We were greeted with a glass of prosecco for our anniversary and the girl who was on our table service was excellent. She knew the menu well and was able give us some advice on what to order. She continued to check on us throughout our meal which was great! The food was out of this world, the scallops and the steak were especially extraordinary, even the cocktails were faultless, we will definitely be back! Thank you for a fabulous evening for our anniversary !
Service and food as top notch as ever. Give me a table cloth and you are faultless.
We had a wonderful lunch at James St - both the food and service were excellent and we will definitely be back. Many thanks to all the staff
Lovely evening, great team. Food is fantastic, the burger lets the restaurant down.
